The atmosphere in the Fei mansion had beco increasingly tense and chaotic.
After Fei Hua Jiang’s closely guarded secret was exposed, the rest of the family abruptly shifted allegiance and abandoned the first branch.
Fei Min’s blunder had caused a major setback for the entire family, leading to his father, Fei Yi Lang, being banned from entering the main mansion. The first branch, once the strongest in the Fei family, crumbled almost overnight, like a line of dominos toppling one after another.
And Fei Hua Jiang’s scandal was the final nail in the coffin for their branch.
Those who had initially supported them quickly jumped ship, abandoning their forr loyalties to pursue their own ambitions. Their hidden greed and aspirations were laid bare as they now coveted the position of power for themselves.
And so, the infighting began.
The relentless sches and drama within the family made Head Master Fei forget all about Fei Chuan and Bei Sangyun. With so much to manage within the family, he neither had the ti nor the energy to seek revenge on the two.
Besides, he wasn’t sure how to deal with them, nor was he given a chance to confront them again, as he was too occupied with keeping his family from falling apart.
In the midst of his busy days acting as a peacekeeper between the branches, Head Master Fei suddenly received surprising news from his butler.
"She’s at the gate? Was she alone?" Head Master Fei asked, incredulous.
"Yes, Head Master. She’s requesting to see you."
Head Master Fei instructed the butler to let Bei Sangyun in.
He was skeptical. Why had she co? Wasn’t she looking down on his family too much?
Did she really think she could treat this place like her personal playground, coming and going as she pleased? He could detain her and concoct several excuses for the public.
However, despite entertaining such thoughts, Head Master Fei simply didn’t have the ti to deal with another potential ss.
As he made his way to the drawing room, he saw the young woman sitting comfortably, sipping tea and eating refreshnts as if she were in her own ho. Head Master Fei’s expression soured.
"Aren’t you afraid I might have poisoned your drink?"
Bei Sangyun set down the now-empty cup. "I haven’t had much of an appetite at ho. Seeing free food reminded of my empty stomach. Besides, I believe you already have enough on your plate to worry about soone like ," she replied.
"Right. And it’s all thanks to you," Head Master Fei bitterly responded.
"If your family is capable of crumbling over sothing as simple as your grandson’s sexuality, it would surely fall for a much greater reason later on."
Head Master Fei shot Bei Sangyun a hard look. He wanted to argue, but her words rang true.
She was right. One flaw in the heir he had chosen, and everyone revealed their true colors.
If only his descendants could see the bigger picture and understand the damage they were causing through their greed, this family could stand strong and continue to grow.
But hearing these words from the very person who had upended his entire family made it all the more difficult for Head Master Fei to accept.
"Anyway, I’m not here to cause trouble. I have sothing to ask you," Bei Sangyun said, her words provoking a bitter laugh from Head Master Fei.
"I was wondering why you ca here, but now it turns out you need sothing from ? This is ridiculous. What makes you think I’ll answer your question, girl? After everything you’ve done to my family?"
"Because I believe that, despite everything, you still care for your grandson as his grandfather. But if you refuse to answer , you’ll only prove to —and to Fei Chuan—what kind of man you truly are."
Head Master Fei glared at Bei Sangyun. He had expected her to humble herself or at least show so regret in front of the man whose help she now needed. But she remained stubborn, even daring to challenge his integrity as a grandfather.
He had already been humiliated by his own grandson during their last eting; he didn’t need anyone else to humble him like that again.
Head Master Fei remained silent for a mont before finally speaking. "My answer will depend on what you’re asking. But let remind you, it was Fei Chuan who chose to leave the family, despite my offer of support. So if I’m reluctant to extend my help again, you should understand. However, my door is still open if he wishes to return. My offer still stands."
"Fei Chuan isn’t in any condition to consider your offer. And I wouldn’t recomnd he return to this family while your household is in a ss."
Bei Sangyun’s deanor suddenly shifted, her tone becoming more serious, not beating around the bush anymore. "I heard you once invited a great monk. Where does that person live?"
"The great monk?" Head Master Fei asked, surprised. "Why do you need to know about the great monk?"
He hadn’t expected her to be soone who believed in spiritual services and divination.
"...Just give his address."
"The great monk lives in seclusion and doesn’t wish to be disturbed unless absolutely necessary. He has unusual thods to know in advance if we need him. We’ve been warned not to share his location with anyone."
Bei Sangyun’s eyes grew cold. "I need his address now. This is about Fei Chuan."
Head Master Fei paused, his expression turning serious. "...Has his illness relapsed?"
"Grandma Pei ntioned that you summoned the great monk when Fei Chuan’s illness first relapsed. I need to know what you discussed with him and what he did. And..." Bei Sangyun hesitated, taking a deep breath, "I need to speak to him."
Head Master Fei’s expression grew grim. He had been there when Fei Chuan’s illness first relapsed, the image of his grandson slowly dying before his eyes still etched deeply in his mind.
Although Fei Chuan had turned his back on the Fei family, as his grandfather, he couldn’t bear the thought of witnessing his grandson suffering like that again.
"...I can give you the address of the great monk, but there’s no guarantee he’ll respond to you. Back then, he warned explicitly, and I followed his instructions. Fei Chuan was fine for many years, so I believed he had overco the illness, just as the monk predicted." Head Master Fei sighed heavily. "If his illness has relapsed, even if you search the entire world, no doctor will be able to help."
Bei Sangyun’s face darkened; she refused to accept that answer.
"Just tell the address. I’ll handle the rest my own way. And...tell what happened back then. Maybe I can find so clues."
Head Master Fei knew this wasn’t the ti for grudges. Setting aside his prejudices, he sat across from Bei Sangyun, his deanor calm. He began narrating the events, starting from the day Fei Chuan first received his fate reading.
.....
It was a night of heavy rain. A violent storm raged across the city, making the roads unsafe to traverse.
Anticipating such a scenario, the Fei family had prepared a room for the pregnant Mada, who was expected to give birth at any mont.
Given the Chuan family’s involvent, the birth of this child was of paramount importance to the Fei family.
Head Master Fei had invited the great monk beforehand, but the ssengers he sent returned with only a cryptic ssage:
"If it is destined to co, it will co."
Such mysterious words were typical of the great monk, so Head Master Fei hadn’t set high expectations for his arrival. And as the relentless rain continued to pour, he began to believe the monk wouldn’t co at all.
The woman’s cries from the delivery room echoed through the mansion for nine long hours until, at last, the cry of a newborn was heard.
At that very mont, the doors of the Fei family opened, and the great monk, drenched from head to toe, appeared.
Head Master Fei was already in a jubilant mood after the successful birth of his grandson. Seeing the great monk, who rarely appeared, only heightened his spirits.
He believed that his grandson must be special, destined to bring good fortune to the family, especially since the great monk had co personally to bless him.
But the words the great monk spoke shattered his belief entirely.
How could he possibly accept that his grandson, born with such difficulty, would die young?
However, the monk’s prophecy began to feel eerily true the day Fei Chuan’s illness first relapsed.
Like everyone else, Head Master Fei thought Fei Chuan was going to die, so he personally sought out the great monk.
After a long and arduous journey, he finally reached the mountain. To his surprise, the great monk, who resided at its peak, was already waiting for him at the foot.
"He stood there as if he knew I would co to seek him out that day. I begged him to help find a cure for my grandson. I was even prepared to bring a substantial donation for the temple and made countless promises, but the great monk wasn’t interested. He only said he wanted to see the red knot on my grandson, so he returned ho with ."
"...Red knot?" Bei Sangyun echoed, puzzled by the unfamiliar term.
"Like you, I wasn’t sure what he ant by it. I just assud he was perceiving things beyond my understanding."
Bei Sangyun nodded, urging Head Master Fei to continue.
"When he first examined Fei Chuan, he instructed everyone to leave the room except for . He then perford several rituals. When I asked him what he was doing, he told he was reading Fei Chuan’s fate."
