"I never said I can’t forget Lan Li, Dad. A daughter of the Ding Family wouldn’t stoop so low as to cling to Lan Li’s leg." Ding Jinshi replied coldly, her brow tightly furrowed, and then she said directly, "Dad, I don’t intend to live at ho. I plan to move out tomorrow and stay at Ding Long’s place first. After I get everything arranged at the office, the company will provide with accommodation."
Ding Jinshi’s stepmother looked startled, sowhat surprised. However, it was Ding Jinshi’s father who remained calm. He glanced at Ding Long, thought for a mont, and readily agreed, "Alright. But rember to co ho often. Even after moving out, you’re still my daughter."
Father Ding knew that Ding Long had a place near his company, a two-bedroom apartnt, with Ding Long occupying one room and Ding Jinshi the other. He didn’t dwell on what kind of reputation this might give a girl; he just felt at ease entrusting Ding Jinshi to Ding Long’s care. He even secretly hoped that spending so much ti together might spark sothing between them, ideally making Ding Long his son-in-law.
The ease of it all left Ding Jinshi in disbelief. Her father agreed just like that, without asking anything?
"By the way, I bought you a car as a graduation gift. It’s parked in the garage, and the keys are on the desk in the bedroom." Father Ding looked up at his daughter, "You’ve been abroad for a few years; you still rember how to drive, right?"
Ding Jinshi nodded, feeling that this hocoming was different from what she had imagined.
"Thanks, Dad," Ding Jinshi expressed her gratitude.
"If you forget how to drive, let Ding Long teach you." Father Ding laughed, "All the rascal kids in our compound started fiddling with cars at fourteen or fifteen. Especially Lin Chan—I rember once he was only fifteen or sixteen, right? Went to the army base and drove out one of their military vehicles, got chased all around. When he got back, his dad whipped him through the entire compound. It feels like just yesterday that you kids were causing trouble for the adults, and now you’ve all graduated from college and started working. Ti really flies, you all grew up in the blink of an eye, and we’re getting old."
Hearing her always stern father’s words tinged with lancholy suddenly, Ding Jinshi felt a pang in her heart.
She looked up at her father. After not seeing him for years, he indeed looked much older. She wasn’t sure if it was because he had too many worries or simply reached the age where one shows signs of aging.
"Dad, why don’t you and Aunt have a child? Whether it’s a brother or sister, at least soone will be there with you when I’m not ho." The words slipped out of her mouth.
Everyone at the table was stunned, especially Ding Jinshi’s stepmother, who was completely frozen.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Father Ding rebuked, "Having you as my child is enough."
"What about Aunt? By marrying you, she lost her chance to be a mother. That’s not fair to her. Dad, I know you’re doing it to protect , but I’ve grown up and don’t need that kind of protection anymore. Besides, you know my personality. Whether or not I get married in the future, I won’t stay at ho to take care of you and Aunt. So you should have a child with Aunt, soone more obedient than , to stay with you and take care of you both in your old age."
