ZINA

The corridors of the North Wing of the arctic Castle which was the residence of the Luna Queen bustled with activities as servants carried out nurous items. From boxes of jewellery and clothes, to vintage mirrors and rare stones.

Zina announced her presence and then stepped into the room that reeked of dust. Bella was sprawled on the floor while staring into space, anwhile her daughter stood by the door side, looking lost as the servants went about their duties.

Zina’s heart ached as she stared at the four-year old girl with big clear eyes that looked so lost and confused. Bella did not seem to have taken notice of her presence nor her daughter’s, so Zina leaned down, bringing her height and that of the girl’s to the sa level.

"Suri." She whispered to the girl who broke into a smile on noticing her.

"Theta Zina." Suri said in response, still smiling even though her eyes looked so sad. Zina almost felt bad for partly being the cause of her current predicant. If Eldric were still Alpha King, then Suri would not be forced to experience all the hardships she would surely face from then onwards.

Zina quickly shook off the guilt because really, there was nothing to be guilty about. She had done the right even if her action was inadvertently hurting poor Suri.

"So it is true you can see," Suri whispered in her child-like voice, staring into Zina’s eyes like it were a thing of wonder. "Your eyes are truly beautiful without a blindfold on. But with a blindfold you also look beautiful in a different way."

Zina smiled. "Different? How so?"

Suri smiled too, "Different like the avenging gods I’ve read of in all those books." the girl finished, blushing.

Zina held her little fingers in hers because she didn’t know how to express the overwhelming sorrow that was squeezing her heart. She was breaking at the sight of Suri’s sadness, and yet the girl was able to maintain her pretence that everything was fine with her even though it was obvious to all that nothing was fine with Suri.

Born to a father who couldn’t pretend to be a good father and a mother who had always been chasing air even now, Suri could be called an orphan like Zina was in the WolfKnight’s Pack. For even though Zina had an adoptive mother and a whole pack that surrounded her everyday of her life, she was truly alone.

The sa could be said for Suri.

Lightly squeezing Suri’s little fingers, she spoke from her heart. "Do not be sad anymore, Suri."

The little girl’s lips wobbled as tears welled in her eyes. "I am not sad." She said in a little voice so low that Zina almost didn’t catch the words.

Zina smiled, "and you don’t have to act strong even now. It is okay to cry."

The tears fell like rain, straining Suri’s cheeks. "But if I cry, mother will be even more sad. I do not want mother to be sad anymore especially now that daddy is no longer around."

Anger flared in Zina’s chest on hearing the words, but she hid it away from the girl. "It is every mother’s duty to be sad, Suri. Every child has only one duty, and that is to be happy."

Suri, of course, said nothing in response. The young girl only glanced at her mother who still hadn’t noticed Zina’s presence with eyes filled with fear and sadness. Seeing the fear in the young girl’s eyes was truly heartbreaking, but Zina simply smiled regardless like everything was fine.

"From ti to ti, I will co and visit you at the BloodMoon Pack." Zina promised, while the girl’s face lit up with happiness.

"Really?!" She whisper-shouted. "You would?"

Zina nodded. "Of course I will. Now go and play at the common room while I speak with your mother."

The girl nodded, and then quickly dashed off while Zina walked deeper into the room until she was standing before Bella that still looked out of her mind.

"You’re a truly horrible mother." Zina said, her words jolting Bella out from her reverie. The woman’s expression turned sour on noticing Zina, but there was no fight in her eyes. If anything she looked depressed in fact.

"Are you here to show off that you’ve won this round?"

Zina scoffed at her shalessness. "This was never about and you, Bella."

"No, but this was about who would win Daemon’s heart and the right to stand by his side." Bella whispered in a low voice while she slowly stood until she was face to face with Zina. While she wore the dignified clothes of a queen, she looked distraught and her appearance had a shabbiness to it.

"Are you still on this after everything that has happened?!" Zina scread, "you’re Eldric’s wife and yet you do not stand by his side, instead you’re here dreaming the impossible and forbidden!"

Bella laughed like she found Zina’s shock over her behaviour truly hilarious. Her laughter turned into a cackle like she was towing the borders of insanity. "I really envy you, Theta Zina WolfKnight. How easy and straightforward your life is."

Zina stared in disbelief at the woman. Was she truly being serious? She thought that Zina had her life easy? The gods, she had never heard sothing even more ridiculous.

"It was for power was it not?" Zina said, circling the woman. "You’ve had a taste of it from Eldric and you’ve tasted the position of Luna Queen. You know more than anyone how sweet and bitter that position was so get yourself together and face your daughter."

Bella cackled hard again, tears rolling down her cheeks. "What if I want more from Daemon? Don’t you know that power is another form of love?"

Zina sighed. "I’ve simply co to bid you farewell and ask that you take your duties towards Suri more importantly."

Bella clenched her fists as if disgusted by Zina’s words like her duties were not supposed to be the most natural thing that a mother should hold dear. "Do not tell how to raise my daughter."

Zina stalked for the woman, her stare dripping with nace. "Believe when I say that if I hear for one more ti that harm has co upon Suri, then I will have the Alpha King take her away."

Bella busted into laughter again like Zina was being incredibly ridiculous. "He would never take her away." she said bitterly, and for so reasons Zina didn’t know yet of, Bella’s words held a double aning.

It almost sounded like Bella had proposed that Daemon take Suri, but he had refused.

"Did you ask Daemon to adopt Suri and he refused?" Zina asked suspiciously.

Bella grinned. "I did ask him, but only on the condition that he makes queen before he takes Suri."

Zina stared at the woman in horror.

"No one will ever take Suri away from as long as I am not Luna Queen. The BloodMoon’s will never stand for it." Bella finished in a dark voice.
