Perhaps it’s because Gu Zhilan’s cousin said sothing to her that after that day, Gu Zhilan never gave as much money as before. My father waited a long ti but never saw Gu Zhilan bringing a piggy bank to again. Afterwards, my father changed his tune, cursing Gu Zhilan for having so much money at such a young age and not being more charitable.
At the ti, I was young and didn’t find my father’s curses all that ridiculous, but when I grew up, I felt how foolish my father’s words were.
Though Gu Zhilan never again poured a bowl full of money for like a simpleton, she often gave delicious things. For a long ti, I hardly needed to experience the pain of an empty stomach.
Yet, the better Gu Zhilan treated , the more wildly I envied everything she had.
I dreamt of becoming Gu Zhilan, daydreaming about how wonderful it would be if one day I turned into her!
But I never thought that one day, my dream would co true.
When Gu Zhilan disappeared into the crowd alone, I watched her figure gradually shrink and vanish, not realizing that her departure would an she forever left that little mansion I coveted in my dreams.
Gu Zhilan disappeared, people in the mansion searched for her day and night but could never find her. For a long ti, cries could be heard from that mansion anyti.
Every day, I sat by the street, secretly watching the changes in the Gu Family. I saw Gu Zhilan’s mother, that elegant and beautiful woman, increasingly looking like a madwoman on the streets, randomly hugging a child and calling out Zhilan’s na, ignoring the child’s struggles, taking them into the mansion until the child’s parents ca to take them back.
Watching the sa drama unfold in the Gu Family daily, a particularly daring idea began to erge in my mind. If I crossed the street toward her and called her mom in the tone that Zhilan used, would she take into that mansion?
This thought took root and rapidly sprouted in my heart. Finally, I took a step forward. When she appeared before once again, I rushed over, hugged her leg, and mimicking Zhilan’s coy tone, called out, "Mom~"
Just that call of mom fulfilled my wish to enter the Gu Family, to step into that splendid little mansion.
It was beautiful!
When I walked into this mansion, I was so amazed that I could hardly speak! This was the most beautiful and largest house I had ever seen.
I’m certain that no matter how the wind blows or the rain pours outside, there would be no drafts or leaks here. I liked it here!
I wasn’t afraid or surprised that Gu Zhilan’s grandparents and father recognized as the beggar across the street from their house. They asked why I was in their ho.
I feigned extre fear and cleverly used Zhilan’s tone to tell them, "Aunt brought in, I don’t know what she wants to do."
Listening to Gu Zhilan’s mother call out "Miss Zhilan, Miss Zhilan" nonstop made incredibly smug. See, Gu Zhilan, your mother doesn’t want you anymore!
When Gu Zhilan’s grandmother asked how old I was this year, I instinctively told them, I am six years old.
