Chapter 572: Chapter 572: Another Man Answered Her Phone
Pei Yansi imdiately stood up from the sofa upon hearing news related to Shen Heyu. Clutching his phone without self-assurance, he harbored an ominous premonition.
The Chen family’s place was a den of tigers and wolves. If Shen Heyu had nothing to do, why would she go there?

“Hello, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
Shen Heyu didn’t pick up the phone. What was she doing now? Why didn’t she answer the phone?
Even if Chen Lingng hadn’t lied and what she said was true—that Shen Heyu was really going to attend—Shen Heyu should not have reached the Chen family’s place by the ti their call ended; could she already be on her way?
Pei Yansi called Shen Heyu again, and Gu Siyu picked up her phone.
He reminded Shen Heyu, “Do you want to answer the call that ca for you yesterday?”
Shen Heyu was about to answer the phone directly, but when she thought about Gu Siyu holding her phone, if Pei Yansi heard a man answer her phone, he might get angry and decide not to entangle with her anymore.
With that thought, Shen Heyu said indifferently, “You answer it for , listen to what he has to say.”
After Gu Siyu answered the call, he switched on the speakerphone.
“Do you need Heyu for sothing? She is driving right now. If you have sothing important, I can relay it to her,” Gu Siyu said into the phone.
As soon as the call connected, Pei Yansi was about to ask Shen Heyu whether what Chen Lingng had said was true, but before he could speak, he heard Gu Siyu’s voice.
“You’re with Shen Heyu? Why did you answer her phone, and where is she now? I need to speak with her,” Pei Yansi anxiously probed.
He picked up the suit jacket tossed over the sofa and headed out the door.
“I am with Shen Heyu; I just said she is driving. We are on our way to the Chen family’s place. If you have sothing to say, you can tell , and I will pass it on to her.”
“I don’t need that. Whatever I have to say, I will make it clear to her in person—no need for soone else to relay it. But there is sothing I’d like you to pass on to her: in the future, don’t let n just answer her phone so casually.”
After saying this, Pei Yansi hung up the call. He drove to the Chen family’s house on his own since his company was closer to the Chen family villa; it took him only about ten minutes to reach the suburban villa.
“Brother Yansi, I knew you would co. I’ve prepared your favorite pastries. It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other. Co and try them to see if they suit your taste,” Chen Lingng said, her eyes gleaming with happiness as she saw Pei Yansi.
After getting out of the car, Pei Yansi scanned the surroundings, looking for the figure of Shen Heyu, “Where’s Shen Heyu?”
Chen Lingng was delighted to see Pei Yansi, but when he ntioned Shen Heyu’s na right off the bat, Chen Lingng was so infuriated she nearly bit through her row of teeth.
“Brother Yan Si, are you mistaken? I am the one about to get engaged to you, so why are you still fixated on Shen Heyu? He’ll be coming later; you don’t need to be so anxious.”
Chen Lingng acted coquettishly towards Pei Yansi, but Pei Yansi seed to ignore it as he took out his phone and called Shen Heyu again.
This ti the call finally connected, and it was Shen Heyu himself who answered.
“What’s so important that you need to call ? Just tell straight,” said Shen Heyu, standing on the bustling roadside, with cars whizzing past.
Gu Siyu got out of the car to check the engine and said helplessly, “I have no idea what’s wrong with the car. How about this? I’ll call Xiao Qiu to co pick us up now.”
“That’s the only option,” Shen Heyu agreed with a nod to Gu Siyu while holding the phone, and Pei Yansi overheard from the call that their car had broken down en route.
“What’s wrong with your car? You haven’t had an accident, have you? Are you injured?” Pei Yansi asked anxiously upon hearing they had run into trouble. He was worried they might have been sabotaged on their way to the Chen family.
“That’s none of your concern, it’s just a simple breakdown, nothing too serious. You still haven’t answered my question, what is it that you need to tell over the phone?”
“What are you doing at the Chen family’s place?” The point of interest for Pei Yansi lay there; Chen Wenzhou was a man of sly and insidious manner, and he worried about Shen Heyu dealing with him and getting hurt.
“That’s my personal business, Mr. Pei. It doesn’t concern you, nor do you have any right to ask about it. If that’s all, then I’m ending the call.”
“Shen Heyu,” Pei Yansi called out in a panic, but all he heard next was the beep of the answering machine; Shen Heyu had hung up.
Pei Yansi furrowed his brows deeply and put down his phone, only to look up and find Chen Lingng staring at him with a resentful expression.
Pretending to be angry, Chen Lingng reached out to grab Pei Yansi’s hand but was coldly avoided by him.
“Brother Yan Si, do you take too lightly? Is it because I like you, because I am kind-hearted and forgiving, that you so openly contact your ex-girlfriend in front of ?”
“Not an ex-girlfriend,” Pei Yansi stated coldly.
Upon hearing this, Chen Lingng’s face lit up with joy as she arrogantly said, “Brother Pei Yansi, I just knew you had cut ties with Shen Heyu completely, so now I can rest easy. ”
“She’s the only woman for , past, present, and future. No one can replace her, so she isn’t sothing of the past, nor is she my ex-girlfriend. She is my future wife.”
Pei Yansi looked at Chen Lingng’s smug face, which, upon hearing his declaration, fell as if plumting into an icy abyss, her smile fading bit by bit.
Chen Lingng turned pale, looking at Pei Yansi, unable to believe what she had just heard.
“What did you just say?”
If Chen Lingng hadn’t understood, then Pei Yansi didn’t mind repeating it.
Pei Yansi told Chen Lingng once more, “I will not marry any woman other than Shen Heyu. My heart holds only her, and I wish to spend the rest of my life only with her.”
As soon as these words left his mouth, Chen Lingng clenched her fists in anger. She almost stood up from her wheelchair and shrieked.
“Pei Yansi, how can you do this to !”
