Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Perhaps the Living Have it Harder Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Perhaps the Living Have it Harder “Xinxin, can we stop making a scene and just go ho?” Song Maner saw Song Xiner acting so crazed, and she was scared too.
“Making a scene, it’s always making a scene,” you think I bully people around every day just because I like to cause trouble? I just don’t know how to live; my heart constantly feels too stifled. I want to die, but I’m too scared. Living tires so much; I can only go out every day looking for trouble. When I’m arguing with soone, that’s when I feel the most at ease. Do you think I’m sick?” After saying this, Song Xiner started to laugh hysterically, tears streaming down her face.
Gu Pan gripped Lu Ruisheng’s hand tightly; she didn’t know what to feel at the mont and was at a loss for words about Song Xiner. Her experiences were truly too cruel, yet she shouldn’t take it out on others. If she and Ruisheng didn’t have the ability to work as Scavengers and were suppressed by her when looking for other jobs, then it would be wrong to harm the innocent.
But her experiences seed to have affected her ntal health. To argue with soone who might be ntally ill over what’s right and what’s wrong indeed seed pointless.
So, after exchanging glances with Ruisheng, they quietly left, pretending not to know anything about other people’s past.
Of course, they also knew that the girl they had seen before, who looked just like Song Xiner, wasn’t her but her twin sister Song Maner.
The argunt between Song Xiner and Song Maner was so intense that they didn’t notice Gu Pan and the others; Song Xiner was still freaking out, and Song Maner felt helpless, but she was still trying her best to comfort her.
Song Maner embraced Song Xiner: “Xinxin, calm down, what do you want? I will help you, no matter what.”
Song Xiner cald down, wiping away her tears: “What do I want? I don’t know what I want. I want to die, but I’m too scared. I want to go out and cause trouble for others, but, but I know it’s not right. Yet, the mont I calm down, those mories co flooding back. What should I do? Tell , what should I do?”
Song Maner’s tears also fell: “I don’t know either, I really don’t know how to comfort you or what I can do for you. I don’t know how to help. What should we do? What should we do?”
The two sisters leaned against a bulletin board, both in tears, but they also didn’t know what to do. It was an unsolvable problem, at least for them.
After Gu Pan and Ruisheng moved away to a distance, they stopped under a tree; the confrontation they had just witnessed was really oppressive.
Gu Pan sighed: “The apocalypse has truly hard too many people.”
Ruisheng also heaved a sigh, “Those who are alive may not have it easier than those who have died.”
“Indeed, we should talk to Dad about the ntal health issue. If the base has too many people with ntal problems, it’s very likely to cause trouble. We could look for so psychologists to provide regular counseling to everyone.”
“Alright, then let’s go to Dad. You ntioned before that in your past life, you suffered from ntal health issues too. This must be a common problem that indeed needs to be addressed.”
“Or we could go ho first and cook sothing to bring with us. Dad’s food at work isn’t great, and with the recent events of the polar day, he probably hasn’t been ho these nights. Otherwise, he might not stop by our place. I’ll make so soup to nourish him.”
“You always think of everything.”
“Let’s do a little extra and bring so for Secretary Li too. With this polar day situation, they will likely be busy for a while.”
“Okay, let’s head ho first.”
Saying this, the two of them held hands and continued walking towards their ho.
Once they returned ho, Gu Pan gathered the ingredients for the al. Since they couldn’t use fresh at, she stewed a soup using dried chicken and ginseng, cooked a few side dishes, stead so rice, and after eating at ho, they packed two food containers—one for Lu Jianguo and one for Li Shukang.
Actually, during this ti, the two had learned about the information regarding the base’s leaders. The five major leaders were all decent. Although there was competition and so had their sches, they ultimately worked for the future of the base, not the kind who would disregard the masses for their own careers.
They drove to Lu Jianguo’s office. They were worried he might not be in, but luckily they caught him just as he was returning from the greenhouse.
Seeing the child arrive, Lu Jianguo’s exhaustion vanished, “Why did you two co over? Sit down quickly. I’ve been too busy these past few days, haven’t even been ho at night, and didn’t get to see you both.”
Lu Ruisheng placed the food box on the coffee table, “No matter how busy, you still need to look after your health. We’ve also been a bit occupied these past two days, or else we would have co to bring you food earlier.”
Hearing they had been occupied, Lu Jianguo was sowhat worried, “What happened?”
Lu Ruisheng quickly said, “It’s not sothing bad, it’s our friend’s arrival, Squad Leader Fang and his daughter, whom I ntioned to you before.”
Lu Jianguo, hearing about Squad Leader Fang, was also quite happy for Lu Ruisheng and the others, “They’re here? Then your little team is a bit more complete.”
Lu Ruisheng nodded, “Yeah, but Squad Leader Fang isn’t in good health. Dr. Feng took him to the hospital for a check-up, hope there’s nothing wrong.”
Lu Jianguo sighed, “Ah, surviving to make it into the base in the apocalypse is not easy.”
Lu Ruisheng looked at the other food box, “Dad, I’ll take this portion to Uncle Li.”
Lu Jianguo said, “Go ahead, quickly now, he just got back too.”
Lu Ruisheng picked up the food box and left.
Gu Pan opened their box of food, “Ruisheng and I weren’t sure if you’d be in the office, so we ate at ho first.”
Lu Jianguo looked at the dishes, “You cooked so much again, going through such trouble, just one dish would have been enough.”
After speaking, he looked at the chicken soup, “How did you even get chicken?”
Gu Pan smiled, “It’s air-dried. We’ve air-dried a lot of at; you shouldn’t be too frugal in the future, Dad. We’re not wasting base resources; we’ve secured these ourselves. There’s more outside, we’re not short on anything.”
Lu Jianguo laughed, “If I get fat from eating this, won’t others suspect I’ve been stealing food?”
Gu Pan also laughed; her father-in-law was quite cheerful to spend the day with.
Lu Ruisheng quickly returned and reported that Li Shukang couldn’t wait for him to leave before starting on the chicken soup, and his speed was remarkable.
Lu Jianguo laughed, “We were indeed quite tired and hungry these past two days, always eating stead buns with pickled vegetables, lacking in oil and moisture.”
Gu Pan said, “Then if we’re ho at midday in the future, we’ll bring you food, since we’re not working anyway.”
Lu Jianguo quickly waved his hands, “Every day, it would be just like going to work. You two usually enjoy so much freedom, but if it ends up like you’re working just to bring food, that won’t do. The cafeteria is fine most days; it’s just been too hectic recently. Don’t worry.”
Gu Pan said, “In that case, tonight I’ll make you so preserved ats, salt pork, and pickles that can keep well. Then you can bring them to the cafeteria when you eat, to get so more oil and moisture.”
Lu Jianguo laughed, “That’s a deal. Then I’ll be the envy of everyone.” It should be known that he had just reunited with his son, and now he couldn’t help but want to show off his son every day. Practically everyone he worked with knew how outstanding his son was.
Gu Pan served him a bowl of soup, “Have so soup, nourish your stomach.”
Lu Jianguo looked at the ginseng and wolfberries in the chicken soup, reflecting, “You two really aren’t short on supplies.”
Gu Pan smiled, “Yeah, we really aren’t.”
