Chapter 2004: Assassin

Ah-Ye blew the bamboo whistle, its shrill tone echoing through the valley, piercing the clouds.

Regret gnawed at Qiao Xuan.

Never did she anticipate an assassination attempt on her husband. Her lapse in vigilance was unforgivable!

Had she been more vigilant, she would have detected the lurking assailants and dispatched them without hesitation.

Yet, all was not lost.

Thanks to the vast expanse of the flat valley, Qiao Xuan and her companions stood by the pond, a considerable distance from the hillside.

Even if the attackers mounted a surprise assault, they couldn’t materialize before them in an instant.

This granted Qiao Xuan an opportunity to retaliate.

Restrained by the distance and dense foliage, Qiao Xuan couldn’t afford bold actions. She had to proceed cautiously.

Consequently, Ah-Ye and the two guards, confronting a formidable foe, stood guard before their masters, refraining from initiating an attack. Helplessly, they witnessed as the fifteen assailants, who had leaped forth, were swiftly impeded by the terrain, stumbling over grass and rocks in the blink of an eye.

Screams pierced the air.

Qiao Xuan unleashed her full force without hesitation. She sent six assailants tumbling, intensifying her assault. The dense and resilient grass threatened to snap their ankles, while tiny thorns, ordinarily benign, transford into vicious projectiles, piercing their flesh.

Not only were Shao Yunduan and Ah-Ye dumbfounded by the agonizing cries, but the nine remaining attackers, too, faltered. They instinctively slowed their advance, casting bewildered glances at their fallen comrades.

The leader’s rebuke snapped them back to reality. With renewed focus, they disregarded their fallen allies, pressing forward with lethal intent.

Qiao Xuan lanted the swift approach of their assailants, realizing she had no choice but to relent, at least for the mont.

If the situation escalated to a life-or-death crisis, she would have to cast aside all restraint…

Yet, for Ah-Ye and his companions, the reduced enemy count provided a glimr of hope amidst the chaos.

Standing by the pond, with its vast expanse behind them acting as a natural barrier, the trio only needed to fend off the frontal assault, ensuring Lord and Madam’s safety.

If they could endure for just fifteen minutes—fifteen minutes at most—Sun Bai from the villa would surely arrive with reinforcents.

Ah-Ye’s gaze swept over the six fallen foes, their struggles futile. Relief flooded his heart as he silently prayed, “May the heavens be on our side!”

The injuries inflicted upon those six individuals proved unexpectedly severe. Not only did they suffer a loss of more than a third of their fighting capability, but their morale also took a significant hit.

Ah-Ye sensed a palpable stagnation in the killing intent emanating from the nine assailants who charged forward. It no longer bore the ferocity of their initial onslaught.

This shift in dynamics worked in his favor.

As the nine closed in, Ah-Ye’s lips curled into a cold smile. With a swift motion, he unsheathed his sword, a glint of silver flashing as he surged ahead.

Another guard followed suit, brandishing his own blade and joining the fray.

anwhile, the remaining guard stood steadfast, positioned protectively before Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan, vigilant against any potential attacks.

Ah-Ye showed no rcy, delivering a powerful kick that sent one of the assailants hurtling away. The unfortunate individual let out a blood-curdling scream as he crashed to the ground, his body convulsing in agony.

Though this tactic effectively sapped the enemy’s vitality, it also stoked their fury, bolstering their morale. It was evident that the assassins’ aura surged once more, fueled by indignation and determination.
