The spider cried out as it felt pain surge through all the nerves in its body, and as it rose its one good head, it felt fear course through its body as it saw Mark appearing from the distance. Mark was walking forward with a haze of mana surrounding him, and the spider couldn't even begin to put together a sensible thought at that mont! Every thought of trying to hold Mark back was gone from its mind! It just needed to survive!
The spider suddenly ballooned into a wide, big ball with all of its hairs standing on edge and it bowed its head and raised its large behind up before releasing all of the hairs like projectiles! The hairs flew true and shot straight towards Mark at the sa ti!
Each one of the hairs had the sa strength and ductility as the skin from an Armageddon-class anima, and if sothing that strong and traveling that fast hit anything in its path, it was more than capable of tearing it to pieces imdiately!
But Mark didn't even need to put up a shield! Mark took in a deep breath and put a hand out, and then Mark copied what gumi had done earlier, and his mana surged out from his body in a wave of pure blue mana that created a shield around him!
Ratatatatatata!
A few of the spikes were able to get through since this was only the first ti that Mark was trying this and he wasn't perfect at it, but those ones already lost a lot of their montum, and once they hit Mark, they just fell to the ground uselessly.
After seeing the way gumi was able to use her mana to create a shield earlier, Mark could tell that it was not sothing that gumi could do because of her blessing. Mark had a very high sensitivity for any form of mana, and he could tell how people were moving their mana in their body during a fight, so when Mark was watching gumi closely, he saw how she was able to transport her mana from her belly out through her pores and then spread it through the air like a sheet of paper. Doing this might seem like it wouldn't protect you at all, but when your mana is as dense as Mark or gumi's mana, then only that much would be enough to stop most magical attacks that are lower than your rank.
The best part of this was the fact that Mark could save a lot more mana by using this thod. Mark glanced at his system tab and saw that instead of the regular two hundred points per second that the [Aegis of Ares] would take or the five hundred points that [Crown of the Golden Horizon] consud, this thod only took fifty mana points to achieve.
'I should've tried this earlier.'
Mark frowned in irritation as he realized how much mana he had been wasting in fights, but he didn't beat himself up too much because Mark knew that he hadn't really faced an opponent that would make him evolve like this before now!
The spider saw what Mark had done to block the spikes, and it felt even more fear as it activated another one of its abilities. The spider quickly turned and jumped into the air, and Mark sent out the Fangs and latched onto the spider's legs before it could get away!
BAM!
The spider slamd into the ground and Mark dragged it over with a tug and pulled his hand back to end this fight, but another figure suddenly appeared from the side and slamd into the spider!
BOOM!
The figure grabbed the spider by its one remaining head and slamd it into the ground before it raised a katana into the air and brought it down sharply!
SQUELCH!
SCREEECH!!
The spider screeched in pain as its eye was impaled through and it quickly turned around and threw the person off its body! The spider raised its hair again and sent out a desperate shot of spiked hair, and the person attacking it didn't even bother to block any of the hairs as so of them dug deep into her body and face! She charged straight for the spider and slashed across its legs, tearing off two of them and leaving a deep gash in the third one! She got on top of the spider again and started to stab it repeatedly once it fell!
Squelch! Squelch! Squelch! Squelch! Squelch! Squelch!
Mark stood with his brow furrowed in surprise as he watched gumi absolutely destroy the large spider! Her entire body was covered in blood, and there were multiple injuries all over her, but she didn't seem to care. She was just stabbing into the monster without blinking even once!
Mark moved towards her and then grabbed her hand when she was about to stab the monster for the fiftieth ti, and gumi suddenly sent a slash straight for Mark! Mark used his gauntlet and stopped it from hitting him! He jumped back as she sent another slash for him, and then she started to try to hit him over and over again without stopping!
"gumi!"
Mark called her na, but she did not answer!
Slash! Slash! Clang!
Mark dodged two of her slashes and blocked the third one with his gauntlet! He redirected one of the slashes to the ground! Reached over and grabbed gumi by the shirt before body-tossing her to the other side of the clearing!
"gumi!"
BOOM!
gumi slamd into the ground a hundred ters away, but she easily got back to her feet and raced forward before she started to slash at Mark again! But this ti, Mark grabbed her by both hands and slamd his head into her own!
BANG!
The sound echoed through the clearing as blood started to leak from a wound that Mark caused with the headbutt, but gumi didn't seem to care! She was still staring at Mark with an expressionless look on her face, but underneath that, Mark could see that she was not really in there. It was like gumi was lost inside her own head. There was this aura of defeat and anger surrounding her, but it couldn't really show itself because of how emotionless she was. Mark didn't have ti for this! He had to get to Arit.
But leaving gumi like this was only going to cause even more problems. From what Mark just saw, he knew that gumi was not only attacking the anima. She was attacking anyone at all that she saw! Mark couldn't just leave her like this to do whatever she wanted. Mark knew it hadn't worked before, but he couldn't think of any other way to help her right now other than using the [Symbol of Gaia], so Mark grit his teeth and prepared himself for the coming headache before he entered into gumi's mind!
Mark imdiately felt his head pulse as a massive headache slamd into the right side of his skull! Mark saw gumi grimace as well and he knew for a fact that she was also feeling the sa headache, but Mark didn't bother stopping this ti as he went deeper and deeper in.
Strange images suddenly started to play in Mark's mind, and it didn't take long for Mark to realize that these were mories of gumi's life. Her birthdays, her school life, her training, her relationships with her family. Everything was playing out like a movie for Mark, and the further Mark went, the more he felt the headache increasing.
Finally, after a long ti, Mark stopped the link as he saw blood leaking out from gumi's nose. Mark watched as gumi blinked a few tis and then turned to look at him for a good long mont. She was no longer struggling in his hands and Mark slowly called her na.
"gumi. Are you alright?"
gumi stayed silent for a while longer before a tear started to fall from her eye. The tear slowly increased in intensity and gumi felt her face scrunch up into a grimace of pure pain as she cried out to Mark.
"My brother! They... They killed my brother!"
