After the Bloodhand Brothers perished, Jiu’er quickly regained her senses.
As her pupils reverted to black, a bout of vertigo ensued before they found themselves back in the outside world.
The do above once again beca a colorful, glowing glass, and the surroundings dimd. Beneath their feet was soil, not a prairie soaked in blood... and the saint had vanished as well.
At that mont.
A system prompt suddenly appeared before them:
[Just yesterday, Annan Winter was the target of an assassination attempt]
"Huh? Huh???"
Lin Yiyi was completely stunned upon seeing the unexpected system prompt.
Fortunately, after she took a deep breath, it continued to scroll down:
[Luckily, Vasily Rasputin rescued Annan at the critical mont]
"Damn it..."
Four Dark Gang couldn’t help but curse as well.
He had also been frightened just a mont ago—by now, the players had realized that their ability to co to this world was connected to the Book of Truth that Annan possessed.
So if anything had really happened to Annan, they probably would have been sent back imdiately.
For an instant, he even felt so regret—why hadn’t he left a few guards by Annan’s side? If His Highness Annan could have unfolded the resurrection power of the Book of Truth, the endlessly respawning players could have piled up to block the assassin...
"Fortunately, nothing happened..."
Jiu’er muttered softly, rubbing her eyes.
She had been staring so long, her eyes felt a bit dry. The illusions she had seen before had left her sowhat confused.
Xitan Pulan also nodded in agreent.
Shortly thereafter, the prelude to the main quest continued to scroll leisurely downward:
[Through the interrogation by Winter’s Hand, Annan acquired new intelligence—the assassins hailed from a fringe noble faction known as the Northern Union]
[Not only did they undertake an act of rebellion, but they were also seeking the power of the fallen; they had unspeakable dealings with both "Nata County" of the Kingdom of Noah and the "Saltpeter Ranch" of the United Republic of the Twin Goddesses, and there seed to be shadows of the Icebreaker Army...]
[You have resolved to uncover evidence of their dealings with these powers as quickly as possible.]
[In the three different investigative directions, you will encounter various types of enemies. Defeat those with malicious intent obstructing the path—choose the direction where you have the greatest advantage, and your comrades in arms will supplent the others]
[Rember, the entire investigation must remain secret]
[You have acquired the main quest: Power of the Triumvirate (I)]
[Quest requirents: Form a sharpshooter squad, and kill "Mushroom Eaters" (0/30); form a sharpshooter squad and defeat the "Bloodhand Brothers" (2/2); form a sharpshooter squad and locate the Icebreaker Army (0/1), choose any one]
"Hey? Wait a minute..."
Lin Yiyi blurted out.
Soon, a completion notification for their mission appeared before them:
[You have completed the main quest: Power of the Triumvirate (I)]
[After a battle hard won by the skin of your teeth, you have finally defeated the Bloodhand Brothers]
[From now on, your investigations on Saltpeter Ranch will no longer face obstructions. Find the evidence of their dealings with the Winter nobles before the other party disposes of the relevant docunts.]
[You have acquired the main quest: Power of the Triumvirate (II)]
[Quest requirents: Find the relevant evidence (0/1)]
The first segnt of the main quest was settled the mont it popped up.
Right after that, they imdiately received the second segnt of the main quest.
"Difficult my ass. A one in ten chance of survival my hamr."
Four-of-a-Kind retorted, "I an, we didn’t even lift a finger, did we?"
Wasn’t it just a CG they watched, and then the two of them kicked the bucket?
"Take a look at the forum."
Xitan Pulan suddenly said, "Looks like everyone else has also received the first phase of the main quest."
"...Oh?"
The other three paused upon hearing this and checked the forum.
As expected, the players were in an uproar—one half were complaining about how terrifying the mission briefing was, saying it was truly f*cking scary, while the other half discussed and analyzed the clues presented in the briefing.
But none of them had received the second phase of the main quest.
So Xitan Pulan just took a screenshot of the mission he received and posted it, and then recounted their experience—partly for Jiu’er, who hadn’t witnessed their battle.
After a brief silence, everyone sent ssages of amazent:
"You guys actually fought it out?"
"So, about that king oyster mushroom..."
Four-of-a-Kind continued to grumble, "This boss’s chanics are unsolvable, okay?"
He had also wanted to upload the video he recorded.
But for so reason, he found that the video was corrupt—this was the first ti the players realized they couldn’t record a video.
"...No, it should be beatable."
Lin Yiyi unconsciously threw a punch at Four-of-a-Kind, who was habitually taking the opposite stand, but then she quickly realized, "If it were just us, the Bloodhand Brothers definitely wouldn’t have used their ultimate. Plus, they probably wouldn’t have even shown up in front of us..."
Though the Bloodhand Brothers seed to charge at them irrationally, it was because they were accompanied by the Saint of Sacrifice.
Otherwise, to encounter a boss of this caliber, one would probably need to progress through the stages one by one in the proper order...
"And that insta-kill ability should be a special kind of soft enrage chanic."
Lin Yiyi, who had played MMOs the most among them, analyzed, "Look at that brother of his... after activating the ability, he suddenly dropped dead. And then after his brother shattered, that ability stopped.
"So I reckon it’s either a matter of handling the chanic... like setting up a defensive shield or hiding sowhere before he activates that skill, to survive that phase; or it’s a soft enrage chanic. That is, killing one of them off before they realize sothing’s wrong. Of course, it might still force one death at the end..."
"And then a cutscene kill? Chopping down the elder Bloodhand with a leaping strike?"
Four-of-a-Kind, enduring his sister’s beatings, stubbornly complained, "And then with a ’Rise, warriors of the holy light,’ we all revive?"
"I don’t think that works. First, the Bloodhand Brothers would have to remove the Saint from the fight..."
"’Remove,’ my foot. He basically just helped us cast Frost Nova."
"That can’t be it. Then what we went through should be the main raid for a light-weight squad, and there might be a 24-person raid replica later... In that case, the Saint would start frozen, then we’d DPS to a health lock, and he’d force wipe us with an ultimate, leaving himself half dead. The Saint would then mysteriously appear from sowhere, talk so smack, and conveniently deliver the final blow."
"Ah, that’s more like it."
Four-of-a-Kind suppressed a laugh, "And if they rigged the loot drop as well, that would be even more spot on."
"Before my eyes... there’s only... darkness..."
Because she didn’t see the battle and couldn’t keep up with the conversation, Jiu’er finally spoke, wrinkling her face and imitating Batman’s voice.
At this, the players instantly burst into laughter.
"What are you talking about?"
Saint Henry asked curiously as he approached from behind them.
The players instantly fell silent.
It was like discussing the class teacher, only for the stealthily approaching teacher to erge from behind them...
