Chapter 2291: Chapter 2355: The Central Enigma

During dinner, Wu Shuwei suddenly looked up while eating, her eyes bright as she stared at Li Yifei and said, "This is the first ti I’ve eaten with a man in this house."

Li Yifei spit out the bone and said, "In this house?"

"Since moving in, only my best friend has co to eat here; not even my mom has eaten here."

"So I’m very honored," Li Yifei said with a smile.

"Yes, you really are quite lucky," Wu Shuwei said earnestly.

"Haha!" Li Yifei couldn’t help but burst into laughter. After that, a silence fell between them because neither knew what to say next. Li Yifei constantly reminded himself to keep a certain distance from Wu Shuwei, and Wu Shuwei told herself the sa, to keep away from the man sitting more than a ter opposite her, the one with many wives—sothing she used to utterly detest, marking it with a red cross definitively.

Yet, fate has its plans. She could barely avoid him, always finding herself drawn to him. Well, except this ti; this ti, Li Yifei took the initiative by buying and bringing her cats. Then...how did he end up buying food and sitting across, eating comfortably? It seed he might not leave tonight...

Wu Shuwei thought of this and bit the at forcefully.

After dinner, Li Yifei indeed didn’t leave. He played his part, going to the kitchen to clean the dishes casually, washed his hands, and wiped them dry as he walked out. He saw Wu Shuwei playing with cats, while he picked up a book, sat on the other side of the sofa with his phone, and comfortably placed his legs on the coffee table.

While replying to ssages, Li Yifei glanced at Wu Shuwei. She was more mindful now, crouching down and watching the cats, yet her posture was not so carefree.

It was already past ten at night, nearing eleven. Wu Shuwei yawned, stretched lazily, and suddenly turned to look at Li Yifei, who, unsurprisingly, was watching her. Feeling a warm rush to her cheeks, she thought of how the flesh on her waist was exposed when she raised her arms. She glared at Li Yifei and said, "I’m going to bed."

"Hmm, go ahead!" Li Yifei withdrew his gaze, unfazed by being caught staring, flipped a page, and continued reading.

Wu Shuwei rolled her eyes twice and asked, "What about you?"

"I’m not sleepy yet!" Li Yifei said without looking up, "You go sleep if you’re tired."

Wu Shuwei stayed put and said, "The guest room isn’t tidied..."

"That’s okay."

"So you’re not planning to go ho?" Wu Shuwei finally couldn’t help asking.

Li Yifei then raised his head, looked at Wu Shuwei, and said frankly, "It’s so late, why would I go ho now?"

"But... this is my ho, and... aside from my dad, no other n have stayed here. Are you planning to sleep over?"

"What? It’s not like we’ve never stayed in the sa house before; you sleep in your room, and I’ll sleep in mine."

"But it’s different; this is my house!"

"You can sleep in my bedroom at my place too." Li Yifei said with a smile.

Wu Shuwei suddenly felt speechless, glancing at the two kittens already asleep in their nest. Feeling a bit awkward, she said, "I won’t let you sleep in my bedroom!"

"Alright, if you’re tired, go to sleep. I’m not leaving tonight. If the guest room isn’t ready, just find

a quilt, and I’ll settle on the sofa for the night!" Li Yifei said and returned his gaze to the book, sensing Wu Shuwei hadn’t moved, he asked, "What? Is that not okay either?"

"It’s not that it’s not okay...fine, I’ll tidy up the guest room for you." Wu Shuwei struggled internally but decided not to insist on making Li Yifei leave. After all, that would seem too unkind. Just let him...stay the night, and when she thought about it more, they had stayed in the sa house before, even more intimately than this. So, Wu Shuwei no longer insisted, turning to go upstairs to prepare the guest room.

Li Yifei couldn’t help but smile as he watched Wu Shuwei’s graceful figure turn upstairs and shook his head. Ten minutes later, he heard Wu Shuwei say the guest room was ready, and he replied, "Alright, you go sleep first; I’ll read a bit more."

After taking a shower, Wu Shuwei ca downstairs again, initially intending to bring the two kittens to her bedroom. But upon seeing their litter box, she abandoned the idea and took the box to the bathroom downstairs instead.

Seeing the two kittens crawling onto Li Yifei’s legs, lying there affectionately yet mischievously, made Wu Shuwei feel unbalanced. She spent the whole afternoon and evening getting close to, caring for, and feeding them, yet they ignored her, sticking close to Li Yifei, who hadn’t cared for them.

After watching for a while, Wu Shuwei went upstairs to sleep, feeling happy. She opened her phone and looked through photos of the kittens. The last photo she had taken monts before had Li Yifei in it too, sitting side-on, holding a book, with a kitten curled up on each leg, the picture harmonious and warm.

She secretly set the picture as her phone wallpaper, feeling her cheeks heating up, repeatedly telling herself she just liked the kittens, while Li Yifei happened to be in the shot and just because it was the best and clearest photo.

Downstairs, Li Yifei read until midnight, finished the book, placed it back, and then went upstairs to sleep.

In the morning, Wu Shuwei woke up not too late, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and went downstairs. She intended to get a glass of water from the kitchen, but saw a male figure busy there, which startled her. She was about to scream when she suddenly rembered that Li Yifei was there, so she held back her shout. She sniffed the air and slled fried eggs, which imdiately made her feel a bit hungry.

"You two are awake too!" Wu Shuwei had co out imdiately upon waking because she was worried about the two kittens. As she walked downstairs, she saw that their food bowls were filled with cat food, clearly indicating that Li Yifei had already fed them. After a night’s adjustnt, the kittens were getting used to their surroundings. At this mont, they were lying together, basking in the sunlight. Even as Wu Shuwei approached, they didn’t open their eyes.

"Go brush your teeth and wash your face, and then have breakfast," Li Yifei said, placing the fried eggs on a prepared plate.

Wu Shuwei blinked and asked, "Did you brush?"

"I did!" Li Yifei said with a grin.

Today, Li Yifei had serious matters to attend to, so he couldn’t linger at Wu Shuwei’s house. Even though he wasn’t planning to develop anything with Wu Shuwei, staying at her place felt comfortable and pleasant.

After leaving the house, Li Yifei drove straight to Murong Yuanqing’s residence, which was the sa upscale villa from a few days ago. Familiar with the route, he quickly arrived and t Murong Yuanqing, who, upon seeing him, chuckled and said, "I knew you would co. We still have unfinished business from last ti!"

"Has the matter regarding that elder been resolved?" Li Yifei asked.

Murong Yuanqing sighed and said, "What’s there to resolve? When a person dies, it’s like a light going out. No matter how old the living are, they must continue on."

Li Yifei nodded and said, "Indeed, the living still have their own tasks."

"Alright, let’s talk about the main issue first!" Murong Yuanqing gestured for Li Yifei to sit down.

"Elder, I have another matter I’d like to consult with you on this visit." Li Yifei sat down and said.

"What’s it about?" Murong Yuanqing raised an eyebrow.

Li Yifei recounted the encounter with the enigmatic expert and Old Master Su to Murong Yuanqing. Upon hearing that even Li Yifei couldn’t discern the figure’s appearance or gauge their strength, Murong Yuanqing couldn’t help but furrow his brows. By the ti Li Yifei finished the story, Murong Yuanqing was already rubbing his temple.

"Elder?" Li Yifei called out after a while, seeing Murong Yuanqing lost in thought and not responding.

Murong Yuanqing lowered his hand, but his expression grew serious. Though he heard Li Yifei’s call, he didn’t respond imdiately. It took a full minute or two before he spoke, "I haven’t seen the mysterious expert you ntioned, but... he might very well be the long-disappeared Central Enigma!"

"Wait, Elder Murong, aren’t you the Central Enigma?" Li Yifei quickly asked.

Murong Yuanqing smiled wryly and said, "What kind of enigma would I be? Among the Five Great Masters, I could say I’m the least enigmatic. It’s just that I’ve been in the Capital City for the past few years, so I’ve been considered the person in the center. However, the real Central Enigma is soone else. I once told you about the Five Great Masters, do you rember?"

"East, South, West, North, Center, of course, I rember. I just always thought you were the Central Enigma," Li Yifei replied.

Murong Yuanqing responded, "I’m certainly not. Let’s just say I suspect the person is the Central Enigma, but in reality, who he is or what he looks like, not just you, even I and so of the old folks have never seen him."

"What?" Li Yifei exclaid in surprise and asked, "Elder, you’ve never t the Central Enigma?"

"No, we have known each other for a long ti, since that era. We had contact post-establishnt as well, but in the past few decades, not much contact, with only occasional news. In fact, it’s been over ten years since there’s been any news of him."

"According to my grandfather, the Central Enigma might always have been in hiding in the Capital City, in that alley I visited a few days ago!" Li Yifei said.

Murong Yuanqing nodded and said, "It seems so. Alas, he is truly one of the strongest people I’ve ever seen, if not the strongest."

"Much stronger than you all?"

"Could you see through his cultivation?"

Li Yifei shook his head, indicating he couldn’t.

Murong Yuanqing sighed and said, "Neither can I, even none of us could from the beginning understand how powerful he truly is, it’s just..."

"Just what?"

"In a few fierce battles back then, we were all severely wounded, but that person erged unscathed!"
