Although I tried to fight it, I couldn’t stop the horrid mories that ca flooding back to as I recalled and relived the mont when I was put up for auction. I felt so uncomfortable that it took all of my willpower for to remain seated in my seat.
Just a little longer, Mila...
I told myself inside my mind as I tried my best to remain calm by taking in deep and slow breaths. I told myself that things had changed, and that the prince had saved . Things were not the sa as they were last ti, and that this auction had nothing to do with . I could feel everyone’s excitent as they waited for the next item to co up on stage to be auctioned off.
Every single item that was brought onto the stage seed rare and very valuable. At the signal given by the host that the bidding may comrce, many people put up their hands to raise the bidding price. I didn’t have enough knowledge of the arts, history, or anything related to the various items to appreciate their true worth. I was so panicked and nervous by that point that I could barely concentrate on what was going on up on the stage and nothing interested .
Prince Leonard sat quite calmly next to . The lights were quite dimd with the only light shining from the large stage in front of us. With the mask hiding his face, I couldn’t see the prince’s expression; however, I could sense that he wasn’t at all interested in all the items that had been put on auction so far. It felt like he was waiting for sothing that would catch his interest. An uneasy feeling ford in the pit of my stomach although I didn’t know what the prince was waiting for.
After a few paintings, a few sculptures were put on auction. After that, the the seed to shift from the arts to rare historical objects such as vases and small pieces of furniture. Suddenly, the the changed again when a skeleton of a rare animal was brought up onto the stage. Just looking at the dead remains of what must have been a very rare animal made cringe inside and I had to quickly look away.
“Are you bored?” the prince asked as if he could guess what I was feeling.
“Not really...” I replied softly.
It would have been rude of to tell him that I wasn’t just bored but I also felt uncomfortable. The only experience that I had related to an auction was when I was up for auction to be sold off as so kind of human slave. Needless to say, that wasn’t an experience that I wanted to rember or relive.
“This is really dragging on. It should be over soon. Just hang in there a little longer, Mila,” Prince Leonard said as he took my hand into his.
I was glad that it was dark and that I had a mask on so that he wouldn’t be able to see the distressed look on my face. It also ant that I didn’t need to bother faking a smile to reassure him. The prince’s thumb skimd along my knuckles as he began playing absentmindedly with my hand. All the while, I just prayed that ti would just speed by and that this event would co to an end. Since this might be sothing related to the prince’s job or a task that he had to do, I didn’t dare do anything that would distract him from his duties.
“Now we are finally moving on to the final session of this evening! This must be the highlight of the night for many of you here so without further delays, let us begin!” the host announced excitedly.
I had thought that the audiences were thrilled enough by the sections before, but their prior reactions felt like nothing compared to the thunderous applause and cheers that exploded all around . Whatever was about to be auctioned must be rare and very valuable. I no longer wondered or bothered guessing what else was going to be brought up onto the stage. Glancing over at the prince, I could tell that his eyes were now focused on the stage. On top of that, he was no longer playing leisurely with my hand as he held it.
Instead of the beautiful woman who regularly wheeled the items onto the stage, this ti four n dressed in smart looking suits perford the job. A large rectangular object covered entirely with black fabric was wheeled onto the center of the stage.
“Ladies and Gentlen! I proudly present to you the first item for this segnt. A young, beautiful, and innocent...virgin girl!” the host announced while shouting into the microphone that he held to his lips.
A...girl?
The words that had just been uttered by the host had not entirely sunk into my mind when one of the n swiftly pulled the black fabric covering the item on the large cart away to reveal the item that was now up for auction. I sat up straighter in my seat as I leaned forward while I tried to make sense of what I was seeing.
How can sothing like this be happening?
My eyes bulged out of their sockets as I strained to see clearly while my mouth dropped open in utter shock. In the large steel cage was a young girl. Suddenly, it felt like I was the one being chained like a helpless animal in the cage instead of her. My entire face felt numb as my lips quivered uncontrollably. My hands felt like they had turned to ice and everything else seed to fade away but the sight of the scared girl freaking out inside of the large cage.
“Let us start the bidding at a sweet price of zero. That’s right, we are starting this auction at nothing at all. Now, do I see a bid over there?” the host said with a chuckle.
