Serena Yardley was furious.
She wanted to hit soone.
But her rational mind told her that violence wouldn’t solve anything and would only work against her.
Yet, looking at the smug, arrogant woman in front of her, she was at the end of her rope.
Her expression hardening, Serena Yardley advanced nacingly on Sylvia Schuyler and said coldly,
"Is that so? If I can’t even satisfy my husband, then you probably can’t even get him aroused."
"Sylvia Schuyler, you underestimate how well I know my husband. He may be nice to you and protect you, but it’s all because he feels indebted and guilty for hitting you with his car, which left you unable to have children.
Even if my husband defends you, he would absolutely never cheat on his wife. That’s a line he won’t cross.
So don’t get carried away and show off in front of . It doesn’t provoke ; it just makes think you’re foolish and pathetic."
’Boasting to about what Ethan is like in bed.’
’Is she even worthy?’
’She probably has no idea how he was with every night before she ca into the picture.’
Sylvia Schuyler froze.
Her face turned ashen with utter humiliation.
She hadn’t expected that Ethan Yardley had already told Serena Yardley about her situation.
The one secret she could never bring herself to talk about... Ethan had actually told Serena.
At this mont, she felt that she was the one being humiliated.
It was as if she had just slapped her own face.
She wished she could find a hole to crawl into and hide.
"It’s you again, you shaless howrecker."
Raina Yardley suddenly ran over and kicked Sylvia Schuyler, glaring at her and yelling,
"What do you want, you nasty howrecker? You dare bully my nephew’s wife? I’ll get my youngest uncle to beat you up!"
Sylvia Schuyler turned to look at the child.
For a mont, she didn’t quite understand what she had said.
Serena Yardley took Raina’s hand. "Little Aunt, let’s go. The air here stinks."
"Yeah, I don’t want to be around a nasty woman like her. I’ll get my youngest uncle to beat her to a pulp later."
As the child was pulled away, she couldn’t resist turning back to make a face at Sylvia Schuyler.
Sylvia Schuyler stood frozen, mulling over what Serena Yardley had said.
’She called that child ’Little Aunt’?’
’That child is Ethan Yardley’s aunt?’
’How did I not know Ethan’s family had such a young aunt?’
But thinking back to how Ethan Yardley had gotten angry at her because of that child, it was clear the child’s status must be sothing special.
She didn’t dwell on it. Watching the receding figures of Serena Yardley leading the child away and recalling Serena’s earlier words, she still felt a burning sense of sha and indignation.
’I won’t let this go.’
’Ethan Yardley can only belong to .’
...
Just as Serena Yardley was leading Raina out of the mall, a handso, well-dressed man got out of a sedan parked on the roadside not far away, smiling and waving at them.
"Raina..."
When Raina saw it was her youngest uncle, she happily hurried over to him.
"Youngest Uncle, you’re here to pick us up! You should have co earlier to teach that nasty howrecker a lesson for . Youngest Uncle, you don’t know, that nasty howrecker hit before."
Gabriel Galloway rested a hand on the child’s shoulder and asked with a frown, "Which nasty howrecker?"
Raina looked back at Serena Yardley. "I don’t know her, but my nephew’s wife does. Ask my nephew’s wife."
Gabriel Galloway lifted his gaze to Serena Yardley, who was standing a short distance away.
Serena Yardley was also looking at Gabriel Galloway.
’Suddenly, she rembered how just a mont ago, three n had appeared out of nowhere to block her path, warning her to stay away from Gabriel Galloway.’
’Sothing about "cherish your life, stay away from Gabriel Galloway."’
Taking a deep breath, Serena Yardley stepped forward and said, "You’re here for Raina, right? Can you take her ho for ? I have sothing else to do, so I’ll be going."
She wanted to take a taxi back by herself and avoid getting involved with Gabriel Galloway as much as possible.
But just as she turned to leave, Gabriel Galloway grabbed her by the arm.
He pressed, "Who is the nasty howrecker Raina was talking about?"
"No one. Just soone unimportant."
Raina imdiately retorted, "How is she unimportant? She hit ! Nephew’s wife, tell Youngest Uncle who she is. I want him to teach her a lesson for and knock all her teeth out!"
Left with no choice, Serena Yardley told Gabriel Galloway, "Her na is Sylvia Schuyler. But don’t go looking for trouble with her. She has soone protecting her. I’m leaving now."
Genuinely afraid of spending any more ti with Gabriel Galloway, Serena Yardley hailed a cab on the roadside and left.
Gabriel Galloway stood rooted to the spot, watching Serena Yardley’s worried expression as she left, and felt a strange pang in his heart.
Although he didn’t know why Serena Yardley had married Ethan Yardley, judging by her current state, she didn’t seem to be doing very well.
Opening the car door, Gabriel Galloway gestured to the child beside him. "Get in the car, Raina."
"Okay."
After the child was in the car, Gabriel Galloway asked again, "Raina, tell , what’s been happening these past two days while you’ve been staying with Ethan and the others?"
Children don’t have much of a filter, so as soon as the adult asked, she told him everything she knew.
...
Serena Yardley took the taxi straight to the building where Ethan Yardley’s company was located.
But she didn’t go into the office building. Instead, she found a bench in a nearby garden and sat down, phone clutched in her hand. She wanted to call her husband, but she was too angry to dial the number.
’She missed her husband.’
’She wanted to see him, to be with him.’
But the thought of him staying away from her for Sylvia Schuyler’s sake made her fight to restrain herself.
She jumped when her phone suddenly rang.
When she saw the caller ID and realized it was truly the husband she had been longing for, a surge of joy filled Serena Yardley’s heart, and she answered the call.
"Hubby..."
she called out softly.
"Yeah."
Ethan Yardley replied, his deep, magnetic voice telling her, "I’m not coming back tonight. Don’t wait up for for dinner. Get so rest early."
Serena Yardley was left speechless.
’This was the first ti he’d called her since last night, and this is what he had to say?’
’He’s not coming ho... is he going to be with Sylvia Schuyler?’
Although she didn’t believe her husband would actually do as Sylvia Schuyler claid—sleep with her and say those humiliating things to her.
But the fact that he was going to stay with Sylvia Schuyler was sothing she couldn’t accept.
The joy that had just sparked in her heart was instantly extinguished by grief.
Serena Yardley said unhappily, "Why aren’t you coming ho? Hubby, I miss you. Please co ho after work, okay?"
She was begging him.
She didn’t want the bit of sweetness they’d shared just last night to vanish into thin air.
Sensing her unhappiness, Ethan Yardley said in a low voice, "Sylvia’s not in a good state. I’ll stay with her for a couple of days."
That one sentence brutally snapped Serena Yardley back to reality.
’Sylvia, Sylvia... all he cares about is Sylvia.’
Serena Yardley couldn’t help but lose her temper. "What do you an she’s not in a good state? I just ran into her at the mall, and she was as arrogant as could be!"
Ethan fell silent.
"Hubby, I’m asking you one more ti. Are you coming ho or not?"
She was furious, her voice rising several decibels.
When had anyone ever dared to yell at Ethan Yardley like that? Rage swelled in his chest as he said coldly,
"Serena Yardley, who gave you the nerve to speak to like that?"
Once Serena Yardley’s temper flared, she feared no one.
"I’m your wife! I just want you to co ho and be with after work!"
"I told you, I have sothing to do," Ethan Yardley’s temper flared as well.
"Is your ’sothing to do’ staying with another woman?"
"Serena Yardley, are you trying to cause a scene again?"
Serena Yardley sniffled, then shouted angrily into the phone,
"Yes, I am going to cause a scene! If you don’t co back, I’ll leave! I’ll go sowhere you can’t find and disappear forever!"
