“You make it sound like you’re going to eat ,” I said with a small laugh of my own.
“I will...eventually...” the prince replied as his eyes captured mine.
I was only joking but his tone had turned so serious that I wasn’t sure how to react. Surely, the prince wouldn’t literally eat , right?
But then, he’s supposed to be a wolf. Do werewolves prey on humans like normal wolves in the wild when they hunt?
“I don’t think you should eat . I’m too skinny and I probably won’t taste good...” I said the first thing that ca to my mind.
The prince blue eyes widened in surprise before he threw his head back and laughed so loudly that he attracted the attention of everyone around us. I was so shocked at his reaction for a mont before I turned to quickly apologize to the other people around us for the disturbing loudness of the prince’s laughter.
“Sotis I don’t know whether you’re being serious or if you’re just joking,” he said when he finally managed to control himself again.
“I can say the sa about you...” I retorted in a mutter.
“I can hear you. You know that, right?” he asked before he grinned at .
“Yes, I know that, Your Highness,” I mumbled.
“It’s Leo...” he reminded with a slightly scornful look on his face.
“Right...” I murmured softly.
“Finish up your juice while I get the bill. Let’s get out of here,” he instructed as he raised his hand to catch the attention of a nearby waitress.
“Ok...” I replied obediently.
As I watched Prince Leonard pay for our al, I wondered where he was going to take next. It didn’t occur to until we were on our way back to his car that I didn’t want to return to the palace just yet. Instead of thinking that he would just take back, I had already started looking forward to seeing even more of the city with him.
“Where are we going?” I asked while daring to hope that there was another destination awaiting us that wasn’t the palace.
“You’ll see soon. It’s a surprise. We should hurry or we might miss it...” he said while checking his watch.
“Ok...” I replied softly.
...
“Is this place so different from where you’re from?” the prince asked.
He probably caught just staring at the night scenery of the city that was passing by from the car’s window. I had never seen a city decorated with so many lights before and everything just looked so magical and lively. The lights from the buildings and shops that lined the side of the road flew by as we continued speeding down the road.
“I’m not sure. I think there are big cities just like this in the country that I’m from, but I’m just not used to seeing them because I lived in a small town that is quite far from the closest large city,” I replied after I turned to smile at the prince.
“Is that so? Do you like the city better?” he asked with interest.
“I’m not sure. I’ve only just seen it a few tis...” I replied honestly.
“What was it like where you ca from?” he asked.
“Peaceful and quiet. People are kind and very helpful. The town is small, so most people knew each other. I grew up in a small orphanage for girls and because of all the work, I didn’t get the chance to go out often...” I told him what I thought was a pretty good summary of the place where I ca from.
That place used to be my ho until quite recently. At least, I thought that that place was my ho. However, I wasn’t so sure about that anymore. We were all told that we would get respectable jobs sowhere. While the job that I had didn’t seem so bad at all, I wasn’t sure if the other girls t the sa fate as I did. If the other girls were sold as well or in a similar manner to what I went through, then their lives and their fates would solely depend on the person that bought them.
It had been a while since I last thought of the orphanage and the other girls there. It had also been a while since I wondered about what would happen to them or the girls that left the orphanage before . If they were sold, then they may be beaten or forced into cruel forms of slavery. I didn’t dare let my imagination run wild in that dark and desolate direction.
“I’m glad that you bought ...” I whispered before I could stop myself.
I bit hard on my lower lip when I realized that I had whispered my thought out loud. Undoubtedly, Prince Leonard heard every word that I had just said.
“Is that so?” he asked just as the car ca to a stop at a redlight.
“Yes...I guess it could have been much worse for ,” I replied honestly now that I knew that there was no point avoiding it.
“Well, I guess I’m not such a bad person,” he said with a light laugh.
I was sure that the prince wasn’t a bad person. However, that didn’t an that I understood him or what he wanted. To , he was still a big and ssy mystery that I had failed to unravel and figure out.
“I guess...” I murmured.
“You don’t sound confident at all when you say that...” he pointed out while pretending to be disappointed.
I never thought that the man who bought would turn out to be a prince or a werewolf either. It was still hard for to believe; however, seeing so many of his lively expressions made think that maybe he was just as human as I was.
“The light has turned green,” I pointed out.
“You’re right...” he said but he did not look away from my face.
“Prince Leonard...” I called his na softly.
If he didn’t drive the car forward now, the other cars behind us will be stuck here as well and the light could turn red again at any ti.
