Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Qiao Xi, That’s Not How You Kiss

Huo Beiting covered his cheek, feeling wronged as he said, “He did that on purpose! Made lose face.”

Huo Jianjun, teeth itching with hatred, exclaid, “Idiot! So many experts couldn’t see it, how could he possibly know! Do you think he’s still that favored son of heaven?”

With a sneer, Huo Jianjun said, “Huo Xingzhou’s power within the Huo family has been uprooted by . I’ve paved the way for you. He’s nothing but a useless cripple now.”

“Dad, how should we deal with today’s incident?”

“Tomorrow, donate fifty million to a charity organization. I will have the dia advertise it for you. Be generous, treat money as nothing, and don’t let anyone say you’re petty.”

“Okay.”

...

Huo Beiting felt much more at ease.

“That Su Weiwei… a plaything is all she’s good for; she’s not worthy of you. And having such a mother who can’t appear in public, truly delusional.”

“I know, I was never serious about it,” Huo Beiting’s lips curled upward, “it’s just that she still has so utility.”

Huo Jianjun’s rage also subsided, and he said indifferently, “Later on, get Zhuo Feng to increase the dosage, don’t let Huo Xingzhou live too long.”

“You don’t have to tell , I was planning to do that anyway.”

That waste was always a hidden trouble.

Having been suppressed by him for so many years, Huo Beiting instinctively remained wary.

The next day.

Zhuo Feng ca for his routine acupuncture session.

Aunt Qian took Zhuo Feng’s dicine chest with earnestness, greeting him with a smile, “Doctor Zhuo, you’ve worked hard, always traveling back and forth.”

“It’s a doctor’s duty.”

“Doctor Zhuo is truly kindhearted,” Aunt Qian hesitated for a long while before asking, “Our young master… regarding that aspect, can it be cured? You know, he’s just got married… and he’s even taking ‘that’ kind of dicine.”

Aunt Qian muttered to herself, looking quite annoyed.

Zhuo Feng laughed inwardly, thinking, ‘The more dicine he takes, the faster he’ll die, which is great.’ But outwardly, he said gently, “Once his legs are healed, that aspect will naturally recover too.”

Aunt Qian breathed a sigh of relief, “Then I can rest easy.” She stole a glance at Zhuo Feng, puzzled as to why the young master would tell Doctor Zhuo about the small dicinal pill.

She led Zhuo Feng to the master bedroom, where Qiao Xi and Huo Xingzhou were all ready to go.

After giving him acupuncture, Zhuo Feng said, “The second young master’s body has improved a lot. Next, we need to change the prescription.”

He took out a stack of powdered dicine from the dical chest, “This is the newly formulated dicinal bath sachet I’ve prepared, which works even better.” He had added quite a few things to it overnight after receiving a call from the eldest young master.

After soaking for a week, he won’t be able to stand it.

Qiao Xi stepped forward to take the powdered dicine, but Zhuo Feng withdrew it, saying, “I’ll trouble the young madam to prepare the dicinal bath. Today, I’d like to stay and see the effect.”

He wasn’t leaving!

Qiao Xi looked helplessly at Huo Xingzhou, who gave a nearly imperceptible nod.

She and Aunt Qian filled the tub with hot water, watching as Zhuo Feng poured in the powder. The scent rushed out, causing Qiao Xi to feel anxious inside.

“Help in.”

Huo Xingzhou tugged at her sleeve, “What are you dazing off for?”

Reluctantly, Qiao Xi helped him into the tub, while Zhuo Feng indeed did not leave. He sat in the room, flipping through the dical book, occasionally glancing at Huo Xingzhou.

Bending over, Qiao Xi whispered in Huo Xingzhou’s ear, “Mr. Huo, the dicine powder today, it’s poisoned!”

“Can you counter it?” The man mimicked her, almost pressing against her cheek as he spoke.

“Yes.”

“If you say you can, then I believe you.”

“But if you soak for too long, it could cause significant harm to your body, and all our previous efforts will be in vain.”

Qiao Xi’s eyes reddened with anger, her apricot eyes misty.

Ever since she learned that Huo Xingzhou was the founder of the Xingyue Foundation, she had a soft spot for him. How could she let him suffer so much.

“It’s okay, I’ll try to control the ti,” Huo Xingzhou reassured her.

Qiao Xi’s throat felt sour and tight, “Mr. Huo, I have a makeshift plan.”

“What is it?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he felt a warm touch on his thin lips. Her inexperienced kiss, along with her breaths, quick and tense like a small animal’s, made him freeze.

It was less a kiss and more of an unskilled nibbling.

“Qiao Xi, that’s not how you kiss, let teach you,” he squeezed out the words between his lips. His arms encircled her neck, the embrace addictive in its intensity.

It was intoxicating.

It wasn’t clear whether it was a makeshift plan or if he was the one with sothing to hide.

The ambiguous and pulsating excitent was as if they could tear off their clothes and go straight to war for three hundred rounds right then and there.

“Humph!”

Zhuo Feng let out a cold snort. This country girl really knew how to seduce soone.

She was probably afraid that once Huo Xingzhou’s legs were treated, he would abandon her. Too bad her calculation was wrong, Huo Xingzhou would be dead soon.

“Sorry, Dr. Zhuo,” Huo Xingzhou released the blushing Qiao Xi, saying calmly, “This is just how it is with newlyweds, we can’t help ourselves.”

“Second Young Master, do as you please.” Even with a disabled third leg, Huo Xingzhou couldn’t stay put!

“I’ll have Aunt Qian show you out.”

“No need, I know the way.” Zhuo Feng picked up his dicine kit and walked out the door. Soaking in a poisonous dicinal bath and indulging in desires he couldn’t vent—dead even faster.

Why stop Huo Xingzhou from seeking his own death.

The door closed.

Huo Xingzhou said, “The makeshift plan of the Little Divine Doctor is indeed very useful.”

“Co out first,” she said.

Qiao Xi helped him out and instructed him to lie on the big bed.

She wrung a clean towel and quietly wiped his body. Along his broad back, she removed the toxic dicinal residue.

Then, moving to his chest, her fingers accidentally brushed against his muscles.

The atmosphere turned awkward, and the smile on Huo Xingzhou’s face dissipated. He couldn’t help but recall the first day she married into the Huo Family, how she woke him up in the sa manner.

“I’ll do the rest myself.”

His right hand firmly gripped her wrist and t those clear, reddened eyes.

“All right, then I’ll prepare the Golden Needle.” She retrieved her treasured Golden Needles and sterilized them with alcohol. Then one by one, she inserted them into Huo Xingzhou’s acupuncture points.

Qiao Xi’s hands were steady, but with every needle she inserted, her heart hurt just a bit more. The clear tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes, landing on Huo Xingzhou’s skin.

Huo Xingzhou felt as if his heart had been seared by the tear.

This single tear was heart-wrenching.

“Why are you crying all of a sudden?”

Qiao Xi hastily wiped away her tears, shaking her head.

“It’s just so infuriating. A doctor is supposed to heal and save lives, but he is thinking about how to harm people! Putting you in danger…”

“So you’re crying about this,” Huo Xingzhou watched Qiao Xi quietly, as the unchanging sternness in his eyes lted into tenderness, spreading out.

“Mr. Huo, why don’t good people get their rewards?” Huo Xingzhou was like this, and so was her grandmother. Yet Zhao Yuzhen and the Huo Family’s main branch were living well.

Her curled eyelashes were damp, bent into beautiful arcs. Her eyes, washed by tears, were even clearer, more captivating.

Huo Xingzhou laughed unrestrainedly, “Qiao Xi, aren’t you my reward?”

He reached out, his fingertips wiping her tear streaks, “Being this tender-hearted, you’ll get bullied to death in the future.”

Qiao Xi gazed at him unblinkingly, her heart growing warm.

She could feel the unmasked favoritism from his heart and the tacit understanding unique to lovers, longing, and palpitations.

Just as she was about to say sothing, a commotion erupted outside the door.
