I made a retching sound even though I tried my best to hold it in, and that was when I realized that I should probably leave before I beca sick in front of everyone while they were supposed to be enjoying a celebratory dinner.

"Mila," the prince called my na as he also stood up from his seat. I felt his arm around my waist as he tried his best to support . By that ti, it was probably too late for to fool the prince that there was nothing wrong with .

"I’m sorry," I managed to apologize in short before I had to cover my mouth with my hand.

"Call the doctor! Soone, call the doctor right now, Mila isn’t feeling well," Prince Leonard ordered one of the butlers who was standing nearby.

"Co with , Mila. Let’s take a rest over there first while we wait for the doctor to arrive," Prince Leonard said as he slowly began leading away. Duchess Flavia acted like the perfect companion by escorting as well.

"Please let help take care of her until the doctor arrives," the Duchess volunteered.

"Thank you very much," the prince said with a nod of his head.

It didn’t take long for the doctor to arrive, but by that ti, my symptoms had completely subsided. Perhaps it was because I had already distanced myself from the steak that was served. Regardless, I felt completely normal as if there hadn’t been anything wrong with in the very first place.

"I’m glad that you’re feeling better, but we should consult the doctor to find out the cause of this," the prince advised quite sternly.

"I’m feeling completely better now. I think it’s probably because I am far away from the sll of the steak," I replied with a shy smile.

"Has this ever happened before? Are you usually sensitive to the sll of at or beef?" the doctor asked patiently.

"I guess not. I feel like this is the first ti that this has happened," I replied after a mont of thought.

The doctor looked like he was about to say sothing, but the duchess beat him to it.

"Have you taken a pregnancy test?" Duchess Flavia asked with wide eyes, and I imdiately knew what she was thinking.

"Am I pregnant?" I stared at her in shock at the implication of her question.

Of course, it has been a while since I had taken a pregnancy test because it felt like there was no need to. Every ti the test ca back with a negative result, it felt like a part of was slowly dying inside from disappointnt and the pressure. On top of that, my irregular cycle had been so misleading in the past, and there wasn’t once that the test had returned positive after a delay in the arrival of my period.

"No, I haven’t taken a test in a while," I replied honestly.

"Well, I’m only asking because this symptom is quite similar to what I experienced when I beca pregnant with Florian. The things that used to taste fine started to taste horrible, and the things that used to sll fine suddenly beca so repugnant," she said.

"We cannot be sure if pregnancy is the cause for this. However, if we want to be on the safe side, it wouldn’t hurt for Lady Mila to take a pregnancy test," the doctor casually agreed with the duchess’s suggestion.

"Are you saying that there’s a possibility that Mila is pregnant?" Prince Leonard asked with a slightly confused expression on his face, as if he couldn’t quite believe it either.

"If you’re still feeling unwell, I can prescribe you so dicine. However, I think the best course of action right now is for you to rest," the doctor suggested.

"Thank you very much," the prince quickly thanked the doctor. After exchanging a few light farewell words, the doctor took his leave.

"Mila, I don’t want to get your hopes up for nothing, but it’s just as the doctor said. It wouldn’t hurt for you to get a pregnancy test. Do you have a pregnancy kit back at the palace?" the Duchess asked.

"Yes, I do," I replied softly. For soone who has been trying for so long to conceive, I felt like it was obvious to have pregnancy test kits on hand.

"That can wait till later. For now, I’ll take you back so that you can rest," the prince told before turning to offer polite words of farewell to the duchess. I smiled apologetically to Duchess Flavia before letting Prince Leonard lead out of the room.

...

"Am I pregnant?"

That was the only question that ran through my head on repeat as we made our way back to the prince’s palace. Surprisingly, Prince Leonard didn’t ask about my potential pregnancy. Instead, he spent most of his ti fawning over and overly worrying about my health. I wasn’t lying when I said that I felt perfectly normal after getting away from the dining table. My body had never reacted this way to the sll of food before, and nothing unusual was being served at dinner.

I recalled Duchess Flavia’s words as she described the early signs of her pregnancy, and I couldn’t help but feel slightly hopeful that perhaps there was a new life growing inside of . Although I knew that hoping could also lead to extrely painful disappointnt, I couldn’t stop myself from wishing that this might be the sign that I had been waiting for. With that thought in mind, I thought that I would rush into the bathroom to pee on a pregnancy stick right away when we arrived at the palace. However, when the ti ca, I found myself hesitating. It felt like I was repeating the sa scene that I had gone through many tis before. Sothing would trigger to believe that I might be pregnant, and then I would go into the bathroom excitedly with the hope that this ti I’m really pregnant. Then after this slight hassle of peeing on a pregnancy stick and waiting a short period for the results, I would find myself staring at the single line on the stick as an overwhelming sense of disappointnt threatened to eat alive from the inside out.
