Chapter 555: Chapter 553: The Down-and-Out Centaur
“Halt, where are you from? This place is— it belongs to the Centaur Race, outsiders are not allowed to enter— Ah! Princess Angela?”
As it turned out, the small town did have its guards; a knight accompanied by two knight’s pages were patrolling.
Such a combination would have been comndable on Tidal Island, but here in the perilous underground world, should any intruder bearing ill will suddenly appear, they probably wouldn’t even have ti to sound the alarm.
After closing in at a trot, the middle-aged knight at the front recognized Angela.
“Yes, I am Angela Kasai.”
“How are you still alive?”
“What do you think?”
“Look at , I’m so happy I can’t even speak properly.”
The middle-aged knight, having confird the arrival of Angela, visibly relaxed, and without pondering further, he smiled kindly at the others as well, revealing an air of simple and honest local customs.
From Danny, Angela had learned who the protagonists of today’s wedding were, her younger brother Leowen.
This day was not only set for the wedding ceremony but also marked the day Leowen would take over as Clan Leader.
The people of the Danaila World typically married young, and by normal standards, Leowen should already have been wed. With this in mind, Angela and her companions made their way toward the castle at the rear of the town.
A modestly-sized, rustic castle was the current royal court of the Centaur Race.
The ancient patterns and mysterious motifs carved in various parts of the castle seed to tell the tale of the Centaur Race’s final twilight.
Ivan and his group walked at an unhurried pace and word had already reached the castle ahead of them; by the ti they arrived, the castle entrance was filled with people.
“The Centaur Race’s Clan Leader Tanli greets our esteed guest.”
As the head of the race, Clan Leader Tanli was not as unworldly as Knight Danny. He noticed sothing unusual about Ivan from the first glance and hurriedly ca forward to pay his respects in a trembling manner.
In contrast to the shrewd Clan Leader, the other Centaurs were much slower on the uptake.
The greeting ceremony was scattered, with so standing there dazed as if they hadn’t heard their own Clan Leader’s words.
After all, the Centaurs had been living in a peaceful environnt for so long that they had lost their reverence for the powerful.
This made Angela frown deeply, and she quickly gave Ivan a pleading look.
Of course, Ivan was not one to fuss over such things; he wasn’t the type to make a scene, and it wasn’t worth it to argue with so ignorant Centaurs.
Angela’s father was an old man, weak and frail.
As the Centaur Clan Leader, he possessed only Level 3 strength, and he had been injured for a long ti without healing, which made him appear much older than he actually was, his body almost spent.
Next to him stood a pale-faced young man, presumably Angela’s brother, Leowen.
Leowen had only recently entered into the rank of Earth Knight.
Both father and son bore injuries, yet they still had to shoulder the great responsibility of the Centaur Race. This clearly illustrated the current dismal state of the Centaurs, just as Angela had said, it was likely that they would vanish from the underground world within a few years.
“There’s no need for such formalities; Angela is now with .”
Watching Tanli, who was sincerely anxious before him, Ivan knew what he feared and spoke in a gentle voice, with Angela nodding in agreent beside him.
His words were like a breath of spring breeze, carrying an invisible force that swiftly soothed the fear in Tanli’s heart.
“I see. If I may ask boldly, are you from the human race?”
Compared to the soon-to-be Clan Leader Leowen, Tanli was a competent Clan Leader.
“Sorcerer Ivan Marichardon,” Ivan said.
“Father, Ivan is also a knight about to be promoted to Knight King,” Angela added.
“Knight King—good, very good!”
The long-absent title of Knight King imdiately stirred deep emotions in Tanli; the Centaur Race hadn’t seen a true Centaur King for many years, and the title was nearly forgotten.
“Pfft! Who knows if it’s even true?”
At that mont, an irritating voice abruptly rose, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
“Shut it, Lucas!” Tanli glared at the speaker.
“Clan Leader Tanli, you really have beco senile; you believe anything you’re told. Who knows if this human pretty-boy is soone Angela brought in from outside, just to fool us all. Don’t think you can do whatever you want just because you’ve returned from a trip.”
Lucas was a middle-aged Flying Knight, nearly as strong as Clan Leader Tanli. Given Tanli’s unrecovered injuries, Lucas’s actual combat power was certainly greater.
Lucas was the last person pleased with Angela’s return.
“Hmph!”
His words undoubtedly provoked the rage of the others, but before anyone else could react, a cold snort resounded.
The sound clearly reached many ears, striking Lucas first. Under the impact of an invisible force, his whole world turned dark, even the noise vanished without a trace.
The others were struck as if by lightning.
Arcane wizards are not to be insulted lightly; that saying isn’t ant just for others to hear.
“Master, please calm your anger, please calm your anger! Lucas is just a frog in a well, he only resents as the Clan Leader, he surely ant no offense to you, Master. Please, for Angela’s sake, forgive our Centaur race this once.”
Lucas’s eyes turned white, blood flowing from his orifices, and other disrespectful tribe mbers were more or less punished. The scene nearly petrified Tanli.
Not even the Knight King was this terrifying!
After snapping back to reality, Tanli quickly knelt to beg for rcy, fearing that if he were just a bit slower, the Centaur Race would vanish into smoke and dust.
Unlike the previous greeting, this ti the Centaurs were extrely orderly, one after another they knelt in panic, following their Clan Leader in begging for rcy, except for the still unconscious Lucas.
“Very well! In consideration of Angela, I will overlook your rude behavior just this once. Rember, such an incident is allowed only once; there will not be a second ti.”
Ivan glanced at Angela and spared this group with inconsistent attitudes.
Originally, Angela had wanted him to reprimand and discipline this group of Centaurs, and naturally, he had no interest in ddling more than necessary. He certainly hadn’t expected soone to leap out and court death; that changed the situation.
“Thank you, Master, thank you, Master.”
“Master, rest assured, such a thing will absolutely not happen a second ti. If there is a next ti, kill or cut as you please, Tanli and the others will have no complaints whatsoever.”
Hearing his words, Tanli felt as if he’d received a great pardon, quickly speaking out to guarantee it.
Tanli had no doubt that the other could effortlessly exterminate the entire Centaur Race, such a powerful individual must not be offended.
Ivan remained noncommittal.
“Lily, help your father down,” Tanli then ordered a girl behind Leowen, the girl turned out to be the other main character of the wedding.
“But—”
“Go!”
After the recent incident, Tanli’s authority was sowhat restored, and the dazed Lucas was quickly taken away.
Tanli respectfully welcod Ivan into the castle, bringing the farce to an end.
