Aven’s POV

The lawn was filled with students. I looked towards Damon and Tristan, and they understood the ssage. Since Becca was alone in the sick bay, it was very easy for her to be attacked, knowing she is Aria’s ally and they are planning a protest.

This was also an opportunity for them to start their protest, too.

We moved back into the school building, finding our way to the sick bay.

"You three shouldn’t be here, it’s risky," One of the receptionists said with a trembling voice.

"You already know that nothing will happen to us, now, which room is Becca, the student who was rushed in a few minutes ago, staying?" I growled at her.

She looked tense, but she refused to budge. An elderly, beautiful woman stepped in; her face didn’t look familiar.

"Becca is in room 47, I think you are looking for her, co this way," the beautiful elderly woman directed.

I gave the fidgeting receptionist one last look, and she flinched before I left her.

The elderly woman walked ahead; she didn’t wait or turn her back to spare a glance.

She was very strange. I’ve been to this sick bay for so ti now, but I’ve never co across this face before.

She got to the room with the number 47 on it and stopped. "She is in here."

She turned and left without looking back or waiting to hear our reply.

Tristan was the first to go in, followed by Damon, before I got in.

Becca’s eyes were shut, she was still passed out on the bed, but she was breathing slowly, her chest rising and falling in uneven rhythms.

Her face looked pale and fragile, like her life was almost drained.

That fu wasn’t just an ordinary one; it was probably mixed with sothing else to make it this harsh on wolves, most especially weaker wolves.

Damon pulled a chair closer and sat, his eyes scanning her face with a rare softness. He didn’t say anything, but the tension in his jaw told more than words could. Tristan remained near the door, his arms folded, his eyes darting from Becca to the hallway outside, as though expecting another ambush.

I took the corner closest to the window. The air here was no less heavy, but it gave space to think, to breathe past the suffocating mixture of scents in the room.

Zade slipped in monts later, his gaze flicking to Becca first before drifting toward , Tristan, and Damon as if we were sohow responsible for this.

I an, this was just our mate’s friend who happened to be our classmate, so what is Zade doing here?, Becca isn’t his classmate.

Perhaps Aria was avoiding him, too, and he ca with the anticipation that he could et Aria here.

"How did this happen to her?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

"Well, you must have heard that there was an accident in the chemistry lab with the chemicals in it. She was one of the victims," Damon replied to him nonchalantly, with a hint of annoyance in his tone.

Zade walked to the couch pulled to the wall at the end of the room, and sat down.

A few seconds later, Arlo burst through the door, breathing heavily. I could see that his life was draining out of him, and as if on cue, Becca’s eyes opened slowly.

Are they mates? This sort of coincidence can only happen if they were mates; the energy of her mate in the sa room as her resuscitated her.

"You aren’t ant to be here, Arlo, you just survived passing out yourself, too," I reprimanded him.

If he rushed here and passed out, he wouldn’t even get to see Becca until he woke up, so why not just wait?

Arlo thinks fast, but when overridden by emotions, he acts and speaks out of impulse.

Arlo walked past us and went to sit on the bed beside Becca. "You can see my presence helped her a lot. Besides, what sort of a mate will I be if I scamper to safety while my mate is fighting for survival?" Arlo retorted.

A look of relief graced his face as Becca smiled up at him.

"It’s good to have you back," Tristan spoke up, directing his gaze towards Becca.

"You three also ca to see ?" Becca said, managing a weak giggle, like a sick child who has just seen their favorite celebrity.

"We are friends now, aren’t we?" I asked, and she managed to give a quick, weak nod.

Zade kept looking anxiously towards the door as if he were expecting Aria to walk through the door at any mont.

After so minutes, Aria walked through the door. The elderly woman from before had held the door for her.

She looked around as if studying the environnt, trying not to make direct eye contact with , Tristan, Damon, or Zade.

Then she walked towards the other side of the bed and sat beside Becca. Becca gave her a weak smile; it was clear she was managing it.

Aria looked up to Arlo, as if she was asking for an update on Becca’s health status, then looked back at Becca.

"She just had a minor concoction; she will be fine soon," Arlo said, breaking the awkward silence.

And that was my cue to reprimand her, I an, even though it was a brilliant idea and opportunity to carry out the rest of the plan, so many would have been injured because of that plan.

"You pulled a crazy stunt in the laboratory today, little wolf," I said, catching her eyes in a long gaze. "I hate to admit it, but that was a clever but risky move."

I could see a faint smile curl up her lips, but she quickly hid it.

"Maybe you should be more careful when you want to pull such a dangerous stunt again. Put weaker wolves into consideration before moving ahead with such plans," Tristan added.

A slight frown grazed her delicate face. She obviously disapproved of that statent but chose not to speak her mind.

I wondered what was going on in her mind.
