Chapter 1338: Chapter 1324: Painful mories Chapter 1338: Chapter 1324: Painful mories Everything quieted down, and only then did they erge from the water pond.

Ye Chen’s mind was in a tumult, those people had disappeared without a trace, and he pulled ng Xiuluo out of the water. The girl’s arm was ice-cold, and she was already injured, not to ntion having been soaked in the freezing pond for nearly one hour.

He hurriedly helped her regulate her breathing, and her body gradually ward up.

He lit a large fire and murmured, “Who were those people?”

“They are from Zang Di, the current biggest leader on Slaughter Island.” Although she had not returned to Slaughter Island for many years, she still knew so things about it.

“You said you have a way?” Ye Chen was obviously very anxious.

ng Xiuluo explained, “Slaughter Island, after decades of killing, is now left with only two factions: Zang Di and the Demon Clan’s Scorpion Witch, and they are mortal enemies. Whoever brings the other to their knees will rule Slaughter Island.”

“You an, we can ask Scorpion Witch for help.”

ng Xiuluo was fairly certain that those guys showing up in a group couldn’t have been just for the three of them. From their conversation, she knew they were here to capture mbers of the Dragon Slaying Clan, and they must have captured quite a few. So, these people could very well be those stranded on Slaughter Island from a shipwreck.

If they could drift to Slaughter Island, other disciples might also be stranded here.

“Don’t worry, they’ve captured so of our people too.”

“How do you know that?”

From their conversation, it was clear they ca to capture mbers of the Dragon Slaying Clan. They couldn’t have known we were from the Dragon Slaying Clan to begin with; it’s likely they had already caught so of us and knew there were many from our clan stranded on this island because of the shipwreck.”

Ye Chen thought there was so truth to this.

“They are searching for mbers of the Dragon Slaying Clan.”

Ye Chen asked with confusion, “How did you get on their bad side?”

“That’s a long story from the past.”

It was about the fourth watch of the night by then.

The pain in ng Xiuluo’s wound flared up again, so Ye Chen tossed her a white bottle and said, “This should help with the wound.”

ng Xiuluo caught it and replied, “I’m not going to die yet.”

“Of course you can’t die, you have to tell how we can rescue them.” Ye Chen was completely unfamiliar with Slaughter Island, but from the girl’s earlier remarks, she might truly have a plan.

The night passed without event, and those painted with monkey buttocks didn’t return to search. By now, their clothes had also dried. Ye Chen quickly got so fish from the pond, and the girl had woken up, looking sowhat better, though still weak, but likely in better shape than yesterday.

After breakfast, Ye Chen asked, “Where should we head now?”

“Naturally, we’re going to Slaughter City.”

Ye Chen was anxious, now certain the girl had been captured. Would those burly n have eaten her imdiately? If such a thing really happened, was the girl still alive? But his anxiety was of no use at the mont.

Ye Chen followed the girl through the forest. She seed to know her way around quite well, not at all like it was her first ti here, and said, “Is this your first ti on this island?”

“No.”

“Then you didn’t know they despise your people, yet you dared to ntion Dragon Slayer Island.”

“I thought it might intimidate them.”

Unfortunately, things did not go as you wished, and instead of intimidating them, you enraged them.

“Who would have thought.” They didn’t rember how many circles they turned in the forest, but they knew it was almost noon when they finally found their way out. Crossing a hill, a huge city appeared below, bustling with people coming and going. It seed as though nobody cared about what had happened in the forest the night before.

The two headed straight for the city gates unnoticed.

Ye Chen was still cautious, as if he feared encountering the sa group of people from last night.

“Stop looking around. If they wanted to capture you, they wouldn’t make their move in the city.”

“How do you know that?”

“Inside the city, it’s a mix of good and bad people. Even if Zang Di reaches high, he can’t do whatever he wants.”

The two entered the city.

Ye Chen asked, “Do you know where their den is?”

“You can’t save them alone, even if your martial arts are very high,”

Ye Chen couldn’t fully trust this girl; it was better to remain alert.

They had turned into an inn, seemingly forgetting the life and death struggle from the previous night, yet it felt like returning ho. He almost entered the inn without a second thought, as if not worried about being targeted by soone, which sowhat surprised Ye Chen.

As soon as she arrived, she nad the inn’s signature dish.

“You seem more than a little familiar with this place.”

His words sent her into a long reverie. She asked, “Do you want to know how your brother ca to be like this?”

Ye Chen didn’t understand what she ant.

ng Xiuluo looked out the window at the street below and said, “Your brother beca what he is today starting from this place.”

Ye Chen narrowed his eyes.

“No one is born bad; everyone wants to be a good person. But if you want to survive in this city, you must be sufficiently vicious. This is a world where the strong eat the weak, an untad Slaughter Island, where anything can be traded—slaves, won, money, even lives, as long as the silver is enough.”

Ye Chen didn’t know if the girl was telling the truth, but judging by her expression, it was unlikely to be false.

ng Xiuluo poured herself a cup of tea and poured one for him as well, continuing, “No one cares whether you live or die; this is a world of animals. Even less will anyone pity you. If you want a bit of dignity, you must climb to the top of the food chain.”

Her eyes carried a mix of heaviness and complexity, likely so unhappy mories.

“Back then, we were all children, but no one cared. We were sold like goods to others, on that trading stand like piglets in a cage. After the deal, nobody cared what happened to us. Everyone here believed it was the law of nature; survival of the fittest. If you want to survive, you must be more vicious, bloodier, and heartless than others. Here, emotions are the lowest of the low.”

Ye Chen took another sip of tea.

ng Xiuluo continued, “They don’t care if you’re a child; if they buy you, you’re their property, to do with as they please. Here, you’re less than a pig or dog.”

She must have suffered a trauma; Ye Chen could see it in her eyes.

“You can’t trust anyone because you might get stabbed in the back at any mont. Trusting soone ans you’re foolish, not kind. No matter how good you are, this place will make you bad because you must adapt to the rules here if you want to survive. Otherwise, you’ll never make it here unless you want to be soone’s plaything forever.”

Ye Chen indeed saw so people locked in cages; they were like sheep confined within.

“There are no moral baselines here, an extre lack of trust. Anyone can beco the master and is destined to beco more vicious. If you’re capable, climb up. If you die, don’t bla God for being blind. Opportunities are everywhere; it’s about whether you’re cold-blooded enough and willing to live by the rules here.”

“The girl you spoke of, will she be put up for sale?” Ye Chen asked, worried.

“Probably not, that girl is so pretty, Zang Di might take a fancy to her. Usually, the ones traded here are around twelve or thirteen.” That was how she had been dragged up, like a little beggar in the rain. If she hadn’t t him later, she probably would have died long ago.

Ye Chen beca anxious upon hearing this. If that girl was really defiled, she’d likely commit suicide. He said, “Let’s hurry up and eat, then find whatever help you can find.”

“It seems you care a lot about her.” She had overheard quite a few of his conversations with the girl in the past few days.

“You don’t know her character. If anything happens to her, she’ll definitely kill herself.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve heard that Zang Di has so tough won looking after his interests.”

“That’s not good enough. If soone really wants to do sothing to another person, a few tough won won’t be able to stop it.”

At that mont, the waiter in the back brought up the food ng Xiuluo had ordered.

ng Xiuluo dismissed him and added, “No matter how strong you are, it won’t help here. Even if you are really defiled, what can you do? What’s done is done; you still have to live.”

She seed to be talking about herself, her eyes filled with mories.

“Tears are not trusted here; they are the least valuable.”

“You’re familiar with Longhun’s experiences here?”

“That day, a fine drizzle was falling. I didn’t know him, but we were both put up on that trading stand, with people bidding below. We were bought by the sa owner. He was very thin and scared back then.”

Ye Chen could almost picture it.

“Don’t feel sorry for yourself.” ng Xiuluo had heard about his story too, especially the part about Immortal City, then his departure, and eventually, his mother dying on the road.

Ye Chen took another sip of tea and began to eat, but he couldn’t help asking, “What kind of buyer was it?”

“Apart from sadists and perverts, I don’t know how else to describe him. He treated us like pigs and dogs, not like people. It’s a wonder anyone who ca from his hands wasn’t twisted.”
