Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Sulfuric Acid
Shen Heyu was sowhat surprised to hear at the company that Liu ng had been fired, but she didn’t dwell on it too much since Pei Yansi never played by the rules anyway.
When she got off work in the evening, Shen Heyu received a call from Lu Yi saying that she would be returning from Yun City that night and wanted to have dinner with her and Lu Yunlan.
Shen Heyu didn’t decline; it seed like they hadn’t had a al together for a long ti. Upon hearing her agreent, Lu Yi said he would drive over to pick her up from the company.
So, Shen Heyu got off work on ti today and, upon reaching the roadside, imdiately spotted Lu Yi’s car parked there.
She hurriedly approached, opened the rear door, and saw Lu Yunlan already seated inside.
The mont Lu Yunlan saw Shen Heyu, she glued herself to her like an octopus, “I’ve missed you so much!”
...
“We just saw each other yesterday.” Shen Heyu pretended to be annoyed.
“A day apart feels like three autumns!”
“…”
Lu Yi, watching their interaction, couldn’t help but smile and started the car to head for the restaurant he had booked in advance.
At the dinner table, the three of them chatted and laughed. Lu Yi took great care of Shen Heyu, constantly serving her dishes and ordering many of her favorite foods.
Lu Yunlan, watching from the side, grew jealous and deliberately said, “Honestly, who’s your real sister?”
Shen Heyu smiled faintly, “Both of us are his sisters, so stop competing with . You monopolized brother’s attention for several decades before .”
Lu Yunlan was amused by her words.
As the two laughed and joked, they didn’t notice the trace of loneliness in Lu Yi’s eyes upon hearing the last remark.
The dinner ended quickly, and the trio headed to the restaurant’s parking lot to leave.
As night fell and the parking lot dimd, Shen Heyu asked Lu Yunlan to get into the car first and was about to follow when suddenly, a figure rushed out from the darkness, cursing, “Shen Heyu, you shaless thing, just go die!”
Shen Heyu turned around to see the person holding so sort of bottle, about to violently splash its contents her way.
Instinctively, Shen Heyu raised her hand to shield her face, knowing that her face was most important and it was too late to dodge.
Just as she lifted her hand, she felt a searing pain in her arm, and couldn’t help but cry out in pain. Looking up, she saw Liu ng holding a bottle of acid, glaring malevolently at her, “I used to think you wouldn’t stab soone in the back, turns out you’re just biding your ti for a big move!”
“How pathetic can you be? Can’t you compete fairly? You deserve it!”
Shen Heyu, berated and bewildered by her words, had no extra energy to ponder their aning; the pain in her arm was too intense, and she clenched her teeth hard.
At that mont, the Lu siblings quickly rushed out of the car, with Lu Yunlan forcefully pushing Liu ng away, shouting, “What are you doing? This is illegal, do you know that? You just wait!”
Liu ng didn’t recognize the two of them and just snorted disdainfully, unafraid, thinking they were just ordinary people, nothing like Pei Yansi from Beijing whom she wouldn’t dare to provoke.
She tossed the now empty acid bottle to the ground and brazenly turned to leave.
Lu Yi hurried to assist Shen Heyu, frowning, “This is serious, let’s go to the hospital first.”
He helped Shen Heyu into the passenger seat, with Lu Yunlan quickly getting into the back.
The car sped off rapidly, reaching the hospital in no ti.
The hospital provided a deep, special treatnt for wound care; throughout the process, Shen Heyu’s eyes reddened from pain, but she kept on enduring without shedding a tear.
After half an hour, the treatnt was finally complete. Lu Yi bandaged her wound with gauze before telling her, “You must make sure not to get it wet for the next few days. Even so, there’s a high chance that a scar will remain. You should be prepared for that.”
Having scars left on one’s body is sothing many find hard to accept.
Shen Heyu frowned slightly, looking at her arm wrapped in gauze, and gave a slight nod, her deanor appearing as if she didn’t care much about it.
Lu Yi, seeing this, knew she was intentionally holding back and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to connect you with a specialist to help heal your scar.”
Shen Heyu politely responded, “Thank you.”
Lu Yunlan chid in from the side, “Who was that person today? Why did they hold such a deep grudge against you to do sothing like this?”
“He was soone from the company who got fired today. We’ve always been at odds, but he’s never confronted so directly before. Perhaps sothing went wrong sowhere.”
Shen Heyu wasn’t foolish; no one would directly oppose each other in the workplace. Previously, Liu ng had only sched against her in the shadows. Today’s outright confrontation was a first.
She must have been provoked by sothing.
Lu Yunlan said, “You need to be more careful in the future. I will teach her a lesson for you.”
Shen Heyu shook her head, “No need.”
There was no point in just teaching Liu ng a lesson without addressing the person pulling the strings behind her—it would only lead to recurrent issues. Without Liu ng, there would just be soone else.
Lu Yi listened to all this in silence, able to see that Shen Heyu was not having an easy ti. He felt compassion for her, but he also felt helpless to do anything for her.
He was sowhat discouraged.
The hospital room fell into a silence when Shen Heyu’s phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Pei Yansi.
Upon answering, she imdiately heard Pei Yansi’s demanding voice, “Why haven’t you co back yet?”
“I’m on my way back now.”
Everyone in the hospital room heard this. Shen Heyu didn’t give the other party a chance to speak further and hung up first.
Lu Yi offered, “Shall I drive you back? Yun Lan has work early tomorrow, so she needs to leave sooner.”
Lu Yunlan actually had no work the next day, but understanding Lu Yi’s intentions, she said, “That’s right, I’ll head back first. Let my brother drive you.”
Shen Heyu didn’t refuse and nodded, following Lu Yi out.
Lu Yi drove her back to the Pei Family ancestral ho. Pei Yansi was standing by the second-floor window and happened to see him opening the car door for her.
He frowned, glanced at the ti, and wondered if her late return was because she had been with Lu Yi.
He turned and went downstairs, eting Shen Heyu just as she entered the door. His questioning words were still unspoken when his gaze first landed on her arm, swathed in gauze, and he asked, “What happened?”
“Just a minor injury.”
Shen Heyu wasn’t very keen to talk to him. A big reason for Liu ng’s aggression could well be Pei Yansi’s decision to fire her.
She walked past him upstairs, with Pei Yansi following behind her, saying, “What, now that your Doctor Lu has bandaged your wound, you don’t feel the need to show it off in front of ?”
