Leaving aside the fact that Miss Li had accepted Yan Wanqing’s favor, even the Zhang and Wang families would change their attitude towards the Empress’s faction, not to ntion Wu Chengnan with his eight hundred ticulous plans.

It could only be said that today’s move by Yan Wanqing, who did absolutely nothing but simply brought these three young ladies in front of Zhang Lanyi, had resulted in quite a few favors and worldly wisdom.

With the Seventh Prince and the Crown Prince at loggerheads, most court officials were in deep trouble.

All she and Empress Zhang Lanyi needed to do was to sit back and watch, profit from the fishern’s quarrel, and they would be able to pick up quite a few bargains from afar.

Of course, absolutely no one would suspect that the current Empress actually harbored any thoughts of supplanting the Emperor. Or rather, these arrogant n never took won seriously, so they were never afraid or worried.

After all, once the Emperor passed away, the Empress would have to be buried alive. No matter how rampant the Empress’s faction might be now, it would disperse like monkeys scattering at the fall of a tree. It would be better to spend more ti navigating between the Seventh Prince and the Crown Prince, lest one bet on the wrong person and lose everything.

During the noon banquet, Zhang Lanyi had too much to drink. Yan Wanqing, along with her palace attendant, escorted her to the bedroom. After the attendant had taken care of her, Yan Wanqing didn’t hurry to leave. Instead, she slowly lit the incense in the room.

Zhang Lanyi propped up her chin and just watched the cool young girl: "What kind of incense is this?"

"Soul-calming Incense," Yan Wanqing replied without lifting her eyelids.

Zhang Lanyi let out a coquettish laugh, "How do you know that I can’t sleep at night?"

Yan Wanqing blew out the fire starter in her hand and waved it around: "It’s not just Your Highness, I, too, cannot rest. How can one sleep when great tasks are unfinished?"

"You young girl, speaking to you really has no fun at all." Zhang Lanyi yawned and then waved her hand, "Go on, I am tired."

Yan Wanqing saw that her eyes were clear, showing no sign of the drunkenness she just displayed. She didn’t leave but instead went straight to the edge of the bed and knelt on the ground: "Your Highness, why do you choose to stay overnight at the Princess Residence today?"

"Are you implying that you don’t welco ?" Zhang Lanyi raised an eyebrow.

Yan Wanqing replied with clear eyes: "Your Highness surely understands that those who achieve great tasks must be extrely cautious. Any small detail can directly affect us, or even beco a handle for others to grasp."

"I know what you want to say," Zhang Lanyi sat up straight, her black hair cascading down her shoulders, alluring beyond asure. Her expression held a trace of loneliness: "I am well aware."

"If that is the case, I won’t disturb Your Highness any further. I shall take my leave," Yan Wanqing said as she stood up using the bed for support and respectfully left the room.

At this point, if Zhang Lanyi wanted to change her own fate, she could no longer be lost in romance.

The monk on Southern Mountain would eventually turn into a sharp sword aid at Zhang Lanyi’s heart.

A murderous intent flickered through Yan Wanqing’s lowered eyes.

She would not allow any uncertainties to surface in this chess ga.

If Zhang Lanyi could not steel her heart, then it was up to her, as a subject, to make decisions for her.

Rustling sounds ca from inside the room.

Zhang Lanyi found herself suddenly enveloped in soone’s arms, the familiar sandalwood scent causing her body to relax.

"That girl just now had murderous intentions," she murmured.

The man with heterochromia smiled slightly, "And what of it?"

"People of the Yan Family are not simple," Zhang Lanyi said, resting on his shoulder with a sigh: "She just warned not to be too presumptuous."

"Youth is to be feared," said the man, his purple eye brimming with affection: "Speaking of you, you were indeed quite bold today."

"I have faith in the capabilities of your family’s youth. If they cannot even handle this, how can they conspire with for great achievents?" Zhang Lanyi turned, reached out her hand to hook the chin of the handso man, and whispered softly with her lips parting, her breath as fragrant as orchid: "Or is it that you have taken a liking for the young girl?"

"Do you rember the palm reading we looked at last ti?" the man changed the subject.

Zhang Lanyi remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

"The person in the Crown Prince’s fate is her."

Zhang Lanyi, utterly unsurprised, asked, "What about that girl?"

The man shook his head, "It’s blurry, there’s a veil covering it."

"You’ve found a palm line you can’t make out?" Zhang Lanyi teased, "The Crown Prince has been running to the Township Manor whenever he’s free these days. Today, for the joyous housewarming, he even moved eight huge boxes of stuff there; anyone with eyes can see what’s happening. Besides, that brat hasn’t bothered to hide his intentions. Even though the girl is engaged to the Young Marquis from the Northern Border, I’m almost certain he would still attempt to snatch her away."

"After all, he’s the Crown Prince of Dawei, it’s unlikely for him to do sothing so reckless without considering the consequences," the man said, sowhat incredulous.

Zhang Lanyi, recalling the past years’ argunts and scuffles in the palace with Xiao Pingfeng’s sharp tongue, sighed and touched the man’s cheek, "You, having stayed too long on the Southern Mountain, are unaware of the wickedness of the human heart in this world. That Crown Prince is no simpleton. Once truly angered, he’s capable of anything. Did you really think these years of presenting himself as gentle and courteous were all for show to the public?"

"There seems to be more to your words," he noted.

Zhang Lanyi, playfully snuggling into his embrace, traced circles on his chest, "To think you are a man and yet you can’t see through such simple intentions."

The man with heterochromia indulgently embraced her, gesturing for her to continue speaking.

"I vaguely rember when Yan Wanqing was of age to be married, the whole city was abuzz. Nearly every eligible bachelor in the Capital City had once approached the Yan Family to propose. Later, rumors began to spread that she fancied n who were gentle, courteous, discerning, and tactful." Zhang Lanyi, as if recalling sothing hilarious, laughed until she could hardly breathe, "After that, the Crown Prince seed to have transford into a different person."

"Back then, there was even a marriage arrangent between the two of them," Zhang Lanyi suddenly remarked with a sigh, "But who would have thought that the girl would take a liking to the Young Marquis from the Northern Border? It seems rather pitiable, considering the Crown Prince’s deep affection all these years."

The man held her close, listening contentedly as she spoke cheerily, gently stroking her long hair with his hand.

Suddenly, he said, "Lanyi."

"Hmm?" Zhang Lanyi looked up at him.

His eyes were full of resolve, "I want to marry you."

Zhang Lanyi was taken aback, slowly sitting up and moving out of his embrace. She reached out to pull her clothes over her smooth shoulders and smiled downwards, "Don’t jest. I’ve had a bit to drink today, and I might take your words to heart."

"The day will certainly co."

Zhang Lanyi, head lowered, remained silent.

The man leaned in close and softly inquired, "What’s wrong?"

Zhang Lanyi suddenly extended her hand toward him, "Xun Wu, take a look at my palm. It’s been a long ti since you last did."

"Divination only weakens the more it’s practiced," Xun Wu said as he took her hand.

Zhang Lanyi laughed lightly, "The fate of a beauty is always tenuous, just an unfounded claim. Please, have a look for ."

Xun Wu sighed and laid her delicate hand on his own palm.

After so ti, Zhang Lanyi, seeing him silent, urged, "Well? How is it?"

Xun Wu raised his eyes, and within his heterochromic irises, disbelief shone through.

"Your palm lines, they’re the sa as that girl’s," he said, pursing his lips. "Just half a year ago they were so clear, but now they’re not discernible at all."

Zhang Lanyi drew back her hand and frowned, "What nonsense are you speaking?"

"I understand now!" Xun Wu suddenly embraced Zhang Lanyi tightly, "Lanyi... Perhaps she truly has the power to influence your destiny!"

"You an that girl—", Zhang Lanyi, pinching her hand, murmured, then fell silent.

"Now the ga of certain death is shrouded in mist, the victor on the chessboard is yet undecided, and whose prey the deer shall be is also unknown. If this is the case, I am willing to risk everything to confront Song Huaxu! For you, Lanyi, I am willing to do anything!"
