"Uncle Dai, Aunt Fu!"
Li Huan was dumbfounded to see them. She had no idea how the two had ended up at Su Qing’s house.
The visitors were none other than Dai Xiangguang and Fu Zhen. They had discovered that Su Qing was the one who had used her ginseng to save Mrs. Dai’s life at the Friendship Store. They had also found her address and imdiately ca to visit, gifts in hand.
Neither of them had expected to see Li Huan here. The Li family and the Dai Family both lived in the sa large compound, so they were naturally familiar with each other.
"Little Huan, what are you doing here...?" Fu Zhen glanced at the courtyard, then back at Li Huan. She hadn’t heard that the Li family had bought a courtyard ho outside the compound. ’Did we knock on the wrong door?’
"Oh, this is my friend’s house," Li Huan said quickly.
"Li Huan, is your friend nad Su Qing?" Dai Xiangguang asked hurriedly.
Li Huan nodded. "Yes."
Just then, Su Qing, noticing Li Huan hadn’t returned after opening the gate, ca out and asked, "Li Huan, who is it?"
Li Huan quickly replied, "Su Qing, it’s Uncle Dai and Aunt Fu from our compound. I think they’re here to see you."
Su Qing was puzzled. "Here to see ?"
As she spoke, Su Qing had already reached the gate. The two people looked unfamiliar to her, so she said, "You’re looking for ? I don’t believe we’ve t."
"You must be Su Qing, right?" Dai Xiangguang said with a smile. "A few days ago, at the Friendship Store, you used ginseng to save an elderly woman. Do you rember?"
Hearing Dai Xiangguang’s words, Su Qing rembered the old woman who had collapsed at the Friendship Store that day. ’I didn’t leave any information at the ti, but they still managed to find .’ Then, recalling that Li Huan said they lived in the sa compound as the Li family, Su Qing realized they must be people of so consequence.
After all, Su Qing knew a little about the Li family.
Su Qing nodded.
Dai Xiangguang smiled. "That was my mother. Thank you so, so much. The doctor told that if it weren’t for the ginseng you gave her to keep her alive, she probably wouldn’t have made it to the hospital. Thank you so much."
Beside him, Fu Zhen also offered her sincere thanks. "We’re incredibly grateful."
"Please, co in and sit." Su Qing smiled and nodded at Dai Xiangguang and his wife. ’Since they’ve already co all this way, I can’t just leave them standing at the gate.’
Li Huan, standing to the side, was stunned. ’What’s going on?’ She quietly asked Su Qing, "You saved soone a few days ago?"
"It was nothing," Su Qing whispered back.
Once inside the courtyard, Dai Xiangguang and Fu Zhen found themselves quite taken with the decor. Fu Zhen smiled at Su Qing and said, "This is a wonderful courtyard."
Su Qing smiled. "Thank you. I’m very fond of it myself."
When they reached the main hall, they all sat down. While Su Qing was in the kitchen getting tea and snacks, Fu Zhen whispered to Li Huan, "Little Huan, you and Su Qing are friends?"
Li Huan nodded. "Yes, we’re good friends."
Fu Zhen understood. ’It’s still early, and from the looks of it, Li Huan must have spent the night here. People don’t usually stay over at soone’s house unless they’re very close.’ She knew Li Huan well—the girl was simple-minded and kind-hearted. And now, considering Su Qing had saved her mother-in-law, Fu Zhen’s impression of her improved even more.
Dai Xiangguang and Fu Zhen had co specifically to thank Su Qing, so they had brought many gifts. Su Qing tried to refuse, but couldn’t, so she had no choice but to accept them.
"Is the elderly lady doing well?" Su Qing asked.
"She’s out of danger. She just needs a little more ti to recover before she can be discharged," Fu Zhen said with a smile. "My mother-in-law has been asking us these past few days if we’d found you yet. She knows you saved her and has been wanting to thank you in person, but her health doesn’t permit it right now. When we ca over today, she insisted we express her gratitude on her behalf."
"It was nothing. If anyone else had happened to have ginseng on them that day, they wouldn’t have stood by and done nothing either. I just did what anyone else would have done," Su Qing said with a smile.
"Regardless, that ginseng was incredibly valuable. For you to use it on a stranger... we are just so grateful," Dai Xiangguang said. "The thank-you gifts we brought today are nowhere near enough to express our appreciation. If you ever run into any trouble and need my help, I will absolutely not refuse."
"Thank you, Uncle Dai," Su Qing said with a smile.
Dai Xiangguang and Fu Zhen stayed for a little while longer, but since they had to get to work, they soon stood up to leave.
After the Dai couple left, Li Huan said to Su Qing, "Su Qing, you’re really amazing. Most people wouldn’t be so willing to part with such high-quality ginseng."
"It was a matter of life and death," Su Qing replied calmly.
"That’s true," Li Huan nodded. "Grandma Dai is a very nice person. It’s a good thing she ran into you, or it would have been really dangerous."
Since it was still early, Su Qing and Li Huan’s plans didn’t change, and they headed out as originally scheduled. What Su Qing didn’t know, however, was that certain people had learned of her arrival in Beijing.
Li Yuan had the day off, so she planned to return to the compound and try to get on Mrs. Li’s good side again. Although Mrs. Li was very cold to her, Li Yuan hadn’t given up hope of changing her grandmother’s attitude toward her.
After entering the compound, Li Yuan thought for a mont, then went to Li Huan’s ho to find Shang Yuqi.
"Sister-in-law, are you busy today?" Li Yuan asked with a smile upon arriving at Li Huan’s house.
"Not too bad. What brings you here today?" Shang Yuqi asked with a smile.
"Well, I wanted to go back to Mom and Dad’s, but as you know, Mom seems to have a problem with . So, I was hoping you could co with to give so moral support," Li Yuan said with a grin, putting on a slightly pitiful expression.
Shang Yuqi sighed softly at her words. ’I don’t know why my mother-in-law can’t seem to warm up to her only daughter. She’s always so indifferent, which makes Li Yuan so timid around her. Even I, as the daughter-in-law, can hardly bear to watch it. But, I’m just a daughter-in-law, so it’s not my place to criticize her.’
So, Shang Yuqi said, "Don’t bla Mom. Things will get better if you just spend more ti with her."
"That’s why I ca today since I have the day off. I was hoping you could keep company if you’re not busy," Li Yuan said to Shang Yuqi with a smile.
"Alright." Shang Yuqi had nothing else to do, so she agreed.
Seeing that Shang Yuqi was the only one in the house, Li Yuan asked curiously, "Is Little Huan out sowhere?"
"That kid... she didn’t co ho last night. She stayed over at a friend’s house," Shang Yuqi replied with a smile.
"Oh, she stayed at a friend’s?" Li Yuan had never known Li Huan to have a sleepover at any friend or classmate’s house before. She couldn’t help but ask, "Which friend? They must be really close."
"The one she t in the Northeast. I think her na is Su Qing or sothing," Shang Yuqi said casually.
CRASH! Li Yuan had just poured herself a glass of water and was about to take a drink when her hand went slack, and the glass fell to the floor.
