The good weather has held, so I head out to turn in my high-grade herbs.

“Ms. Zoe, this will promote you to Copper-rank,” Lena says.

I hand over my Iron adventurer plate and receive a new Copper one from her.

I did it! I sohow managed to make it to Copper-rank before spring.

“Um, can I sell furs and magic stones here, too?” This is important! It’s not that I care about being an adventurer—I just want the money.

“Of course, but it might be better if you didn’t do it out here. Also, if you have any high-grade herbs, I’d be very interested in purchasing them!”

Lena’s enthusiasm is a little intense. She ushers into a small room behind the reception desk.

It seems she’s wary of doing sothing unconventional. I wouldn’t do that!

“First, the monster furs and magic stones!”

Pretending to take them from my wicker basket, I pull out about ten furs. Then I produce a jingling bag filled with magic stones.

“Phew, I’m glad we didn’t do that out at the front desk,” Lena sighs.

These are winter pelts, so I’m expecting a high price!

“Could you give about an hour to calculate the paynt?”

It seems that even though I tried to hold back, it was still a bit too much for the Carlton guild to handle.

“Sure, I’ll go get sothing to eat and co back!”

“Show this token at the desk, and they’ll let you back in.”

It seems I’ll be receiving my paynt in here, too. The world is a dangerous place, full of idiots, after all.

I could just teleport back to the cabin, but maybe I’ll use this free ti to make my way to Raymond City.

Selina still won’t tell where the Waymarks are, so I have to get there on my own.

Hmm? This could be good exercise for Noah, couldn’t it?

I was planning on just teleporting repeatedly to get to Raymond City, but horses need exercise, after all.

I asked Selina, but she’s beco one with the sofa and isn’t very reliable. Plus, it’ll be good practice for my riding.

“I’ll eat lunch at the diner, deliver so high-grade herbs to the old apothecary, and then once I get my paynt, I’ll head to Raymond City with Noah!”

I eat a delicious stew at the diner and then sell my high-grade herbs at the apothecary on a back street.

I wonder if the calculation is done by now?

Once I get my money, I probably won’t be coming to the Carlton Adventurers’ Guild much anymore. I should give Lena sothing for all her help.

Oh, right, she wanted high-grade herbs, didn’t she? But that’s not really a thank-you gift.

I search through my Storage, but furs and magic stones are things I sell. And buying her sothing here in Carlton just doesn’t feel right.

“Oh, well! I’ll just thank her properly!”

I don’t know the first thing about getting along with people. Selina isn’t exactly a social butterfly, either.

Am I cold-hearted? But then again, this is just a professional relationship, so maybe this is fine.

Would Almiraj at make her happy?

I have plenty in my Storage. A few pieces are already wrapped in Lulu leaves.

I’ll be sure to tell Maggie that I’m moving to Raymond City, and I do want to see her from ti to ti.

Once spring cos, Maggie will finish her apprenticeship and start working at her family’s general store. I’ll go sell her so herbs and furs every now and then! Even if the prices are a little lower.

Back at the guild, I show the token Lena gave to the receptionist, and I’m shown into the back room.

Lena is sitting there at a desk with a paynt form, looking a little tired.

“The calculation is complete. Please confirm.”

I take the form and look it over.

Wow, the magic stones really are worth one hundred copper each! With twenty of them, that’s twenty crowns!

And I was holding back when I handed them over. I have over a hundred more in my Storage. I’m rolling in it!

I also avoided turning in any furs from large monsters. Just ten Almiraj pelts! But since it’s winter, they’re extra fluffy.

“The pelts were in excellent condition, so we were able to offer you a high price.”

Oh! Fifty pennies for a single Almiraj fur!

I think the general store only gave thirty. Was I getting ripped off?

No, the tailor in Carlton gave forty. Is it a rural vs. town thing? Or just a seasonal price difference?

Twenty-four silver crowns! I’m so happy!

“Um, would you be willing to sell so high-grade herbs?”

Lena has been so helpful to !

I take twenty high-grade herbs out of my Storage via my wicker basket and turn them in.

“Such high-quality herbs… and in the middle of winter…”

I hope that serves as a proper thank-you gift. She seems very happy.

“Thank you so much, Ms. Zoe!”

On top of that, she gives a great price for them. It’s even higher than the back-alley apothecary. He gave eighty pennies for ten, or one hundred in the winter.

Here, I’m getting one hundred and ten for ten! Two hundred and twenty pennies for twenty!

But I like the old apothecary. He’s kind, so I don’t mind paying less.

“Starting this spring, I plan to work out of Raymond City. Thank you for all your help, Lena. Here’s so Almiraj at.”

With one last thank-you and a gift, I leave the Carlton Adventurers’ Guild behind.

“Alright, ti to ride to Raymond City!” I say with determination.

But first, I have to go pick up Noah from the cowshed! And I should probably ask a gatekeeper which way Raymond City is.

I an, I know it’s not in the direction of Lang Village, but there are three different roads leading out of Carlton…

And yep, turns out the road I had in mind leads to a different village.

So glad I asked!
