Ogas often did this either when they were in heat or in distress over their mate, and Eve wasn’t in heat.
Had she...been worried for him?
His features softened, and every tinge of annoyance he had felt earlier slipped away from him as he padded toward the bed. He crawled in and towered above her, leaning in until he could bury his face in her neck.
His fingers ran through her hair before his cool palm trailed against her face causing a turn from Eve.
"Malakai...?" Her voice, sweet and soft, dripped into his ears and he pulled back to look at her face.
"Doll."
Her eyes opened just long enough to see his lips parted and two canines peeking out.
"Don’t panic. I’m fine. I was fine."
"Where were you? I waited and waited and you—"
"I had sothing to do," he said to her. "Your wolf’s in distress. Were you worried for ?"
Eve couldn’t reply, breathing out in puffs as his canines dug into her skin, scenting her. He rubbed his face against her shoulders, her neck, and then her face.
Was he soothing her?
Malakai pulled back to look at her face, a tint of red, but rather more relaxed than it’d been before. "How do you feel? Okay?"
She nodded. But asked, "Are you mad?"
He cocked a brow and tilted his head. "Mad? Why would I be mad?"
"I an, it’s my fault. I dragged you into all this and now you’re getting harassed over sothing that is not even your fault. I know you don’t like the public and—"
"Eve."
She swallowed the rest of her words.
"Sweet girl," he purred in her ear before his cool fingers rubbed under her eye. "I’m fine and I am not mad. Do you underestimate that much? A few reporters hassling isn’t enough to make angry. It was irritating, yes, but that was about it. Besides, it’s not as if I didn’t see it coming. So, calm down, alright? I’m okay, this is not too much for to handle."
"You’re not trying to be nice to , are you?" She asked, grimacing at the plaintive whine in her tone.
He growled a laugh.
"I got you sothing," he said. "Co with ."
Eve followed him off the bed and approached the mini table in front of the sofa. Her nose twitched. "I sll sothing."
"What do you sll?" He chuckled out.
"Sothing yummy."
The man’s smile stretched from ear to ear. "Food. I felt you would be hungry—"
"I am," she interjected. "What did you buy?"
Every trace of distress she held was completely gone.
"Spice noodles," Malakai responded as he squatted in front of her. He took out the takeaway, and rolled it up in a fork, bringing it to her lips. "Open your mouth."
"How did you know I liked that?" She asked as she chewed on it, closing her eyes as the flavor spread across her tongue.
"How does it taste? Good?"
"Yum!"
His curiosity softened into a delighted smile.

Malakai who’d slipped his gloved hands into his coat to leave for work paused at the sight of Eve who was fully to go out.
"Eve...?"
"I’m going to work with you," she said.
"With ? Why?"
She shrugged. "I could be of help, you know. I an, if I applied to work at your company, you’d definitely hire . Am I lying?"
"No." He shook his head. "I would hire you."
"So let go with you. You can even hire to work for you."
Malakai stared at her and slanted his head to the side. "Is that really why you want to go with ? And no, I won’t hire you to work for ."
"Why?"
"You’re pregnant."
"Then I can help you around in your office. How about that?"
"I suppose that’s okay." His fingers ca around her chin, his gaze suspicious. "But is that really why you want to co with ? To help around in my office."
Eve darted her eyes around the room. "Well...yes."
"Liar," he humd, smile twitching at the corner of his mouth.
They left the mansion and instead of his driver, Malakai decided to drive the both of them himself.
"There’ll be reporters," Eve said amidst the ride.
"No, not this early in the morning. They’ll wait till evening when I’m tired from work to get words out of ."
He turned the steering wheel and drove over to park at the parking lot right in front of his company.
Eve reached for her seatbelt and while she unbuckled it, Malakai opened the door, grabbing her hand and helping her out of the car. He weaved his fingers with hers and began and headed towards the entrance of his company, a skyscraper building, almost touching the sky itself.
"Good morning, Mr. Basti." The security bowed to him. "Good morning, Mrs. Basti."
Eve offered a smile and followed after Malakai who still didn’t let go of her even when they stepped into the building.
All eyes were on them just as she’d expected. Of course they knew she was his wife, but Malakai still went ahead to do an introduction.
"This is my wife, Eve Basti." He smiled at her. "Eve, my employees."
Every single one of them, from ogas to alphas, deeply bowed. "Good morning, Mrs. Basti. You’re welco to Vireon Holdings."
Her smile spread softly, but then it slightly faded, her brows wrinkling. There was a particular employee peering at her intently as if he knew her. From his lack of scent, she could tell he was a beta.
Did he know her?
She was sure she had never seen him before—if she did, she would have recognized him. Then who was he? What was that monitoring expression in his unfamiliar brown eyes?
"Eve!"
Snapping her out of her thoughts was the sound of her na vibrating from Malakai.
"What’s wrong?" The man asked.
She subconsciously shook her head. "N-nothing."
"It’s nothing."
