Chapter 698: Chapter 15 Suddenly Looking Back_2

·

7:35 PM, Thorn District.

Gongsun Ce stood at the doorstep of his ho, with three won forming a blockage behind him. He turned around, hands clasped together in a pleading gesture, “Please, let Mr. Gongsun sleep on a bed for the night!”

“It’s possible,” Shiyu Ling said with ill intent, “Which bed do you want to sleep on?”

“…Is the white matter bed fine?”

“We’ll discuss this matter once we’re ho,” the young lady said, pulling open the door and dragging Wawu inside. Gongsun Ce shrank his neck and grimaced as he entered, heading straight to his room to rummage through his clothes.

“Speaking of which, Gongsun Ce,” Qiluo’s voice ca from the living room, “I’ve been curious for a while, why do you have the ability of white matter?”

“It traces back to three years ago…” Gongsun Ce began to reply out of habit, when sothing struck him.

He had been talking about three years ago, but it was already early August now. Returning from the Country had been in mid-August of that year, followed by the fierce battles rembered in the Clarity Dream, the three years of high school, and now the sumr vacation after freshman year…

Actually, it had already been four years, he just subconsciously kept thinking “three years ago,” as if ti could solidify in a set period. But ti had never stopped; it waits for no one.

“…Four years ago. I’ll talk about it with you guys later…” Gongsun Ce corrected himself. While changing, he glanced at his desk where an envelope lay.

“Because it would take a long ti to explain…”

Gongsun Ce’s voice gradually diminished as he picked up the envelope, broke the seal, and took out the long-awaited reply.

This reply was strikingly brief, uncharacteristic of her style. The few lines were clear at a glance, yet it took him a few seconds to understand the ssage and react.

“Your voice is so low, what did you just say?”

Gongsun Ce instinctively folded the letter and stuffed it into his pocket. He didn’t even finish choosing his clothes, just grabbed sothing to wear and like a whirlwind, rushed out of the house. His mind was blank; he wasn’t even aware of what he was saying and hadn’t ti to explain to them, leaving behind only his voice echoing in the room with obvious urgency and haste.

“—I’m stepping out for a mont!”

The three ladies exchanged puzzled looks, all with the sa bewildered expression in their eyes.

“What’s he up to?”

“It doesn’t seem like a crisis…” Qin Qianbai pondered, “If that were the case, Ah Ce would’ve asked us to go with him.”

Just then, Qiluo received communication from a friend. She picked up her phone and replied, “Hello, what’s up, Kardesia… Ah? Gongsun Ce isn’t allowed to make calls?”

7:35 PM, Fixed Wing District.

The information broker entered his ho, the smart ho system he had personally designed turned on the lights ahead of his arrival. Mo Yuankai settled back on the sofa, the screen without pictures reflected him, like a mirror. He looked at his corpulent figure and felt a rare sense of loneliness.

“…I’m quite fine, thanks for your concern,” Mo Yuankai talked to himself, “I’ve gotten used to retirent life… It’s fine being alone, everybody moves on to their new lives. If they were still fawning over like in the old days, it would an they haven’t grown.”

“You’re just dreaming every day, it’s unrealistic. What’s the point if everyone’s just marking ti?… Ah, so stubborn… I’m stubborn too? Yeah, could you take a break? I want to rest, thanks a lot.”

The information broker prattled on like this for a while, as if conversing with an invisible friend, like a lunatic. He took a can of cola from the fridge, opened it, and took a sip. The cold liquid passed down his throat but didn’t bring much comfort.

That’s when he had to admit that Kardesia was quite perceptive; he wasn’t that happy… maybe because everyone seed so delighted, it made him feel a rare nostalgia for the past.

“Ah, such a fool.”

Mo Yuankai pulled out his phone, hesitated for a mont, then dialed her number. At this ti in the Country, it would be just past noon; she should be free for so light-hearted chat beyond work.

“Good evening, Mo!”

The call connected imdiately; the girl’s voice was full of surprise and cheer, instantly improving his mood.

“Good evening, Orianna.”

“You haven’t called in a long ti, sir,” the girl chided, “You must be too busy with work, right?”

Mo Yuankai opened his mouth, at a loss for words. He wiped his nose, guiltily saying, “…I’ve been writing letters regularly, I didn’t call because I worried about disturbing your work.”

“Ah, it seems those concerns have suddenly vanished today.”

Mo Yuankai chuckled softly, “Sorry, how should I put it… it’s just… all of a sudden I really wanted to talk to you. Acting a bit childish, I suppose.”

Orianna’s voice suddenly beca lighthearted, any hint of reproach dissipating.

“I feel the sa, sir!”

Mo Yuankai found this response a bit odd, too straightforward for her usual style. Typically, Orianna would be sowhat shy upon hearing this, or might first scold him for being childish…

Sothing seed off. He pondered the source of his dissonance and realized that Orianna had greeted him with ‘Good evening’, but it should have been noon over in the Country…

Orianna was saying sothing, but Mo Yuankai, lost in thought, wasn’t paying attention.

“Sorry, Orianna,” Mo Yuankai said with an embarrassed laugh, “I didn’t catch that, what did you say?”

“Are you at ho, Mo?”

“Yeah,” Mo Yuankai touched his head, “It’s just here.”
