Kurtis POV
I had lied to Selene about seeing the moon goddess and maybe about so part of the conversation.
Was this a cross for her to bear? To take her husband’s place and to what end? To end generations of curses? I was so lost in thought that I didn’t hear soone co into my room until they tapped .
On the defensive, I turned ready to strike a blow when I saw Lucius and Xavier staring at strangely. Xavier arched his brow at while Lucius regarded quietly. I wondered if he still hated or if he was ready to speak to now.
"Relax, Kurtis," Xavier scoffed dropping on the couch in my room "And congratulations on your reinstatent as Alpha. What are you going to call your pack? I’m surprised you’re not celebrating as much as I would have imagined you would be doing. Why? What’s wrong?"
"How about you?" I retorted with a scoff "You were reinstated as Regional Coalition Leader. Finally, you can now get Jared off your back but you look like you’ve just seen a ghost. Why? What’s up?"
"It’s Selene!" he voiced out, his eyes lost in thoughts "She’s hiding sothing from . Today when we were speaking, she kept talking in rhetoric, hinting about not being here and making everything easy for Noah and she’s still going to make him the girls guardian. No amount of begging from changed her mind,".
"Good for her!" I chuckled and turned, hoping they had not seen the way I had reacted when he talked about Selene hiding things from him. "You can be their father when they’re grown,".
"Not you too, Kurtis!" Sebastian sighed "I wonder if she asked both of you if I could be a competent father and you said No. I need to be with my children. I can’t stand them being far away from and then calling Noah, father when I can easily do everything he does,".
"Maybe you should concentrate on a character reform rather than forcing her to make you, their father. Don’t be so pathetic," Lucius said quietly. "I hope you change this ti around,".
"I can’t deal with both of you!" Sebastian hissed and strolled out of the room leaving alone with Lucius.
When he left, silence reigned in the room as both of us avoided each other gaze. Clearing my throat, I walked up to him but as soon as I got close, Lucius took a step backwards and stared at suspiciously.
"We have to talk about it, Lucius... you can’t keep running away from things like that. That night...".
"I know exactly what happened that night, Kurtis," he cut short "And I don’t need you to explain it to or anything. Just let it be. I told you; it was all a mistake and nothing more Can you not see it? It will never happen again. So, there’s nothing to talk about. By the way, what are you hiding?"
I sighed moving to my forr position "Nothing!" I said turning my back at him. "I have a lot of things to work on, can we continue this conversation another ti,".
"I knew that’s what you’d say. It’s not so difficult to figure you out, Kurtis. You always do this. Walk away from a conversation,".
"And you think you can school about that?" I turned with an amused smile on my face. "You are worse than I am, Lucius. You cannot stand there and judge when you’ve done nothing but ghosted for nearly three months. You won’t return my calls or my texts and...".
"Can’t you just move past what happened?" he huffed, interrupting again "I don’t know if you’re in so illusion that there’ll be a continuation or perhaps an illusion that we can ever ..." he trailed off "Snap out of that dream, Kurtis. Don’t be a weak man... I’ll co find you later and then you’ll tell what you’re hiding," he huffed and started for the door.
"It’s about Selene!" I spoke. He stopped in his tracks and turned to , tracing back to where I was. "There’s no need for you to go and co back again because when you walk through that door, then it’s over, Lucius. There’ll be no going back... there’ll be nothing to retract or talk about. We’ll go back to what we were and who we were, agreed?"
I waited, hoping and praying silently that he would change his mind, but he shrugged and nodded after a few minutes.
"Fine! Now what about Selene...".
I took a deep breath and scoffed. "She’s going to die and there’s nothing you or or anyone can do about it because she’s been fated to do so in the past 5 years. When she left Greyhound to escape from Xavier and broke the rule of their fate, she wasn’t supposed to do that, so she was supposed to have died that ti,".
"I don’t understand," Lucius stared at with disbelief "After all these years. Why now? Isn’t it too late? Like they’re already thriving and living why would the moon goddess co now of all tis? Does it even make sense?"
"Because the world follows a natural order. If their deaths do not happen then there’ll forever be an unbalance no matter how much they try to run away, they won’t escape their fate but this would bring it to an end. The fate of the ’Dark Moon’ will finally stop with Selene’s death,".
"And who told you all of these?" Lucius questioned "Did you tell Noah or anyone? Information like this should be heard by us alone. We need to stop her, Selene cannot die. Do you know what will be at stake? And then I’ll have to deal with Xavier all over again or sothing worse could happen? I cannot bear to go through that again. I don’t want to live that life. I’m sorry but... we have to stop her.
"You cannot stop what’s fated, Lucius," a sad smile crept up my face. "You can delay it, yes but you cannot stop and this ti, she’s willing to do it... and she has a good cause too. Let it go!" I pleaded blocking his path "I promised her that I wouldn’t tell anyone. If you go to her now, then everyone will find out,".
"You shouldn’t have ntioned it in the first place then!" he said coldly "Get out!"
"Lucius, take a mont to think about what you’re trying to do. Please!"
"I said GET OUT!!!" he yelled and pushed to the side and ran out of the room.
I should never have told him.... I knew that now.
