Xavier POV
My mom recoiled slightly at his words, so of the fire in her eyes dimd as my dad continued in a softer tone.
"She’s still the woman our son loves, although they’re not together but she’s the mother of his children and his one and only true mate. Also, she’s your brother’s wife... Noah will die if anything happens to her and you know that..." he sighed "So please, we gain nothing and only risk further damage by trying to punish her,".
For a fleeting mont, I felt my heart swell at my father’s words and his defence of Selene’s honor but my mom’s next words turned the warmth into confusion instantly.
"Oh? Don’t tell you’ve softened up, Paul... Did you think about all of these grand words and philosophies when you were taking care of them years ago? Or since she’s being passed around the family, perhaps you’re hoping it will get to your turn and you can finally stick your thing inside of her,".
"Nora, for Moon’s sake..." My dad gritted his teeth "We agreed not to talk about that anymore especially not in front of the kid,".
The air crackled as both of them remained silent. My mom seed to have realized that she had made a mistake and had quieted. My head whipped around to pin her an incredulous stare as I asked the second ti.
"Okay guys, what are you talking about?" I demanded letting my gaze sweep them "Selene’s parents died okay... it was a tragedy and...".
"That was no re tragedy, my darling boy," my mom crooned cutting off with a cold smile. She ca towards with the smile still in place ignoring the warning glint now flickering in my dad’s eyes. I could tell he was trying to mind-link her but she didn’t even want to respond to him.
"What?"
"Yes darling," she said when she reached "Their deaths were ... a necessity. To compensate for them forgetting their place. How could they not be grateful that we allowed them the honour by letting you take their low-born daughter as your mate,".
"What!" the words slamd into like a blow, sapping my very breath. But my mom wasn’t done yet... she wasn’t even deterred by the devastation already playing across my features.
"You see, they were coming to take away Selene from Greyhound. That was when you started being unkind to her and stuff which was normal due to the curse but they didn’t want to see it like that. They ca to take her away from her rightful place at your side,". Her smile took on a sinister look "I simply could not allow it. Especially when I know your life would be in grave danger should she have left you. I couldn’t allow your precious life to go to waste because of that,".
Tremors coursed through my body as the horrific aning of everything she was saying finally took shape. I took a step away from her...
"You... you killed them?" I rasped out, my mouth working in mute horror "Selene’s parents, you had them killed?"
She didn’t seem perturbed by the accusation and my escalating anguish. With shocking tenderness, she reached out and cradled my face in her hands, holding my gaze.
"I did it for you, Xavier... I wanted to protect you... I was just a mother doing what it takes to preserve her son’s life and destiny you were born. I wasn’t going to allow anyone to take that away from you and us," One of her thumbs stroked across my chin lovingly,".
A strangled sound... sothing born of primal revulsion and anguish tore from my throat as I shoved my mom’s grip away from . "Do you know what happened to her when her parents died? Even in the haze of my curse, I felt so much pity for her. She nearly died, mom... she wanted to kill herself and go with them. That was how much their deaths affected her. You took her light away and you think it is right?"
"I did it for you, Xavier..." She tried to reach for again but I backed away further "I wanted you to stay alive,".
"Not at the expense of soone else’s happiness," I growled "You know what... you’ve gone too far this ti, Mom. Too damn far and I don’t know what will happen to and my girls if Selene should ever know that you’re behind her parents’ death. She’ll hate forever and make sure I never see my girls,".
"Nonsense!" my mom scoffed "We’ll fight her and take the children away from her. Don’t worry, I know all the good lawyers and...".
"ENOUGH!!!" I thundered as agony laced through my form. Every part of my body was shaking with anger. I hated my mother at that mont. Turning, I staggered to the door, feeling hemd in. I need to get away from them at this mont.
"Son!" I heard my father’s voice echo behind but it sounded far away. Then I felt him touch but I shrugged out of his touch. "Xavier please... you need to calm down. You cannot rush and let Selene know, it will only make things worse,".
"So, you support what she did?" I asked looking at my dad. "Were you aware of her plan? Did you know?"
"Yes," My dad sighed "But it was too late to stop her and I couldn’t report her too. She was just afraid to lose you, especially after losing three of your siblings and...".
"That’s no excuse, Dad!" I interrupted him "There’s no excuse to kill soone. You know what... you too should get away from ... just go far... I don’t think I can speak to you or talk... please,".
"Xavier please!" my mom cried
But I was already out of the room. My parents were murderers and I was a cheater... Who would ever bla Selene for leaving? How can I ever stand in front of her and profess that I still love her when I and my family have succeeded in hurting her the most?
She doesn’t deserve all of this maltreatnt and we do not deserve her forgiveness. I was so ashad of myself and my parents. As I walked blindly down the corridor looking for a place to cool my nerves I wondered if Selene would ever forgive if she knew this.
