*Sasha*

I kept in contact with Lena, letting her know what my plans were. Before leaving the capital, she asked to keep her posted about her cousin.

“I can’t believe you found him and that you got through to him.”

“Well, I don’t know if I got through to the Lucas of this world. I just got my Lucas’s mories back. But he did try to save , even though he didn’t seem interested in as a mate.”

“That’s incredible.” Lena gasped. “And it’s a good sign. Are you two headed back to your own tiline now?”

“Not yet. There are still a few things to smooth over. We’re going to see my mother now.”

“Alright, take care of yourself, Sasha.”

Lena and I ended our call and I t back up with Lucas. He managed to get a car for us, and we were off to et with my mom.

“I hope the Lucas of this world and Maeve can reconnect. I know my relationship with my mother isn’t the greatest but... it is better than theirs, and I don’t want my relationship with her to be worse.”

“That would be nice.” I rested my head on his shoulder.

“What did Lena have to say?”

“She’s happy I found you and that I got your mories back before the Lucas from this world did sothing he’d regret.”

Lucas chuckled and put his arm around my shoulders, hugging close.

When we got to my mother’s house, she was already waiting for us. She stood on the porch and smiled, waving as we got out of the car.

“Sasha, Lucas, I’ve been expecting you. I made so lunch.” She beckoned us inside.

“You were expecting us?” I glanced at Lucas.

He shrugged and headed inside.

“Yes, White Queen Lena called ahead to let know. She’s very anxious over the two of you.”

“She is?”

We went into the kitchen and convened at the kitchen table, where my mom laid out sandwiches, a fruit salad, so lemonade, and crackers and cheese.

“She told so interesting things about the two of you being from a different tiline. I don’t know what to believe.” My mother sighed and shook her head.

“We don’t have to talk about that if it is too confusing.” I reached across the table and took her hand. “Actually, Lucas and I had so specific questions.”

My mom arched an eyebrow. “Oh?”

“Well, I was wondering what happened to my powers.”

My mom frowned and gave a confused look. “Your powers?”

“Yes. My magical powers as a dream dancer–what happened to them? Did you have soone block them or take them away?”

Her frown deepened. “Sasha, what are you talking about?”

I looked at Lucas. He seed concerned, too. If my mother didn’t know about my powers, then the Sasha of this world could be in serious trouble. Who else would have answers for us?

“Okay... in my tiline, I have dream dancer powers. My mother in that tiline used magic to keep my father’s pack from finding because of my dream dancer gifts. Does any of that sound familiar?”

I worried that bringing up the alternate tiline again would confuse her more. She tapped her fingers on the table in a wave, the thwump, thwump sound filling the kitchen.

“Honey, as far as I know, you weren’t born with any powers. I’ve never heard of a dream dancer or anything like that.”

“Really?” I grimaced.

“That doesn’t seem likely. In every tiline we’ve been in, Sasha’s had the sa powers, whether she knows about them or not. In this reality, she wasn’t able to access them at all like they were blocked or gone.”

“Then it sounds like she wasn’t born with them,” my mother said.

“Do you think it is possible, Lucas? I did try to use them and they just weren’t there.”

“No, I don’t think it is possible. The orbs are activated by your power and they are usable in every tiline. It wouldn’t make sense that there isn’t a dream dancer here.”

“Then maybe soone else was born with that power.”

Lucas shook his head. “I don’t think that’s likely. Not with The Immortal after you in this tiline, too.”

“Oh, right.”

“Mom, when you were pregnant with , did anything strange happen? Was there anything going on that you were worried about?”

“Hmm... nothing I rember. It was a long ti ago.”

I squeezed her fingers. “Please, Mom, think. There has to be sothing.”

She sighed and glanced to the side. I realized there was sothing she rembered. She just didn’t want to tell .

“Please,” I whispered.

Slowly, she brought her eyes back to mine. “Nothing bad happened. Rember that.”

“But sothing happened?”

“Well, there was a bit of a fuss with your father. He thought you were going to be powerful and have all these gifts descended from his line.”

“But I didn’t?”

She shook her head. “No. He was surprised and upset. But he didn’t find out until weeks after you were born.”

“Hmm...” Lucas humd thoughtfully.

I looked over at him. He stroked his chin.

“Before her father showed up, did anything else happen? Were there people hanging around or strange occurrences?”

“Nothing that unusual. I did have a nice, older woman helping out when Sasha was first born. She helped with housework and adjusting to motherhood. She watched you while I slept.”

My mom smiled fondly at .

I narrowed my eyes. An older woman hanging around as a little baby–was it possible she did anything to this Sasha to take her powers?

There were a lot of witches out there who could sense my powers. I’d encountered a lot of them. If my mom was alone and defenseless, one could have swooped in without her knowing about it.

“What else did she do for ?” I asked, chewing the inside of my cheek.

“Well, I contacted her specifically because she was rumored to have powers of her own. I was hoping she’d be able to tell if you had powers so I could protect you from your father. And she did.”

My throat tightened and my heart rate picked up.

Under the table, Lucas took my hand and squeezed.

“Mom, what was that woman’s na?” I squeaked out.

It was sounding more and more like this woman had sothing to do with my powers.

“Her na–” My mom tapped her chin. “Ahh, yes, her na was Morianne.”

I froze, feeling the blood drain from my face. No way–Morianne had to be responsible for stealing this Sasha’s powers.

Lucas and I excused ourselves to the back porch while my mom cleaned up our lunch.

“Morianne must have gotten to in this tiline before we ever knew she was a threat,” I said.

“You think that’s possible? We didn’t encounter her until you were in college.”

“I know, but there are a lot of different things in every tiline. It’s possible. She’s been after them in every tiline we’ve been in.”

Lucas nodded slowly. “I thought The Immortal was our biggest concern.”

“Lucas, we have to get this Sasha’s powers back. We need to find Morianne and get her to give the powers back.”

“We can’t, Sasha.” Lucas put his hands on my shoulders. “We’ve got too much to deal with in our own tiline.”

“Lucas, you agreed that we needed to help this Sasha and Lucas.”

“I did, but going after Morianne is too dangerous, especially if she stole your powers in this tiline. I know you want to help, Sasha. That’s who you are. But we need to get back to our tiline. We have no idea what’s going on there.”

I shook my head. “No, not until we get this Sasha’s powers back or unlocked, whatever.”

Lucas groaned a little. I could tell he was getting frustrated with , but I couldn’t run away from this.

“Not to ntion, if Morianne has my powers in this tiline, she’ll be able to use the orbs. That’s not good for any tiline.”

“Well, you make a good point...”

“Co on, Lucas. We’ve co this far. I don’t want to leave them hanging.”

“I know. But the longer we’re away from our own tiline, the greater chance that we could go back to a world that we don’t recognize.”

“You’re right... but I think if we can get Lucas and Sasha from other tilines together and at full power, then it could help stabilize all the tilines. Fewer people would be able to use the power of the orbs, and they’d be in a position to stop them.”

Lucas narrowed his eyes at . I could tell that I was getting to him.

“We should really focus on our own problems before trying to help others.”

“Under normal circumstances, I’d agree,” I said. “But we’re already in this tiline and in a position to help these two.”

Lucas sighed heavily and looked away from . I could tell he was thinking things over.

“Lucas, if we just leave this Sasha and Lucas, they won’t be able to defend themselves against The Immortal in this world. Can we really walk away from that?”

Lucas winced and his hands tightened on my shoulders. His expression softened and he brought his eyes back to mine.

“Sasha... it’s dangerous. We already can’t protect you from The Immortal, and he’s found you once.”

“That just supports my point, you know. Think of what would happen if The Immortal in any tiline did what he wanted to do. It could destroy a lot more than just that tiline.”

“I know. I know... but we can’t solve the problems of every tiline. We physically don’t have the ti or capabilities.”

“You’re right. But we are here and we know who we’re after. So, at least, we can help in this tiline.”

Lucas scoffed and pulled against his chest in a hug. I nuzzled close to him and breathed in his enticing, delicious scent.

“Alright, you’ve won over. We’ll find Morianne and see if we can get this Sasha’s powers back. After that, we need to get ho.”

“Okay, agreed.” I nodded.

“We just need to find Morianne in this tiline.”

“I bet my mom knows.”

We headed back inside where my mom was wiping down the kitchen.

“Mom, can you tell more about Morianne?” I asked.

She paused and glanced at . “What did you want to know?”

“Do you know what happened to her after she stopped helping you out?”

“Of course. I kept in touch with her over the years. We weren’t close or anything, but she liked getting updates about your life.”

My stomach shifted uneasily. She was probably following up to make sure whatever she did was permanent.

“Then you know where we can find her?” I brightened.

My mom smiled. “Actually, yes. She’s the head priestess of the Lycaon Church in the Dark Realm.”
