"I suppose you are right. You should know," Borris said with a slight smile. "You are the weakest in your team after all."

Eh? Taking a jab at now? But Severin didn’t react. He rely nodded his head. "I suppose I should know."

Solari stood up. "There are two options available for you guys. One is the two teams fighting one another at the sa ti, and the other is to fight one by one."

Borris spoke up imdiately. "We are fighting each other together at once. That’s how we are going to do it!"

Severin shook his head. "One against one is the best option. It’s easy to judge."

"It doesn’t matter, right? It’s the last team that remains standing that wins. I imagine that’s going to be easy to judge," Borris said.

Solari stepped in. "Then we would leave it to chance."

He clapped his hands, and the golden bands on them shimred before two spears appeared in front of him. The spears were long, made of silver tal.

He handed them both spears.

Severin felt the weight and knew it was a weapon only Etherion users could lift. The spears were heavy.

Solari pointed, and in the middle of the arena, high above, a target practice projection shimred into existence. "You’ll both get a chance to throw. The one with the perfect aim will decide how the team duel will go."

Severin frowned, and Borris grinned.

He began to walk forward. "I will take the first one."

Severin followed closely behind him, keeping an eye on him until they reached the middle of the arena.

Borris stared at the target with narrowed eyes. Severin watched the sa target with a calculating look on his face.

Borris crouched, ready to throw. The aura around him was different now as his concentration turned heavy on the target, his hand tightening.

anwhile, Severin was just as tense, but it didn’t show in the way he stood there with an expressionless face. He watched as Borris exploded upward and the spear shot up.

It was at that mont that Severin made his move. His legs seed to swell and constrict as he shot after Borris’s spear. His left hand reached out and slapped it from the air, while his right one threw the spear with a blasting force.

Bam!

The spear carried a soft sonic boom as it went and through the middle of the target before it disappeared.

Everything didn’t take up to two seconds, and Severin was back on the ground as if nothing had happened.

They sat stunned.

Borris was stunned.

The two teams were stunned.

Even the guardians looked surprised.

Only Solari was laughing. "Severin Reignhart will determine the duel thod. He won!"

Borris finally seed to get his voice back, but his eyes carried a dangerous gleam. He whirled on Severin. "What the fuck! What did you just do!"

Severin shrugged. "I t the bull’s-eye."

Borris gritted his teeth, and he took a step toward Severin. Danger clung to him like a cloak of fire. "You just stopped my spear! What sort of bullshit did you just do?

"I can’t accept this! We have to redo it! Guardian Solari, please, let’s do it again."

Solari clapped and shook his head. "Once the spear left your hand, everything else that happens to it is only considered fair."

Borris twitched, and his face beca murderous. He looked at Severin with killing intent so potent that Severin tensed and got ready to defend himself.

But then Borris turned away. "Wouldn’t it be nice if you were fighting too, Severin Reignhart? I would love to see how strong you really are."

Severin waved his hand as he walked away toward his team. "I’ll pass."

Borris was left soaking in the aura of his own anger that surrounded him.

"Why’d you do that? I an, I don’t mind, but why did you do it?" Derrick asked when Severin got back to his team.

"We would be at a great disadvantage if we were to fight them as a team. Don’t you see the way they are in sync? They seem to be a team well used to fighting as a team."

Derrick snorted. "It seems... you are underestimating your team, Severin."

"What do you an?"

It was Ethan who answered. He was at the other team with a casual look on his face. "No offense, but they don’t look that strong to . We might be in the sa Refined stage, and even that S rank, they’re no match for us."

Severin turned back to look at the team.

But he didn’t just look at them this ti. He studied them, and his eyes widened in surprise. "I see."

’...I see... I’ve been looking down on them a little... I was so focused on my own improvent that I failed to see how much they’ve grown... it must be the result of them growing so fast in a small span... and not just in power alone... but in their ntality...’

Severin nodded, his face solemn.

Julius huffed. "I like the solo better. I want to fight one on one so that I can gauge my own strength. This way is far better."

Celia shrugged. "As long as I get to fight, then there’s no problem at all."

The others nodded as well.

Even Derrick rolled his eyes. "I want to see how much I’ve grown as well. I can tell, but it’s always better to see with punches."

Solari clapped to get everyone’s attention. "We are going to start now! Each team can send their representatives to the arena. It’s entirely up to you who you choose to send.

"There will be no second round for a single representative. The winning team will be the team with the most wins. Wins are counted by either your opponent’s surrender or inability to stand.

"I give Blackspire Academy the right to choose first," Solari said.

There were two S-ranked among them, while the highest from the Zenith Hero Academy was an A-ranked. It only seed fair.

Solari went back to his place, and his eyes flickered to Severin. He muttered to himself. "Let’s see what team a Reignhart gathered this ti."
