“Why did you co here instead of resting at the hotel today?” Finn Lewis asked with so puzzlent.
“I’m very interested in checking out your CPU,” Gregory Worthington responded, expressing his professional interest. His face imdiately brightened up with a hint of obsession, showing that he was the kind of workaholic when imrsed in his work.
“What’s so fascinating about it? You’ll have plenty of chances to see it later,” Finn remarked sowhat speechlessly.
“No matter how you look at it, this is the first successfully constructed graphene CPU. It’ll definitely leave a significant mark on the history of computing. What’s the na of this first CPU?” said Gregory as he marveled at the small chip.
“Galaxy,” Finn uttered the two-word na.
“The computer you’ve seen doesn’t rely represent advancent in CPUs. In a sense, it’s incorporating the principles of quantum computing, although it’s still far from becoming a fully-fledged quantum computer. But, that’s what you guys are going to work on,” Finn chuckled.
The phrase ‘quantum computer’ made Gregory’s eyes light up with excitent. Even though he was a physicist, quantum chanics was also part of physics. The successful developnt of a quantum computer would be unprecedented in the history of physics.
It was almost 9 o’clock. As the press conference’s host, Samuel Davis, CEO of the Heritage System company, took the stage, the entire venue fell silent. But the endlessly flashing cara lights almost seed to blend into a continuous light stream.
After finishing the opening introduction, Samuel Davis announced, “Now, let’s welco Mr. Finn Lewis, the chairman of the Heritage System.”
At this, Finn ca onto the stage with a smile. The mont he appeared, the ceaseless flashes of cara lights went into overdrive.
“Ladies and Gentlen, welco to Heritage System Central Processor Limited. As you can tell from our na, our company is committed to the research and developnt of CPUs for all electronic products. It is well known that silicon chips are nearing their limits, with the maximum thinnest point being 7 nanoters, and our current technology is almost reaching this limit, with a practical minimum of 16 nanoters from lab testing.”
“When we are encroaching on the limits, the exploration of a new generation of materials is inevitable for the future developnt of computers. Under these circumstances, nurous scientists have discovered graphene. Graphene is a material that can be broadly applied in various fields. Its characteristics may very well presage a new industrial revolution.”
“For instance, the touch screen’s behavioural pattern is made of graphene. Most of us have watched Iron Man; rember the transparent touch tablet in that film? It’s like this.” As he spoke, Finn pulled out an approximately 5-inch clear panel from the tabletop before him.
The reporters below were quick to adjust their cara lenses towards Finn’s hand. Even though they weren’t sure what it was, considering what Finn had just ntioned, the object could very likely be a fully operational touch screen made entirely of graphene.
“So, what do you think this is?” Finn asked with a smile.
“Many of you may still not fully understand Company A’s strategy, such as why the company that was known for launching a new product every year, has switched to a biennial launch cycle…” Finn suddenly changed the topic.
The reporters were stunned, unsure why Finn suddenly ntioned Company A. Could it be…? Before they could react, they heard Finn say, “So of you might be wondering how I started my first fund. I’m more than happy to tell you, though most people don’t know this, I am the largest individual shareholder in Company A, owning 4.8% of the company stakes.”
Upon hearing this, a whirlwind of surprise swept through the crowd of reporters. Many couldn’t believe that Finn had shares in Company A! What was his net worth? The 4.8% stake he held in Company A, though seemingly small, was worth more than 30 billion Federal coins!
“Sure, but that’s not the point. The main point is, most people don’t know why Company A has changed its strategy. It’s because I have exchanged a piece of tech for its stocks. As for what that tech is, I believe many of you are curious. However, as it’s classified information, I cannot disclose it. So, what is this object?”
Finn lifted up the object again. On the outside, it looked like a transparent plastic board, about 3-4 milliters thick and around 5 inches in size, and on one side, it had a tallic band about 1.5 centiters wide, which was attached seamlessly to the transparent touch screen.
Then, right in front of everyone, Finn pressed one of the buttons on the tallic band, and the previously sea-blue transparent plastic board instantly lit up.
Everyone gasped in amazent, because as soon as the screen lit up, a logo appeared on it: a rotating galaxy. It seed to be the brand logo for Heritage System’s product. Most importantly, the logo was fleeting, quickly followed by a familiar page.
Anyone who has used a smartphone would find this page incredibly familiar – it was typical of most smartphone interfaces, be it Android or iOS.
Finn quickly opened up a few apps, whether it was the ssaging app or the phone contacts, indicating that this was a fully functional smartphone. “Of course, if you sotis find it cumberso to keep it in your pocket…” Finn said while effortlessly folding the screen in half right in the middle.
“My God!”
“Lord!” The reporters gasped in astonishnt. Multiple cara flashes lit the room as everyone realized that even when folded, the screen remained lit, and the display automatically reduced and adjusted to the folded screen size.
“It’s more flexible than I expected, and with such flexibility, it won’t break upon accidental falls. Moreover, it’s easier to waterproof this phone. Let’s not demonstrate this now, but this is just a small gadget we’ve made with graphene. It’s not our primary item for today’s presentation.” Finn cheerfully straightened out the screen to show that it was still on, the display reverting to its usual layout before casually tossing it onto the nearby table.
