The ground was still smoldering.

Faint embers floated in the air like fireflies, soft against the night, but they couldn't warm the hollow ache left behind. Selene lay still in Cain's arms—unconscious, but breathing.

Cain crouched low, his wings folded tightly around her like a shield. His jaw clenched, eyes rimd red with exhaustion and sothing deeper: fear.

"She overexerted herself," Aelira said softly, kneeling beside them. Her hands glowed faintly as she checked Selene's pulse. "Her body isn't ant to channel that much raw power... not yet."

Cain looked at his mother. "She did it to protect us."

"She loves you," Aelira whispered, brushing a strand of hair from Selene's face. "That's what makes her stronger than any of us."

Behind them, Leo kicked a scorched tree stump, frustration radiating off him like heat. "This is a ss. We almost had him. He was right there."

"And yet we didn't," Eren added, arms crossed, his voice calr than usual but tense. "He's stalling. He wants sothing."

Cain nodded. "Us."

They all fell silent for a mont.

The Devil's words had been haunting—soft, manipulative, and strangely filled with a twisted sense of sincerity. But that didn't erase what he had done. What he had let happen.

Selene stirred slightly. Her fingers twitched, curling into Cain's shirt as though sensing his presence even in sleep. Cain lowered his forehead to hers, whispering, "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere."

From the edge of the battlefield, Aelira stood slowly, watching the horizon. "We don't have much ti. If he cos again... it won't be with speeches."

"And if we don't co back from it?" Eren asked quietly.

Leo gave a weak smirk. "Then at least we go down like legends."

Cain didn't smile. His eyes were locked on Selene.

"She's not dying. Not now. Not ever. I won't lose her."

Aelira turned back to her sons, eyes fierce. "Then you need to prepare—not just your strength, but your hearts. If you go in with fear and fractured trust, he'll break you. You are his blood. But you are my sons. Fight for each other. For her."

The brothers nodded.

They set up a shelter nearby, a glowing protective barrier humming around them. That night, the stars shimred unnaturally. Even the sky seed unsure of what was coming.

Inside the protective do, Selene finally woke—slowly, groggily. Cain was the first thing she saw.

Her voice was raspy. "Did I... did I hurt anyone?"

"No," he whispered, brushing his thumb over her cheek. "You saved us."

"I couldn't control it," she murmured, ashad. "I thought I was strong enough—"

Cain stopped her with a kiss—soft, slow, full of promise.

"You are," he whispered. "But we're stronger together."

She clung to him, tears pooling in her eyes. "I'm scared, Cain. I don't want to lose you."

"You won't," he promised. "Not now. Not ever."

From across the clearing, Eren watched quietly. Leo sat beside him, tossing a small fla between his hands.

"You still thinking about Dad's words?" Eren asked.

Leo stared into the fire. "Yeah. I don't know what scares more... what he's capable of, or the fact that part of still wants to believe him."

Eren didn't answer. He just placed a hand on Leo's shoulder. "We're in this together. No matter what."

Sowhere far beyond the trees, the Devil stood on a mountain ledge, watching the glowing shield where his family hid. His eyes burned with a complicated sorrow.

"They've grown," he whispered to the shadows. "Stronger than I expected."

A cloaked figure stepped beside him. "They'll never join you."

He smirked. "Then I'll make them."

The crackling of a small fire was the only sound for a while.

Selene sat quietly, still pale, her hands wrapped around a warm mug of herbal tea Aelira had brewed. She didn't speak much—just leaned against Cain, drawing strength from his steady presence. He hadn't left her side since she'd collapsed, and it was clear to everyone that his heart had chosen long ago.

Eren broke the silence, twirling a twig in the fire. "So... what now? We lick our wounds, or we actually make a plan?"

Leo chuckled bitterly. "We've made a hundred plans, and he always stays one step ahead. Maybe it's ti we stop playing by his rules."

Cain looked up. "aning?"

"aning," Leo said, standing, "we set a trap. Not with brute force. But with our minds. He wants us angry, reckless. So we give him calm and calculated instead."

Eren smirked. "I like it when you pretend you're the smart one."

"Shut up," Leo grinned, tossing a pebble at him.

Despite the tension, a small laugh bubbled up from Selene's throat.

"I missed this," she whispered.

"What?" Cain asked, brushing his fingers through her hair.

"You guys being crackheads," she said with a teary smile. "It makes everything feel less heavy."

Cain smiled. "We're a disaster with supernatural powers."

"And matching trauma," Eren added.

"Don't forget the devil daddy issues," Leo grinned.

Selene laughed again—harder this ti, and Cain kissed her temple. For a mont, they were just people again. A girl, three brothers, and their worn-out mother, sitting in the dark with nothing but hope holding them together.

Aelira spoke then, her voice low but firm. "The bloodline is shifting."

They turned to her.

"What do you an?" Cain asked.

She stared into the fire. "When you awakened your powers... you were just tapping into pieces. But now, with Selene's awakening, sothing changed. The balance. The bonds between you. It's ancient, older than your father or . A bond ant to end this cycle."

Eren frowned. "A bond?"

Aelira nodded. "You three are more than just his sons. You were born with a purpose—to be the sword that cuts his legacy short. Selene is the key. Not because of power, but because she anchors your humanity."

Selene stared at her. "?"

Cain squeezed her hand. "Always you."

Leo stood, pacing now. "So what? We march into hell and cut him down?"

Eren stood too. "We need allies. We can't do this alone."

"I'll reach out to the Ashen Circle," Aelira said. "They owe ."

Cain looked at Selene. "And we train. You and . Every day. Because I know he'll co for you again."

Selene nodded, fierce now. "Then let him co."

As the fire dimd and dawn touched the horizon, the air shifted. Sothing unseen and ancient stirred in the trees. The Devil, from his perch, smiled faintly. "Let the pieces fall. The end is near."
