ZINA

Zina was just about to leave Falcon for her mission when sothing hard that was hurled at her smacked her cheeks.

Falcon dragged her behind him, shielding her from the onslaught of what seed to be eggs raining on Zina who stared wide-eyed at the culprit behind the assault. The Epsilon’s bared their claws, while Falcon was just one step away from fully shifting.

The person responsible, a haughty older woman wearing a horrible sneer, was flanked by her guards.

"Are you the slut whom my son died for?!" She scread at Zina, trying to walk over Falcon who narrowed her eyes at the woman.

Zina was confused, but Falcon didn’t seem to share the sa confusion for he took a nacing step forward to the older woman whose petite figure was in great contrast with Falcon’s towering height.

"Died?" He sneered at the woman like he found her very ridiculous. "Losing a hand doesn’t equate to death now does it?"

Zina gasped, staring at the woman with new eyes. Despite knowing what Daemon did on the night she had first gone into her heat, it was still hard to reconcile it with the reality that this woman was attacking because of said event.

"How dare you?!" The woman screeched at Falcon who looked braced for a good fight. His hostility also took Zina by surprise as she had never seen Falcon that angry.

"How dare I?" Falcon chuckled, "any who touches the Theta of the NorthSteed Pack deserves death, talkless of touching the woman of the Alpha King. You’re lucky he’s only lost a hand and not his head."

The woman screeched, the sound echoing off the walls of the castle and drawing attention to them. "An incapacitated werewolf is as good as dead! And yet you tell that I’m lucky?! How does the life of the nobody Theta who was appointed by the goodwill of the forr Alpha King trump the life of my son who is a blue blood of the North?!"

The words were like cold water being poured on Zina. Incensed, she stepped away from Falcon who was shielding her.

"Blue Blood?" She repeated with a voice laced with sarcasm now facing the old woman.

"Yes!" The woman scread, her deaning eyes taking Zina in as if she were an insect. "My son might be a second rank official while you’re a first rank official. But you’re a re maggot that crawled off the streets of the GreenLands, while my son is the prestigious descendant of the WolfStone Pack."

There had always been a reminder of Zina’s lowly origins. Despite the fact that she possessed power by virtue of her position as Theta and her ability to see visions, there was always that reminder that Zina was nothing more than a street urchin that crawled her way to power.

But being so harshly and publicly reminded of that fact was a bit embarrassing, but Zina swallowed the sha as the knowing stares of passersby and the gathering crowd about them grew.

Falcon looked like he was about to react to the woman with equally scathing words when a colder voice interrupted from behind them.

"The WolfStone Pack?" The question sounded more like an accusation

Zina whipped her head behind, and her eyes t black pits that swirled with all the knowledge of the world, and yet, still sohow managed to appear as bland as his expression was schooled. His face impassive, his eyes skipped Zina, resting squarely at the older woman.

"Since we are talking about prestige, might we then take a trip down mory lane?"

The woman’s eyes narrowed into snake-like slits, but she bowed nonetheless.

"Your Majesty." She greeted.

A greeting that Daemon ignored as he stood by Zina’s side, his emotionless eyes still on the woman.

"Do you rember the ti of the Great Purge?" He asked, although his question didn’t sound like he was expecting an answer.

The woman stiffened in response, her expression darkening like she had just heard a great blemish.

"Your.Majesty..." the woman gritted, the words a warning. Her body shook as if she was suddenly engulfed by a terrible tremor.

"Ahh. Elder Luna WolfStone seems to have forgotten. It so happens that I am peculiarly outstanding when it cos to history lessons, so I shall remind you."

"Alpha King!" The woman scread, her frustration out for all to see.

Zina was suddenly curious to hear what Daemon had to say.

"During the ti of the Great Purge," Daemon started, totally ignoring the woman’s objections, "your great grandfather by twenty tis was a common highway bandit who would rob the people by throwing stones at them to decapitate them. No wonder he later took on the na WolfStone while erecting the foundation of your dynasty with stolen money."

The woman’s sha out for all to see, all she could do was glare at Daemon while she stewed in her embarrassnt.

"You dare offend the WolfStone Pack all for this woman without a stronghold to back your reign?" The woman gritted, and Zina’s senses slamd back into her simultaneously.

This was the ti she was supposed to step forward and advise Daemon that this was not the right ti or place to be offending one of the biggest mid-ranked packs in the Arctic North, but Daemon was not even done with the woman yet.

"Last I checked, you’re simply a forr Luna who doesn’t know when to take a rest. Does your first son and the Alpha of WolfStone know that you’re here? Or does your daughter-in-law know that your second son lost his hand while he was busy groping another woman?"

Grope? Zina suddenly felt sick to her stomach. She was thankful that she had no mory of the event.

"When a lowly woman goes into Heat, it is only right for any Alpha to claim her!" The woman scread while Zina gasped. "What my son did was not wrong! She might be your fated mate as I’ve heard, but as long as you haven’t claid her, she’s for anyone to claim!"

Suddenly, every atom of pity Zina felt for the said Alpha that lost his hand was wiped away while she glared back at the woman in kind. So she was the type of woman that believed that won without title are tools in the hands of any man.

Tired of the conversation, and stung by the woman’s words that Daemon had not claid her yet, she stord away from the corridors of the Great Hall. Daemon said sothing in response, then Falcon said sothing too... but she was too gone in her head to hear what they were saying.
