Our attention was on Anabella and her obvious breakdown, so neither I nor Damian decided to keep an eye on the half-burned man. But in our defence, we had not expected a half-burned man to try and run from us.

Especially not after being thrown into a burning car, not after screaming like his soul had been ripped out.

But despite the pain he was in, the half-burned man decided to gather himself and make a run for it.

I noticed it imdiately and tried to go after him. But Damian’s hand on my shoulder stopped .

"There is no point in going after that injured man. With injuries like his, he won’t be able to get very far. It will be even harder to avoid our eyes if he wants to seek dical help. We will catch him later."

Damian assured and I watched as the cloaked man ran away.

It still did not feel right for not to chase after him, but I also understood Damian’s point- we were both injured and tired. We needed dical attention as well and maybe part of simply felt safe obeying him after everything that happened.

Soon, the help I had called for arrived. They were much faster than I expected, especially considering that we were quite a long way out of the city.

"Boss, we are here with the support. Are you alright? We lost contact with Miss’s phone..."

A well-built blond man stepped out of the nice-looking car and imdiately ran toward us. Behind him were even more people as a small bunch gathered around us like a military rescue operation rather than a dical team.

Both police and dical assistants quickly gathered around us to check up on us. They also checked up on Anabella, but she was physically uninjured. Her ntal state, on the other hand... her eyes were glass, her reality shattered, and her mind was sowhere beyond saving.

"Boss, Miss, please follow us for now. We should allow the police to start their investigation."

The blond man spoke softly and I imdiately got the important information out to him.

"Anabella had an accomplice. He is a cloaked man, who should be half-burned. He ran toward the woods not too long ago to escape capture."

Damian nodded at my words and the blond man looked at the people behind him with a serious look on his face.

"You all know what to do. Hurry up and catch that man at all costs. Boss, would you like to go to a public hospital or a private one? I have not inford Madam yet, but I won’t be able to keep it from her."

The blond man told Damian. Irritation flashed across Damian’s face for a second and he opened his mouth to yell his irritation out. But then his eyes fell on and he cald down, almost as if anger was allowed for everyone else but never in front of .

He gave the blond man in front of him a considerably calr look this ti.

"Secretary Jason, tell that woman that I will et her and talk to her soon. She will stay in her lane if she knows what’s good for her own sake."

Damian sounded irritated as he told the secretary what he needed to do. The secretary flinched, not liking what he was hearing.

"B-But sir-"

"I am done listening to you. Take care of the clean up now. Jenna, we should head back now. We need you to get checked out by the hospital staff."

Damian’s arms shielded and dragged at the sa ti. They felt like a cage, making sure I did not look anywhere else. At the sa ti, they were warning currents to others to not try anything with .

The blond secretary gave a knowing look, but I could read the disapproval in his gaze.

It was a given that he and the people in Damian’s life did not approve of our relationship. Especially since all they knew was that we were engaged.

But I doubted that any of them knew the actual circumstances behind our engagent or that it was a scam.

Damian all but half-carried toward the dical staff around us. They quickly disinfected our wounds before deciding to transfer us to a hospital.

For our own safety and comfort, they decided to put us in different cars... but that sounded like an excuse. They likely wanted to separate us so that they could take advantage of this opportunity to intimidate .

Damian put his foot down as he pulled into his embrace and sat down in the car.

The dical staff, who had planned out who would get to go with Damian, looked crushed. I could even see the female nurses giving glares for monopolising Damian’s attention and then looking at the chief doctor, telling him to interfere.

The poor chief doctor, who was suddenly being bombarded with all these looks, quickly turned toward us with desperate eyes.

"S-Sir, I know that you do not want to be away from your fiancé, but sitting like that would be... not good for your wounds. Please allow your partner to-"

"Just shift the staff in the other car. Jenna will co with . If you have ti to talk, then you have ti to drive. Unless you do not value your jobs or your life."

The threat worked well and the temperature in the car dropped, authority replacing air itself.

Unlike the female nurses (and so male ones) who were interested in Damian, the chief doctor was old and only interested in getting paid. He was not going to risk his life for his staff’s amusent and ’likely’ chance.

So he turned toward the staff with a resolute look in his eyes.

"Boss has spoken. His driver and I will go ahead with him. You all can follow us back."

There were voices of protest but the doctor decided to make a quick escape along with us. Damian’s eyes did not even look at those desperate people, but I could not help but look at them as the windows rolled up.

They all looked at as if I had crushed any hope they had in their lives. They were getting too pressed about a guy who would never even give them his ti because in their heads he was a fantasy, but beside he was terrifyingly real.

"Don’t pay too much attention to those losers. They think they can ta just because I decided to pay them attention once. They are not worth your attention."
