It was clear to him that they wanted more sincerity from him, so he took his generosity a step further by saying, "I swear in my Dao that I will stop fighting you for five minutes for you to save Sword Maestro. If you kill the dragon in that time, the fight will also resume. If I break my oath, may my Dao in the path of Death shatter."
This was the highest level of oath he could make, and he even put his Death Pathway, a Cosmic Dao, on the line. In his opinion, there was no greater level of sincerity. Even Tepid Scholar thought so.
The Dao Lord of the Myriad Phenomenon Sect nodded and said, "It seems you’re sincere. However, we reject your offer."
This time, even Sword Maestro was displeased with their behavior. He said, "What’s the problem now?"
Heavenly Eye replied, "We think he is wary of the dragon and wants to make us test the dragon to see if we will also be affected by his peculiar external body the exact same way you were affected."
"If we are affected the same way, he will learn from our predicament and stay away from the dragon until he has figured out how the dragon is doing it. And even if we aren’t affected, we would be the ones to save you while he gets the credit and whatever reward you will give him."

He didn’t think that what they said was far-fetched, but for the sake of his Grand Dao, he had to convince them to take the offer and help him.
But then he heard Black Chains tut and say to Martial Will, "Since when did you bee smart? You act like you hate the scholar, but I bet that you’ve been taking lessons from him."
Martial Will snorted in anger at the insinuation that he was secretly working together with the Tepid Scholar. But he ignored Black Chains and focused on their battle in the Blessed Heaven World.
Since the matter had been confirmed by the perpetrator himself, Sword Maestro couldn’t deny their claims and say that they were being overly paranoid. Even so, he was unwilling to give up.
So he said, "Even if it is the truth, I believe that with my help, we won’t be at any disadvantage against him. Just save me from the dragon, and we can fight him together."
But Tepid Scholar shook his head and said, "Too risky. Too much unknown. I think it is a better idea for us to focus on taking down the known danger than to engage with an unknown danger who is capable of ignoring the mutual suppression of Authority."
Sword Maestro still wanted to convince them, but Black Chains decided to interject at this point. He said to Sword Maestro, "Don’t bother with this bunch of short-sighted fools. I have decided to save you, and I can do so myself. However, you have to do something for me."
Sword Maestro immediately said, "I’ll do whatever you ask me to do, master."
Black Chain nodded in satisfaction and said, "That’s my good disciple."
Then, secretly, he sent a message to Sword Maestro, "If you save you, you must help me take down Tepid Scholar or Martial Will. Swear it, or I won’t move an inch to save you."
The tone of his message was all seriousness. He made it clear that he wasn’t joking around with Sword Maestro. Sword Maestro would have to show some sincerity before he actually does anything to help.
Hearing the severity in his voice, Sword Maestro replied, saying, "I swear on my Dao that if you save me and help my avatar return to my true body, I will do my best to help you kill Martial Will."
With the oath sworn, Black Chains nodded slightly before saying, "Why didn’t you pick Tepid Scholar to help me kill?"
Without hesitation, Sword Maestro said, "Because Martial Will should be easier to kill."
When Black Chains heard this explanation, he nodded and said in agreement, "That’s true."
But inwardly, he said to himself, ’You just don’t want to kill your helper. You’re still the wayward disciple that I thought you were.’
’No matter. When I kill you and that Tepid Scholar, I will have the last laugh.’
After promising himself to enjoy killing the traitorous duo, he returned his attention to the matter at hand and said, "How do I go about this? It seems I will have to make some sacrifices."
As he spoke, he made the black monkey separate from the battlefield with the four avatars. The black monkey disengaged and rushed over to deal with the dragon.
Black Chains decided to let this black monkey go and kill the dragon because it is the strongest avatar he had. This black monkey was created with the Death Pathway, a Cosmic Dao. Therefore, it will be able to kill the dragon in the shortest amount of time.
Plus, he decided that since the Death Pathway has a higher hierarchy over the Devouring Pathway, it should be able to trump whatever it was that the dragon was using to evade law suppression.
"He has one pathway, right? So no matter what tricks he has up his sleeves, its quality has to be at 49 units or below. With 81 units of Cosmic Dao on my side, I will be victorious."
When the black monkey left, the remaining four monkeys had to pick up the slack and fight the four avatars. This increased the pressure that they each had to deal with.
The four monkeys have three Grand Dao and one Major Dao to use. This placed them at a disadvantage in quality pared to the four Grand Daos of the four avatars.
