Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Return to the Ancestral Ho
She had no choice but to stay at a hotel, but the hotel was quite far from Shen Group.
Leading Yuexue out of the hospital, the X-rays showed no damage to her skull. She felt relieved, picked up so dication to reduce swelling and disperse bruising, and walked ahead with Yuexue.
As they stepped outside the hospital, they were caught up by Lu Yi from behind.
“I have a set of keys for you. I rarely go to that place, you can take Yuexue there to settle down for the ti being. Don’t worry, I won’t be coming over during this period, so I won’t put any pressure on you.”
Shen Heyu looked at the heavy set of keys he was holding out and couldn’t quite describe how she felt.
Lu Yi said, “You shouldn’t put too much psychological pressure on yourself either. To , you are the sa as Yun Lan. I want to be good to you.”
Shen Heyu thought for a mont but still did not reach out to take the keys.
She knew what he thought of her, but she did not share those feelings, and therefore, she could not accept too much from him.
Otherwise, it would give him unrealistic hopes, stringing him along and wasting both their ti.
Just as she was about to refuse, another cold voice sounded from behind them, “Doctor Lu, my daughter surely isn’t so destitute as to need to borrow a place to stay?”
Turning around at the sound, she saw Pei Yansi approaching from the other side.
He had just left the hospital earlier, knowing that Shen Heyu didn’t want to see her, so he planned to wait below before taking her to stay temporarily.
Little did he expect that by the ti he got downstairs, Lu Ji would still obstinately intercept.
Stepping forward, Pei Yansi assertively pulled Shen Heyu’s hand.
With the two holding hands and Shen Heyu still leading Yuexue, it looked to the onlookers as if they were a loving family of three.
He said to Lu Yi, “There’s no need for Doctor Lu to worry. Rember what I said today, and goodbye.”
Lu Yi frowned. What had he said today?
To make him worry about the Lu Family’s future.
It wasn’t hard for him to guess the aning behind his words; he intended to target the Lu Family.
Pei Yansi forcefully took Shen Heyu away. His grip was strong, making her wrist hurt. She didn’t want to show a quarrelso side with him, especially not in front of Yuexue.
The way parents interact often leaves a deep impression on their children.
She didn’t want to expose Yuexue to negative influences.
And so, she was dragged into the car by Pei Yan.
As soon as Yuexue got in, Shen Heyu held her and sat on the other side, putting as much distance as possible between Yuexue and Pei Yansi, not wanting him anywhere near Yuexue.
The car was silent, driven by the family’s chauffeur.
Shen Heyu recognized him at a glance.
She had thought that, over the years, many faces in her life would fade from her mory, but she was surprised to find the mories were deeply etched.
Just like the death of Shen Fanshuang years ago.
Her mind felt sowhat hazy.
Pei Yansi was seated beside her, and because Yuexue was also seated on one side, she couldn’t be too far from him. He clearly noticed the shift in her emotions.
He moved a bit closer, “What are you thinking about?”
Shen Heyu sniffled, tossing the unpleasant mories out of her mind before responding, “I’m thinking about where you’re going to take us, wondering how shaless and brazen you can be.”
Although the words weren’t kind, they carried a hint of anger.
For so reason, Pei Yansi felt pleased hearing them, as long as she was not in that distant, disinterested state where she wouldn’t deal with him, anything was better.
He was startled by the thought.
Since when had he beco so obsessed?
He eased his spirits and then said, “I’m taking you back to the ancestral ho. Grandma has been missing you.”
ntioning the old lady caused Shen Heyu to be montarily stunned. The old lady was one of the few sources of warmth in her world since the death of Shen Fanshuang.
She didn’t care what Shen Heyu had gone through in the past, what mistakes she had made, she just knew she was her daughter-in-law.
And treated her as well as she could.
Seeing that she seed to soften a bit, Pei Yansi continued, “Over the past six years, Grandma has always missed you, won’t you go see her?”
Shen Heyu didn’t speak.
What she was really thinking was, Grandma missed her.
But what about him?
Without her around to annoy him, there must have been more won by his side, right? How many Bai Sheng’er had appeared? Where was Bai Sheng’er now? Was she all set to marry him, or could it be, already married?
As she was pondering, Yuexue next to her asked, “Mom, who is Grandma?”
Shen Heyu froze, unsure how to explain the old lady’s identity to Yuexue or what to have her call the old lady later.
She was indeed Pei Yansi’s child, but their relationship…
While she hesitated, Pei Yansi was the first to speak, “She’s your Grandma. Do you know how to call her? There’s a reward if you call her.”
Yuexue’s delicate brows furrowed, “I don’t want any of your rewards, big anie.”
Pei Yansi was caught between laughter and tears. Thankfully, his many years in business had given him the ability to control his emotions, so his face showed no signs of the internal upheaval.
But his heart was already quaking because of this mother and daughter.
It was just that… indeed, what was he to do? Now Shen Heyu didn’t care for her, and his daughter didn’t care for him either. Was he supposed to chase after them, to beg?
He couldn’t do that.
His expression grew colder. In any case, just forcibly keep them by his side, like how it had been many years ago, it could be the sa now.
The car arrived at the destination amidst the unclear thoughts of its passengers.
The old Pei family house, Shen Heyu rembered it distinctly, having lived there for many years before leaving for six.
Just like those past mories, she thought they had faded in her life, but it was only upon seeing the house again that she realized how deep a mark Zhe Xi had left in her mory.
Pei Yansi got out of the car first, reaching out to carry Yuexue.
Yuexue refused to pay him any attention and hopped down by herself, imdiately taking Shen Heyu’s hand.
His hands just stiffened in midair, and after a long while, he retracted them. Seeing this, Shen Heyu looked at him with a hint of triumph.
He too had a day when he would be humbled.
Pei Yansi didn’t feel very comfortable inside.
They were here now, and there was no thought of Shen Heyu leaving anymore, nor could she leave. Having co all this way, she might as well accept it.
She led Yuexue inside.
It was a sumr evening, the garden lush and green. The old lady was sitting in the shade of a tree and, hearing the footsteps and thinking it was Pei Yansi, didn’t even bother to look their way as she said, “That wedding room of yours and Heyu, I’ve had it cleaned up. Don’t go there to sleep anymore, making a ss with your vomit, it’s hard to clean up, you know?”
Shen Heyu paused upon hearing this.
So did Pei Yansi.
She could discern the several layers of aning in the old lady’s words. She looked quizzically at the man beside her. He still went to sleep in their wedding room?
Pei Yansi t her probing gaze frankly, explaining, “I had too much to drink the other day. Socializing, I went into the wrong room.”
The old lady perked up. Who was this child talking to?
She tilted her head, finally looking their way.
