Chapter 1459: Chapter 1559: Chase
Last ti at Worsent Manor, the demon held back because it still hoped Shard would complete the commission. This ti, Shard faced the fully ford Stone Mirror Demon: Goethe.
"The Hunter’s Ring..."
Compared to the magic potion whose effects are ultimately ti-limited, it was more concerned about the ring on Shard’s finger:
"Ah, such nostalgia, the ti of the Third Era feels like it was just yesterday. I really miss those demon hunters, although most were just ordinary mortals, there were a few that left a deep enough impression on . Seeing this ring again in the current Sixth Era, I’m genuinely gratified. I just wonder, do you truly understand the kind of power humans from the Ancient Era possessed."
"The demon hunters you miss, do they include the one who sealed you during the downfall of Stonville Kingdom in the Sixth Era?"
Shard asked, and in the brief few seconds, without any action required, the effects of the Golden Potion had been pushed to the extre.
"Trying to anger a demon is futile."
The demon reminded, and Shard raised the longsword in the snow:
"So, are you ready? This ti, I’m definitely going to seal you."
After speaking, he transford like a flowing light, charging at the demon with the sword, and the latter watched Shard get closer. But when Shard took a certain step, his silhouette suddenly vanished into the snow, later appearing closer to the manor gate, swiftly morphing into a swarm of scarlet butterflies flying outward.
"Running away? That makes
look down on you."
So Goethe also transford into black smoke to pursue.
The role of the "Golden Potion" is not limited to enhancing the damage against demons; its enhancent on the sorcerer itself is quite significant.
Shard, transford into a swarm of scarlet butterflies, even dragged a golden trail while flying. The demon seed to be toying with him, the black smoke just trailing behind, flying with him into the chaotic woodland outside the burning manor:
"I thought you had enough courage, why run away?"
The demon’s whisper directly reached Shard’s ears in his butterfly swarm form, yet fortunately, he couldn’t speak in this state, thus no need to respond.
In the smoke-filled cedar forest ablaze, Shard chose his flight path through the dense fog and scorching fire, knowing where he wanted to go.
"You don’t really think you can escape, do you?"
The laughing voice intertwined with rumbling and crackling sounds aid to disrupt Shard’s thoughts. But Shard had prepared for this night for so long, his plan was quite smoothly executed until now.
"Your fate will be as tragic as Osenfort’s. Your family, your beloved, everything you have will eventually fall into my grasp."
If not for encountering different demons consecutively last year, Shard might have really been influenced by the demon’s whispers now.
He couldn’t maintain the scarlet butterfly form for too long, reverted to his body, and continued running forward silently.
The flas, manipulated by the demon, blocked his path, presenting various illusions. Shard cried holding a woman, called out outside a burning house, knelt before a grave crying with his face buried...
But Shard ignored all these, running through the flas as if through a maze, disregarding the inducing voice and various strange sights. The demon transford into a black mist followed him, not attacking vitals, but constantly creating various wounds on his body’s surface.
Shard only turned around to aim the Desecration Cross at the black mist to force it to retreat slightly when in danger, then continued running forward.
He only wanted to reach the target location now.
Finally, the wounded Shard dashed out from the burning woods, arriving beside the Elon River outside the Osenfort Estate.
The Osenfort Estate was actually adjacent to the Elon River, with a small dock convenient for smuggling, and Shard and Osenfort had last passed through the bridge here during horse racing.
Shard, bursting out from the fire scene, felt the power of the Golden Potion waning, and also sensed the distinct spatial barrier just across the icy surface of the Elon River.
He dashed towards the direction of the river but stopped on the beach due to the demon’s coercion. At this mont, the blood from his forehead slid down his cheeks, the clothes on his back bore an opening revealing his sowhat bloody back, but all this was worth it. Although he couldn’t win a frontal fight against the demon, ultimately he was victorious.
The demon’s figure erged from the black smoke at the edge of the burning woods, with its back to the manor and the burning forest, further away were the noisy mountains in the heavy snow, and indistinguishable creatures flying in the night sky:
"Superstitiously, it’s said that demons and vampires can’t cross a river because the flowing water is pure. You’re so eager to head towards the river, as a sorcerer, don’t tell
you believe in such superstition?"
Shard shook his head, the firelight dyed the icy surface a hundred ters behind him a fiery red as he struggled to stand, yet chose not to summon the doctor:
"Do you really know who I am?"
"Under the alias John Hua, yet you have an inexplicable connection with the God Summoner. In the significant events in the Randall Valley Region in recent months, your shadow subtly appeared. But who you are isn’t very important, what’s important is, you made the wrong choice."
The demon watched Shard from the riverside, the firelight illuminating Shard’s face, Shard held the Silver Cross in his left hand, dropping from the top right to the bottom left, while holding a longsword in his right hand, dropping from the top left to the bottom right.
Two bright moonlights intertwined into a massive silver cross before him, and at that mont, the glimr was even more dazzling than the forest burning far away:
"Moonlight—Slash!"
With a sideways lunge, the silver great cross imbued with golden power struck towards the demon on the shore. This ti, even this Ancient Evil Spirit dared not underestimate it. It lightly stepped back, trying to enter the mirror that suddenly appeared behind it.
But Shard’s voice already erged from behind it:
"Don’t even think about leaving!"
He kicked at the demon, attempting to send it towards the incoming Moonlight Cross. But with a snap, ti stopped, and the drifting gray snowflakes halted in mid-air, the Moonlight Cross suspended motionlessly.
The demon turned around, grabbing Shard’s ankle, and swung him violently towards the ground. Shard, however, supported himself with one hand on the ground, using the force to break free from the demon’s grasp, then swiftly turned and slashed with his sword.
Crack!
The longsword was caught by the demon, which then forcibly snapped it:
"I told you, this thing is useless!"
But imdiately, it had to dodge Shard’s left hand wearing the [Demon Hunting Seal].
The demon’s left hand shot a black beam towards Shard’s left chest, but it was promptly blocked by the silver [Desecration Cross], the silver Moonlight Greatsword thrusting towards the demon’s throat, only to be parried effortlessly.
Seizing the chance while the demon checked the Moonlight Greatsword, Shard clenched his left hand with the ring, punching directly at the enemy in front of him. The demon didn’t dodge this ti, responding with a punch.
With a boom~ that exploded, Shard flew far away, rolling several tis on the ice before coming to a stop.
"If that Golden Potion of yours could last longer, maybe you’d really have a chance to gain the upper hand."
The demon looked at its hand, showing serious corrosion from contact with the [Demon Hunting Seal]:
"You don’t think that wearing that ring, you can truly hunt demons, do you... What are you doing?"
It saw Shard pounding with his fist to crack the ice and throwing sothing into it.
Panting heavily, Shard stood up on the ice, even as the magic potion’s effects wore off, his eyes still seed to glow:
"You don’t want to play gas with , huh? I once thought, what if a being stronger than you took Osenfort’s soul in advance."
With a smile on his face, he slowly backed away from the demon, further distancing himself from the hole he had smashed into the ice:
"I don’t know many Evil Gods, but I know other things. However, my nun friend discouraged . She thought Osenfort was just an ordinary man, like most in this world. I considered it and realized she was right, his desire wasn’t as strong as other bizarre individuals I’ve t, so I abandoned the idea of letting other beings claim his soul. Ston Osenfort is just a very diocre person."
A massive shadow slid beneath the ice between Shard and the shore demon, not even the firelight in the woodland along the shore could illuminate that shadow.
The Stone Mirror Demon: Goethe, instinctively sensed danger.
It squinted at Shard:
"What are you trying to say?"
"Do you know why I chose the last reward just now?"
Shard stopped his retreat, taking out the rolled-up note:
"Because I wanted to confirm once again, what exactly your attitude towards her was."
In that mont, Shard even felt his own heartbeat was louder than the distant roar of a giant beast. Deep into the night, the first event of this night was coming to a close:
"And I got a very clear answer, you are not as good as her."
"You can’t be—"
Since Shard t this demon, it was the first ti an expression of surprise appeared on the face belonging to Osenfort:
"You madman, you actually summoned..."
Crack!
In a clear shattering sound, the ice between Shard and the demon showed the first distinct rift. The rift bulged upward, as if sothing beneath the water wanted to break through the ice.
And the very next mont, a fierce earthquake made the entire Randall Valley Region rumble. Amidst that booming sound, in the firelight, amid the flying gray snowflakes, under the gaze of Shard and the demon, the entire Elon River’s downstream ice surface over nearly a kiloter shattered, a beautiful noble figure that could not be illuminated by any light, that enormous figure resembling a rmaid’s silhouette, leapt up from the ice, dancing with the snowflakes in the air, and then in an elegant manner, dove into another floating ice on the opposite side.
