Xavier POV

I think families with powers do the dirtiest of deeds.

Growing up as a child with special health conditions, I’ve seen my parents go beyond every definition of humanity to make sure I am well. Regardless of who was involved or to whose detrint I would be. The entitlent which we always felt when we took away the joy from people was sothing that I will never be able to understand.

I used to feel bad back then but my mom would always console with the words "You’re the heir to the throne, your life is more important than the lives of everyone in the pack,". At a point, I had grown with that mantra but in the early days that I t and married Selene, I realized that my life was as fickle as a candle’s glow and that I had to depend on soone every day of my life to get through anything.

I relearned afresh and tried to do good to the people but they wouldn’t trust and who could bla them? Slowly, I earned their trust, stopped my parents from doing a lot of things that would damage the lives of the people and sohow, I allowed myself to believe the worst was behind them.

That sohow, they had at last co into the light and were changed persons. Even though Selene’s parents’ deaths had happened in the past, it was my mother’s confessions devoid of remorse that got to the most and seared my heart with hatred towards her. I will never be able to look Selene in the eyes again.

I didn’t even realize where my feet were taking until I found myself standing before Selene’s door, my chest heaving. I stood there for a while standing at the door, wondering why I had co here in the first place.

My dad was right... I cannot tell Selene the truth about her parents’ death. Our lives so far have been moving smoothly; almost too good to be true and yet... I knew this was a burden I could not shoulder alone. Whatever ca of it, Selene deserves to know the painful truth about her parents since sooner or later the truth will co to light. No matter how excruciating the pain would be, she had to understand what my family had deprived her of and, in a way, I wanted to exonerate myself from the ss. I want to be in my daughters’ lives for as long as possible.

Swallowing the lump that had ford at the back of my throat, I reached for the knocker on the door and rapped. It felt like an eternity before I heard footsteps coming to the door, piquing my anxiety. The door finally creaked open to reveal Selene.

Her hair was tousled and the robe she had on seed to have been thrown on as a last-minute resort. I felt my heart lurch with a fierce protectiveness that I could barely contain. She arched a brow towards , which flattened into mild exasperation.

"Let guess," she sighed brushing a few errant strands of hair from her face. "You’re here to berate as well over what happened with your grandfather?"

"Fuck!" she murmured under her breath shifting her weight from one foot to another "Listen, I know he’s the Grand Lycan and I wasn’t supposed to do that. Believe it or not, I regret my actions and I’m honestly sorry for everything. It’s all in the past now and I’ll apologize to him as soon as I get the chance and...".

In three short strides, I crossed the distance between us and enveloped her in a bone-crushing embrace. She gasped slightly at the suddenness of everything but I could feel the tension on her shoulders slowly sipping away.

I squeezed my eyes shut, burying my face into the fragrant warmth of her hair as I tried not to bawl like a child. But the images of Selene crying for days nonstop when the news of her parents reached us, not allowing her to co with us for the final burial rites and the smirk on my mom’s lips as she had confessed flashed in my mind’s eyes.

"I’m so sorry, Selene," I whispered shakily "You deserved to know the truth about them, about everything, so much sooner than this..."

I trailed off as a broken sound – sothing between a sob and a groan escaped my throat. I tightened my arms around her slender fra wishing I could take away the pain she would feel when I finally confessed.

"I should have seen... should never have allowed myself to be so blind. I’m sorry, Selene...".

"You’re choking , Xavier," she sighed "And if this is about, Belinda, I thought we have moved past it already. I have co to terms that n will always cheat. Don’t worry about it okay,".

"You don’t understand," I stressed with my face still buried in the crook of her neckline. "There’s sothing I need to confess to you and I don’t know how...".

A pointed clearing of throat snapped my awareness back to my imdiate surroundings. I let go of Selene only to find Noah looming in the hallways, with a servant behind him holding a tray that had a bottle of wine and two glasses. His eyes flicked between and Selene, stopping to linger on my hands still joined with Selene’s which I quickly withdrew and took a step away from her.

"Your Majesty!" I murmured bowing my heart slightly.

"May I ask what you are doing with my wife, Xavier?" he asked, his voice carefully asured and devoid of accusation. "Or should I instead be more concerned by her obvious distress at your presence?"

"Your Majesty, it is not what it seems, I was simply overwheld with emotions and...".

"Overwheld with emotions?" he scoffed "Haven’t you done enough already? Or do you want to fuck my wife before you get satisfied?"

"Noah, please!" Selene cried out "He just showed up and hugged , there was no way I could have pushed him away but if you had looked closely, you would see that I wasn’t returning the hug,".

He didn’t say anything. After staring at us for a few seconds, he turned to the servant behind him. "Drop the tray inside Luna’s room and go fetch another glass for Alpha Xavier,".

The servant nodded and sprinted lightly into Selene’s room. In a few seconds, he was out. Noah brushed past us, taking Selene with him as he entered into her room but I refused to enter with them. Suddenly, he turned and saw I wasn’t following.

"Co along, Xavier," he huffed "I was going to see you today anyways. Now that I see you, let’s talk,".

"I don’t want to interrupt anything, your majesty," I shook my head "Maybe I can co find you later?"

"You dare refuse your King a favour?" he chuckled dryly as he stared pointedly at .

Unable to do anything else, I entered the room and took my position on the empty chair at the sitting area of Selene’s room. Almost on cue, the servant who went to fetch the extra glass ca back with it. We waited until he was gone before I rose to my feet to pour the wine. As I did, I could feel Noah’s eyes on .

It was a calculative look. Even though his eyes were blank, I braced myself for the worst. When I was done pouring the drink, Noah took his glass and downed everything in one go. When I made to refill his glass, he shook his head in refusal and then waited for to settle down before he started speaking.

"I was told you wanted to see regarding the decisions I made at the eting the other day. Before I let you speak, just know that I will not reinstate Kurtis as an Alpha. He has to prove himself to and to the throne,".

"I am not here to talk Kurtis, Your Majesty," I said firmly. It was a test "If Kurtis has any displeasure in your judgent, he’s old enough to co to you and voice them out. I asked for your audience because I think you have made a mistake in making Alpha Jared the Coalition leader. He’s not fit to lead us. Rember how he murdered all of his brothers in cold blood just to beco Alpha and aside from that, there’s been several reports of him eting with Witches and Foxes. If we allow him to...".

"Are you saying that I made a mistake, Xavier?" Noah interrupted "As funny as this may sound, I think I did. I’ve made you too comfortable for you to feel that you can co to my presence and tell how to run my governnt,".

"That’s not true, Uncle," I said calmly "I know you’re trying to punish for sharing the sa bed as Selene and yes, it is true I still love Selene. Aside from her being the mother of my kids... she’s the only woman created for but I will never betray you especially as I know that you love Selene. I am not the enemy here, Uncle...".
