Ding Long is not soone who is good with words. Even after many years of marriage, Ding Jinshi rarely heard sweet words from him. Ding Long’s affection wasn’t shown through his speech, but through his actions. Yet, precisely this one sentence made Ding Jinshi feel that, in this lifeti, it was enough for her to have received it.
Life lasts several decades; once passed, it’s truly gone.
Dozens of tis flowers bloom and fade, beauties of cities have gone, n’s heroism no longer shines. But for those who are happy, all this becos particularly irrelevant, as long as the person accompanying them is still the sa.
Because love doesn’t change.
In the hospital, an elderly woman with silvery hair lay on the hospital bed, the IV drip slowly flowing through the tubing into her body. These dicines are no longer enough to save this aged life. Unlike others facing death, the old lady on the bed, however, looked at her family beside her with a smile.
"Ding Long, how wonderful it is that I can leave this world before you, so I don’t have to endure a life without you. It’s hard for you, I tell you, you’re getting old too. Once I’m gone, you mustn’t go looking for other charming old ladies or trouble any young girls. I’ll be patiently waiting for you down there, so don’t hurry, spend more ti with our children. I rember what you said, that on the netherworld road you’ll hold and walk."
Because of her illness, her voice was sowhat weak and hoarse, but the smile on her face didn’t diminish in the slightest.
He no longer had the handsoness of his youth, yet the strength of his hand clasping hers never changed, nor did the tenderness in his smile, "Alright, as you say."
This life, for him, was too short.
He couldn’t stop the cycles of life and death, couldn’t stop her from eventually leaving him, but in the limited ti they had, he’d already had enough happiness.
Now, they have children and grandchildren, and from their marriage till now, they never had a real argunt, never blushed in anger. Every day seed to be filled only with laughter and joy.
He watched ti pass, saw their children grow up and start their own families and careers, watched her by his side as her black hair turned gray. Such a life, though brief, was more than enough.
With a smile, she closed her eyes, and this ti, she never opened them again. She was by his side, tightly holding his hand, and with his company, bid farewell to this world, her heart finally ceasing to beat.
In that final mont, Ding Jinshi thought that if there really is a next life, she hoped that she could spend all her lives with the man nad Ding Long.
"Your mother has passed, she went peacefully, so don’t be too sad," Ding Long looked at the children behind him, still smiling, but the pain and reluctance in his eyes could not be concealed.
Bringing his wife ho from the hospital, Ding Long personally changed her into her favorite clothes, applied her makeup with his own hands, and gently shaped her eyebrows with the brow pencil.
Ding Long rembered that Ding Jinshi loved beauty and pearls, so for decades, even if he occasionally saw beautiful clothes and jewelry in window displays, he would buy them for her, filling her life with endless surprises.
She lay quietly on the bed, just like she used to sleep beside him. Ding Long didn’t let the children keep vigil by the bed, choosing to accompany her alone, quietly.
This companionship was eternal.
Ding Long always rembered his vow: he would let her go first and bear the world without her. But he also rembered saying that he would closely follow her footsteps, that on the netherworld road, he would hold her and walk, not letting her be tired or suffer, and not letting her walk the journey of the next life alone.
