The cool night air wrapped around them as Hugo and Emily stepped out of the grand mansion, the towering structure still glowing from the extravagant party inside.
Although the party was now over, that was only officially. There were still dozens of rich n and won in that hall trying to curry favour from Emily's parents.
Hugo couldn't stand another mont if being forced to laugh along at jokes that were absolutely not jokes, or to endure Emily's father's intense stare boring down his back!
It was too much for him. This was rely his first ti. He could already be said to have tried if he didn't even slip up and embarrass himself!
But now that they were out of that hell hole,he felt like he could breathe again.
Truly, High society sucks.
The distant hum of laughter and classical music faded as they moved further into the quiet driveway, the soft click of Emily's heels against the pavent mixing with Hugo's relaxed strides.
His black Benz was parked just ahead, sleek and waiting, but Hugo wasn't in a hurry to leave just yet.
His Casanova instincts were telling him that there was still opportunity for even more fun with Emily this night.
He turned to Emily, smirking as he nudged her playfully with his elbow.
"So, do all rich people parties include a dramatic ex-boyfriend challenge, or was I just lucky tonight?"
Emily let out a short laugh, her cheeks slightly pink under the mansion's golden lights.
"I didn't exactly plan for that to happen." She shot him a sideways glance, the corner of her lips twitching up.
She looked absolutely srizing...
"But I have to admit… watching you wipe that smug look off Ethan's face was pretty satisfying."
Hugo grinned, placing a hand over his heart in mock sincerity. "Glad to be of service. The public humiliation of arrogant rich boys is my passion."
He finally experienced the joy of face slapping, he was having his own XianXia mont!
Emily rolled her eyes but didn't deny it. Instead, she folded her arms, her posture noticeably more relaxed now that they were outside.
Hugo had been watching her all night. He had seen how she carried herself, how she smiled politely but never too freely, how she always seed just a little on edge like she was trying to fit into so perfect mold.
But now? Now she was loosening up. Even though it was only slightly.
She sighed, brushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "I should probably apologize for him. Ethan can be… intense."
Hugo scoffed. "Intense? That guy was one more smug comnt away from challenging to a duel at sunrise."
That would have been a scene straight out of the young master tropes list in every Chinese author's note!
Emily laughed again, covering her mouth like she wasn't supposed to find that funny. "I don't know why he's still so competitive with . We broke up ages ago."
Hugo smirked. "Yeah, well, I bet it stings extra bad when your ex-girlfriend chooses soone else right in front of you. Especially after he just got destroyed in a piano battle."
Emily shook her head, but Hugo could see the amusent in her eyes. "You're really enjoying this, aren't you?"
"Absolutely." Hugo nodded without hesitation. "I live for these monts. There's just sothing deeply satisfying about watching a guy who thinks he's untouchable get a reality check."
He sighed dramatically, placing a hand on his chin like he was in deep thought. "It's almost poetic."
Emily let out another soft laugh, her shoulders shaking slightly. And just like that, Hugo knew he had her. The tension from earlier was fading.
He turned to her, his smirk deepening. "You know, I've noticed sothing about you."
Emily raised an eyebrow, tilting her head slightly. "Oh? And what's that?"
Hugo leaned in just a little, lowering his voice like he was about to reveal a grand secret. "You, Emily Carter, need a little fun in your life."
Emily blinked, caught off guard. "I—what?"
Hugo gestured back toward the mansion. "Don't get wrong, the whole 'rich and elegant' thing is great, but you're way too serious. You need to loosen up, let go a little, enjoy yourself." He grinned.
"And lucky for you, I'm in the business of providing fun."
He had been having so much fun in the last month that most n wouldn't even have in a year!
Emily narrowed her eyes at him, but the way she bit her lip showed she was intrigued. "And what exactly does 'fun' an to you?"
Hugo shrugged casually. "Well, I was thinking we could go rob a bank, but since you seem like the law-abiding type, I'll settle for sothing a little less extre."
He stepped closer, lowering his voice just slightly. "How about I show you a good ti tonight?"
Emily hesitated, glancing back toward the mansion like she was still considering whether she should just call it a night.
"Hugo, I don't want to waste your ti—"
Hugo cut her off smoothly. "It's not a waste." He held out his hand, tilting his head toward his car. "Co on. The night's still young."
Emily looked at him for a long mont, sothing indecisive flickering in her expression.
But then, slowly, she reached out and took his hand. Her big beautiful eyes contained a hint of nervousness and also excitent as she stared up at him.
Hugo's smirk widened as he led her to the passenger side of his Benz, opening the door with a flourish.
"Welco to the Hugo Experience. Fasten your seatbelt, because I guarantee you won't forget this night."
As Emily slid into the car, Hugo walked around to the driver's side, a smug grin creeping onto his face.
Because tonight wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
