*Rion*
Guilt weighed down as I trudged to the bedroom.
Daphne looked up from the bed and smiled at . “Did you catch up with Eva?”
“Yeah.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I wasn’t there to protect her....”
I didn’t have to say anymore. Daphne hopped up to wrap her arms around . The soft warmth of her body against mine was an intoxicating salve. She kissed my cheek and my neck, and soon our lips found each other.
We gently fell into the bed. Her mouth opened for and I ran my fingers along her gentle curves. I didn’t know how long Daphne and I would last, but she was with at that mont, and that was all that mattered for the ti being.
She wrapped her arms around and I felt the tension in my body ease away. I fell asleep to the gentle rustle of her breath next to my ear.

*Daphne*
Eva and Rion spent most of the next day talking to each other. I left them alone. They had over a decade to catch up on and I knew that wouldn’t be a short task. I spent the day to myself, reading the books Katheryn made available.
I had lost track of ti when in the late afternoon, there was a knock on the bedroom door. I got off the bed, my eyes bleary from reading, and opened the door. It was Rion.
“Do you have plans for tonight?” he asked.
I gave him a dubious look.
“I want to take you sowhere.”
“Where?” I asked.
“It’s a surprise.”
There was a mischievous glint in his eyes that I was relieved to see. He’d been so distraught the night before. I could tell he was feeling much better now.
I followed him out of the room. The crew was drinking at the tables again and Eva was with Katheryn, talking and laughing.
Rion walked over to Eva and said, “You’ll be safe here with Katheryn. She and the boys are going to take care of you tonight.”
Eva nodded and smiled. She looked relaxed and happy as well.
“Have fun,” Eva said to as if she already knew what Rion had planned.
I gave her a quizzical look, but Rion took my arm after he caught the car keys from Katheryn.
“Co on,” he said.
“Are you going to tell where we’re going?” I asked as we got in the car.
“We’re going to dinner,” he said after he buckled up and started the engine.
He drove us down the hill from Katheryn’s inn, and soon we were on a busy highway. It was strange how normal everything felt after being away from civilization for so long.
The twilight sky burned a deep purple and lted into a hazy pink on the horizon, where I saw a cluster of tents in the distance. He drove off the main road and into the grass parking lot near them.
“Katheryn told the fair was in town and I figured, why not?” he said as he unbuckled his belt.
I was speechless.
He looked at . “Let’s make our last mories count.”
He reached for my hand and I took his. We walked across the grass parking lot and the closer we got, the more I beca delighted by the sll of deep-fried food and confectioner’s sugar.
I relaxed and let all of the dazzling, blinking lights, the loud music blaring from a carousel in the center, and the roaring rush of a roller coaster take over my senses.
Rion held my hand securely as we walked through the crowds. Our first ride was the roller coaster. The rush of cold air through my hair made feel alive, and having Rion by my side made feel like we could do anything together.
Afterward, we went on the carousel and then sat on a bench in front of it to eat. I watched as he scarfed down his funnel cake, and I laughed. We looked at each other and I held his gaze as long as I could.
As we walked off the food, my eyes landed on a man tattooing people.
“I want a tattoo,” I said without even thinking.
“What?” Rion gave a curious look. “Those things hurt, and they are permanent.”
“I know... I might never see you again after this. I want sothing that I can keep with forever to rember you by,” I explained.
I watched his eyes dance with unspoken emotions as I led the way to the tattoo artist.
Sitting in the chair, I said, “I want a flower on the back of my shoulder.”
The man nodded, tossed a book with different flower designs to choose from, and flicked the ash from his cigarette before he readied his supplies for .
Rion sighed and looked worried but pulled up a chair next to . I held my hand as the needles seared my flesh. He was very right about it hurting. I watched the sunset as he worked, and the lights of the fair slowly ca on by the ti he finished.
The final result was a delicate tattoo of a white orchid against a full moon.
“I love it,” I said.
Rion paid the tattoo artist.
“Co on, we need to get so real food,” he suggested.
We walked to a place away from the busiest part of the fair toward old restaurants. We took a seat in the least crowded one, which served delicious comfort food.
After we ordered, there was a small silence between us. As I pretended to study the condensation building up on the side of my glass, I knew there was no way to avoid what was coming next. Judging by his awkward silence, he knew it too.
“So, we’ll be parting ways after Katheryn gets her reward money,” he said. “I’m surprised you’d want anything to remind you of all of this.”
I sighed as a sense of sadness washed over . “When I first realized that I could see your mories, it made believe our being together was fated by the Moon Goddess.”
His eyes widened and I could tell he was surprised by that. “Really?”
“It’s hard to explain.”
“You think we might be fated mates?”
“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I may never know after we part ways... But, it’s a connection that I can’t ignore or forget. Whatever it ans, it’s important, maybe for no other reason than it ant saving Eva’s life.”
He let out a long slow breath.
“Daphne, you really are an amazing woman. I will forever owe you a debt that I could never repay.”
The waiter brought our food and the conversation changed to how good the food was.
He drove us back to the inn. The highway was lit with streetlamps on either side that rhythmically got brighter and dimr as we approached and passed each one. I watched the light play tricks on the folds of my coat to distract myself from my feelings.
I held his hand. I was going to miss him, but I knew it was best for him to take his sister far away so the two of them could live the peaceful life they always wanted and very much deserved.
We got back to the inn and went back to our room. A tense energy built between us as we shut off the noise and bustle of the inn. Rion looked at for a long ti, as if he was trying to morize every detail of my face.
I felt a little bit of a blush tint my cheeks and leaned into him, kissing away the last of whatever was holding us back from being with each other.
He returned the kiss with a searching passion, as he softly trailed over my arms and around my back. I hooked my arms around his neck, pressing into him. I could not suppress a moan of desire that spilled from my lips and beca muffled in his mouth.
My body felt electric, responding eagerly to his touch as his kisses beca deeper, and he carefully guided onto the bed.
He ran his hand through my hair as he lay on top of and kissed . All I could think of was the warmth of his fingers as they ran through my hair and the softness of his lips on mine.
Rion’s lips moved to my neck, nibbling and kissing their way down to my collarbone. His hands trailed down to my breasts, teasing and pinching my nipples until they were hard and swollen.
I arched my back, pressing myself closer to him as I felt a warm pooling into my core.
“This is my first ti,” I whispered.
He pulled away and looked in the eye. “Okay. I’ll be gentle.”
He rubbed my chin with the pad of his thumb and went in to kiss again, that ti more tenderly. I relished every mont our lips touched, every mont of skin-on-skin contact.
He pecked my cheek and made his way to my ear, where he kissed it and whispered, “What do you like?”
“I just want to rember my last night with you.”
His fingers gently closed around the back of my neck, causing the nape of my neck to burst into waves of euphoria trickling throughout my whole body. He kissed again, his tongue tangling with mine with a fiery passion that left breathless.
He gently removed pieces of my clothing between kisses. I knew he was hungry for what lay underneath, but he still took his ti. His eyes t mine, silently asking if he could proceed, and I let him.
His hands lovingly smoothed over the curves of my breasts and my hips as they made their way down where he could gently tease with his finger. He bent down to kiss as he played between my silky folds. I moaned softly as the heat between us intensified.
Rion pulled closer, pressing his hard body against mine and causing a delicious friction. My hands found their way to his hair, tugging on the strands as his lips moved down my neck and over my body. I gasped as he found my sweet spot, licking and sucking until I was aching with desire.
My body shivered as I gave into the sensation, letting myself be consud by the passion that we shared. His gaze t mine and silently begged to enter until neither of us could stand the tension any longer.
I let him open my legs and he positioned himself between my thighs. His hardness gently pressed into my entrance, filling up in a way that no one else ever had.
The world outside ceased to exist as we beca lost in each other, our bodies moving together in a dance of lust and desire. Nothing else mattered, only the two of us and the pleasure we brought each other.
Our limbs were entwined in a dance of desire as he pressed deeper and deeper into . I lost myself in the mont. As his thrusts grew faster, my mind lted and soon my body followed until I could not distinguish between him and .
I felt my body convulse in a climax that was soon joined by his. We were one as we soared into a heavenly oblivion together. We stayed in that cloud, my mind in a haze, as my fingers gently coiled in his hair. He lay on top of , his breath a soft brush against my bare skin.
My mind slowly lted into a peaceful sleep.
