Selene POV
I stared at my form in the full-length mirror in my office trying to make sense of what Kragen said. I hadn’t noticed anything different about . My palate wasn’t strange, I didn’t feel weak or funny. He must be wrong; besides, I’ve been careful.
There was a knock on my door making twirl around quickly, if soone should see obsessing over myself in front of the mirror, they might give them ideas and the last thing I wanted was that. The door gave way and the leader from the Won’s group peeked into the office.
"Your Majesty," she bowed slightly "May I co in?"
"Sure thing!" I nodded with a pleasant smile "Please co in. I wasn’t expecting you until later today. Did sothing happen that you needed my attention?"
"Not really, Luna," she sighed and started playing with her fingers, her gaze downwards "I just ca to thank you for everything," When she looked up, I noticed she had tears in her eyes.
"Okay!" I chuckled awkwardly "Try to calm down. Thank for what exactly?"
"They’re finally going to start working in the lower parts of the town. We had a lot of engineers co around today and they asked the n leader which side of the land he would love a school to be built. They’re going to renovate the houses, hospitals, recreational centres, our markets..." she paused "Everything, Luna... thank you so much and the Grand Lycan and Lycan King were there too. They spoke to us and apologized for not taking better care of us,".
"Really?" my eyes widened with surprise "That’s good news and I am more surprised than you are. The Alpha didn’t ntion anything to , I guess he wanted to surprise too. Anyway, I’m so glad that everything worked out in the end. I am amazed by the speed with which the Alpha responded and I’m so proud of every one of you that worked and made this possible,".
"Yes!" she nodded "When there’s developnt, it ans there’ll be jobs. As Ogas, the only things we ever dream of becoming are maids and servants but the Alpha told us that everyone in the community who is qualified will have a chance to be employed in all the infrastructures set in and he didn’t promise that in the future he will make us equal but he promised that we will have fair presentation in all levels of the Pack Governnt,".
"Exactly what I told you," I smiled "You shouldn’t change who you are to fit in. We’re all different; Lycans, Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas, Ogas, and Rogues... we shouldn’t try to be who we are not because we’re all special. So, it ans you’ll not be taking up the job I offered you?"
"I’m sorry, Luna," she shook her head sadly "To serve my people has always been my dream. Can I be selfish and choose them. I know we agreed,".
"That’s fine!" I chuckled "And you shouldn’t be sorry either. I’m going to miss you by the way. Although it’ll be hard to find a replacent for you we’ll get there eventually. Try to visit and don’t hesitate whenever there’s a problem. I’ll co to your aid right away. Okay?"
"Yes, Luna," she smiled through her tears. "Thank you and Luna..." she swallowed hard "It’s not in my position to say this and it’s not like I’m trying to advise you or sothing but it’s about your mate... the Lycan King," she paused "He’s a good man and I may not have lived or spent a lot of ti with him but before I t you and of course that hideous dress you wore the first night you ca to our eting and the fake identity, I thought everybody in the pack house was plain evil and we were going to rebel but you made us understand that not every king is the sa...".
"The Lycan King... he’s a good man. He’s flawed yes but he’s not a womanizer too. I know one when I see one. He doesn’t look at a woman... he just looks over her head and doesn’t check her out either. Ogas are built more rounded and curvier and I saw all the young girls ogling and throwing themselves at him today but he didn’t notice,".
"He’s a King, he needs to behave properly in front of his subjects. That doesn’t an he would be able to say no when he’s alone," I retorted.
"He won’t create that opportunity," she shook her head. "Can you forgive him?"
"Forgive him?" I chuckled "I’ve done that a long ti ago. That’s the only reason I am still married to him. I didn’t forgive my first mate... so he’s lucky,".
"No Luna," she shook her head "You haven’t forgiven him yet. A small part of him still hates that he picked her over you and that’s why you did what you did the other day. It’s not entirely bad but if you must have a good marriage, you need to work hard. n are so clueless about a lot of things and Brooke is not worth it. Forgive your mate but don’t make him feel like you haven’t. It’ll make him anxious and force things. Eventually, he’ll break down and go right back to the arms of the woman he cheated with...".
Tears gathered at the corner of my eyes as the mory of Xavier with Belinda and Noah with Brooke flashed through my mind’s eyes. "Has this ever happened to you? You know when I first found out my first mate was with another woman, I felt so powerless and incomplete and I stayed until I could no longer stay only to have Noah do the sa to . It’s so unfair,".
"Yeah!" she nodded "It’s unfair and I have been a victim. It took years to heal properly but our marriage had gone beyond repair because I couldn’t communicate. I was so hurt and shut him off. These days, we’re making efforts to get back on track and it’s the hardest thing ever but we will get there or not. I suggest you talk to the Lycan King and tell him how you feel,".
"We’ve had that conversation a lot of tis," I sighed "One more ti and I’ll be seen as a nag,".
"Trust , you have to be real this ti around. Tell him everything and how it made you feel and what he can do to reassure you that he still loves you the way you do him and stop fighting the mistress. When you go after the mistress, you turn the heart of your husband away from you and practically push him into her hands. Treat her like the invisible person she should be. Never make an issue with them being together. You must learn to control your feelings, Luna. You’re an open book,".
"Shit!" I burst out laughing and crying at the sa ti "To think I almost lost my crown because I cannot control my emotions. I try... every ti but it doesn’t just want to be controlled and I heard that’s the power of a Luna,".
"Yes!" she nodded "And my na is Annabeth, Your Majesty. Anyways, it’s easy to control what you feel about people at every ti. If soone cos to confront you... place yourself high above the person. Remind yourself that you’re the Luna and around her, you give the instructions and the orders. No matter what, do not think about what the person is saying at that mont. You could think of your kids... or any happy thing. Do it more than once... you’ll stop letting people affect you,".
"Okay, that sounds easy," I nodded "Thank you so much Annabeth, I really appreciate and I look forward to your reports,".
"Sure thing, Luan," she rose to her feet "That I need to get going. There’s a lot to do today. Talk to you soon, Luna,".
I gave her one final smile until she left the office. I sat back on my chair, taking in a deep breath, trying to rember everything she told . My mind flitted to Xavier and the girls who weren’t picking up their calls, even Lucius wasn’t returning any of my calls. Kragen had promised to go check it out.
Another knock sounded on my door making snap out of my reverie. The door opened to reveal Brooke. She had a pleasant smile on her face. "Good afternoon, Luna," she started "I noticed you weren’t at the event at the lower towns this afternoon but don’t worry, I made a comprehensive report of everything that happened,".
"Splendid, Brooke!" I nodded and stretched my hand for the report "Can I have it?"
Without hesitating, she handed the report and I pretended to look through it. Noticing she was still in my office. I looked up.
"Is there anything else?" I asked.
"Yes, Luna," she nodded "I was wondering where my office would be,".
"Uh...about that... I’m not sure there’s an extra office on this block for you. Whoever designed Luna’s office didn’t include the Beta but do you know what, I noticed there are a few empty offices at the King’s office block... I think there’s one adjacent to his office. Why don’t you ask him and see if he’d be willing to let you stay there? If so then we’ll set you up there,".
"Really?" her eyes widened with pleasure "That’d be wonderful," she nodded
"Nice, also, go get dressed, we’re going sowhere now,".
"Like right now? Where Luna?"
A short knock sounded on the door again. "Luna, it’s ,".
"Co right in doctor," I responded.
Imdiately, Brooke’s body tensed. "Luna, I’ll just go and change into presentable clothes and et you back here," she said.
"That won’t be necessary," I said "We were supposed to go see her but she ca here already. So, just hang in a bit here. She’s a fertility doctor and would run tests on us both to know if we’re pregnant. I’ve been feeling queasy these days,".
