Selene POV
I laid in between the girls watching them sleep with a crooked, sad smile on my face. I couldn’t believe that I’d not be here to watch them grow and the little pup in my stomach too.
I rubbed at my stomach gently, a puzzled smile on my face. All my life, I’ve worked so hard to run away from every reminder of my past life but to think that I cannot get away from it, that it was destined to be... that it was my ’Fate’ and not sothing I can escape. Everything, I’ve ever worked for, ever believed in was a joke.
Sighing, I pushed myself to the edge of the bed gently and rose to my feet, turning to look at my sleeping children, I sighed one last ti. I will give up now. There was nothing I could do anyway. These few months, I would take care of them the best way I can and show them what it ans to be loved.
And the first step would be shutting down the Office of the Luna.
Given the workload I get every day, plus the new baby on the way, it was best I shut down everything now. That way, I’ll be able to channel my energy into sothing productive. As I left their room, I t Noah in the hallway, leaning against the wall, his eyes were closed and his face was filled with exhaustion.
In a few minutes, I reached him "Noah!" my eyes widened with concern "Are you alright?" I asked, "Do you need anything?"
"Selene," His eyes fluttered open "I’m fine. I just figured that you needed alone ti with the girls, I wanted to wait for you out here. How are they doing?"
"They’re asleep," I smiled "Next ti, don’t stand in the hallway waiting, if I had known that you were here, I would have left a while ago. Did sothing happen by the way?"
"Not really, there’s sothing we need to go check out," he replied staring at his wristwatch. "There’s still ti, let’s go!" he reached for my hands gently and wanted to steer towards the staircase when I stopped him.
"Shouldn’t you be resting Noah? You look like you could drop dead any ti now?"
"I won’t die today, Selene!" he chuckled "C’mon, let’s go. We don’t have all the ti in the world,".
Sighing, I allow him to lead outside the pack house towards a waiting car in front of the house. We drove for a few minutes towards the lower towns of the pack house and almost when I thought we’d never reach, we arrived at a small clinic. Reid ran out imdiately, he was disguised as an ordinary person, different from what I was used to seeing him.
If I didn’t know him so well, I wouldn’t have recognized him in the beginning.
"Your Majesty!" he greeted both of us in a flash and straightened "The doctor was able to delay her but she was getting impatient. It’s a good thing you showed up now!"
"Good!" Noah nodded "Take us to her imdiately," he said.
Reid nodded and asked us to follow him. While we weaved through the semi-dark hallway with Noah’s hand firmly clasping mine, I leaned towards him. "Who are we going to et? Soone I know?" I asked.
"Yeah, soone you know!" he nodded, "You’ll et her shortly,".
As if on cue, the darkened hallways ended into another brightened hallway. We took the left turn and continued to the second room. Reid rapped on the door and a frilly, middle-aged man opened the door. Reid went in before us, followed by and Noah. As we stepped in, I spotted Brooke at one side of the room, eyes fixed on her phone. She didn’t bother to look up to know who entered.
"Brooke!" Noah said imdiately startling her so that she nearly dropped her phone. She sprang to her feet, her eyes wide with surprise. We were the last people she was expecting to see.
"N-Noah!" she stuttered "You’re awake?"
"What are you doing here, Brooke?" Noah ignored her question "But firstly, why did you lie about being pregnant? Why did you lie against my Luna? Is there anything that I haven’t done for you since you returned?"
"I’m sorry, Noah!" her eyes misted with tears "In the beginning I was going to tell you the truth about my baby but then I couldn’t just stop. I wanted to an so much to you just like she did and maybe even carry your child, just like the first ti,".
"First ti?" My brows shot up as I turned to Noah for an explanation.
"I got pregnant while we were dating and he asked to abort the baby. He was going to be stripped of his title if the people knew he got pregnant before his coronation. I had no other choice but to do as he requested," Brooke replied
"I didn’t ask you to abort the child, Brooke," Noah continued calmly "I asked you to keep it a secret until after my coronation but you wanted to manipulate into a wedding which I refused. Besides, was that child really mine? I an you were sleeping with and five other n and from the calculations made and how old the child was back then, it couldn’t have been ,".
She looked so crest-fallen at the revelation, unable to say a word. Noah continued regardless.
"There was a ti I loved you, Brooke... and I did with all my heart. I didn’t deserve everything you did to , how did you hurt ? How you woke up one day and decided to move away claiming you needed space when you went to be with another man and I don’t regret so many things in my life but I regretted that one ti I had to be with you as you ca back. I regretted breaking my wife’s trust on a whim of old desire but I’m also lucky that she gave another chance to fix it. So, this is what we’ll do!"
"Wait!" I stopped Noah "You slept with her just once?"
"Yes!" he nodded "She exaggerated the other tis. She would stay in my room so late and leave when the pack house is quiet, selling the impression that we were constantly together. Anyways!" he turned to face Brooke "I had soone pack your things and there’s a ticket to leave Moon Whisper. That’s the only thing I can do for you for old tis’ sake and I am not capable of hurting anyone. So, leave and never return. It doesn’t matter if sothing is so urgent... the day you do... you’ll be captured from the Airport and thrown into jail forever,".
"Noah!" her eyes glistened with unshed tears "You cannot do that to . Moon Whisper is my life... my family is here... my parents, my siblings...".
"Yes, I can," Noah said without flinching "But if you’d rather not take my offer, you could stay back and I’ll make sure you’re punished for what you did. You would be charged for multiple things including treason and if you do not take the offer now, then this is the last act of goodwill I can do for you,".
"This is not fair!" she cried "At least let say goodbye to my friends. I deserve that much!"
"If you do not leave here to the Airport, then, I’m going to assu that you want to be charged. I don’t mind that too, don’t worry. It’s your choice!"
She burst into tears, sobbing as she stared at Noah who stared back at her without emotions. He turned to the doctor who was quiet the entire ti. "I’m going to forgive you for coming clean about helping her the first ti and since you say you didn’t know what she wanted to do with the fake results. But if you’re caught next ti, I won’t show rcy,".
"Thank you, Your Majesty," the man sprawled to the ground.
Reaching for my hand, Noah steered towards the door as we left the room with Brooke still sobbing loudly and calling his na. When we returned to the car, I cast him a worried glance. "Are you alright?"
"I’m going to be!" he sighed "Do you think I was too harsh back there? Knowing who she is, she probably is faking that cry too. She’s always like that!" he sighed.
"I don’t think she faked those tears too," I replied "But it had to be done right?"
"Yeah!" he nodded and reached for my hands "I want to spend the rest of what life I have with you. I don’t know how much longer I have left but this is just trying to make things right. I just hope to God that I am doing a great job,".
"You are!" I smiled resting my head on his shoulders "And you will live a full, long life, Noah... I’ll make sure of it. I also know you’ll make the best father to our girls and hopefully our son. Do you have any preference?" I asked looking up to stare at him.
"None!" he bead at "As long as you’ll be the mother, I am fine with any of the sexes and if she’s a girl, she’s going to be my heir. Maybe, it’s ti we give won the chance to rule. You’ve proven that won have a knack for this thing too!".
