Chapter 385: Chapter 385 Miss
Wang Zhiqiang said, “The other party was a man, very tall. He wore a mask and a duckbill cap, so I couldn’t see his face, but I know his voice—it was a drake voice.”
Pei Yansi fell silent for a mont.
He wondered whether it was Chen Wenzhou or soone’s assistant who might have such a drake voice and be that tall.
But no matter what, it had to be a mber of the Chen family.
Pei Yansi asked, “Didn’t he leave any contact information for you?”
Wang Zhiqiang shook his head, “He was very secretive. At that ti, he just gave a check and told to get that thing done. If it wasn’t successful, soone would co to take the check back.”
“He didn’t tell anything else, let alone contact information. In fact, I still don’t know who he is.”
Pei Yansi took out his cellphone, spun it in his hand, and said to Wang Zhiqiang, “I am going to call a few people now. Listen carefully to see whose voice sounds similar.”
Wang Zhiqiang nodded, focusing intently on Pei Yansi’s cellphone.
Pei Yansi first called Chen Wenzhou.
The voice on the other end slowly spoke, “President Pei?”
Pei Yansi said, “I wanted to inquire about the wedding the Chen family is organizing.”
As he said this, he occasionally glanced at Wang Zhiqiang, signaling with his eyes.
Wang Zhiqiang listened carefully to the voice on the other end and then shook his head at Pei Yansi.
It wasn’t him.
Chen Wenzhou then said, “Since when has President Pei been concerned about the progress of a wedding? Among all of us, you’re the one who least wants the wedding to happen, right?”
Since it wasn’t him, Pei Yansi didn’t feel the need to waste more ti with him and replied indifferently, “Perhaps.”
He hung up the phone and touched his chin, pondering, who else could it be?
Wang Zhiqiang said, “His voice was too robust; it definitely wasn’t him.”
It was then that Zhao Jin interjected, “Both Chen Wenzhou and Miss Chen have plenty of people who would go to any length for them. Of course, they wouldn’t show up themselves for such matters. How about we go directly to et with the Chen family and take Wang Zhiqiang with us?”
“The mont anyone involved speaks, Wang Zhiqiang will be able to identify them.”
Pei Yansi considered for a mont and felt that this was the only approach for now.
He said to Zhao Jin, “Get Wang Zhiqiang ready.”
To take him along to et the Chens, he obviously couldn’t go looking as he did now.
Not only would the Chen family recognize him, but he also lacked the status to accompany Pei Yansi.
Zhao Jin nodded and led Wang Zhiqiang out first.
After they left, Pei Yansi contacted Chen Lingng.
Chen Lingng was very excited, for it was rare for Pei Yansi to reach out to her. She asked, “Yansi, do you want to see ?”
Pei Yansi heard her deliberately softened voice and frowned slightly. He didn’t like this affected tone; he preferred Shen Heyu’s direct and honest way—earnest and endearing.
He said, “I’m going to have dinner at the Chens’ tonight.”
Chen Lingng was pleasantly surprised, “Why?” She wanted to know, why did he suddenly decide to co and join her?
Pei Yansi replied coolly, “Would you rather I didn’t co?”
He certainly wouldn’t answer her question directly.
Instead, he’d use his own authority to compel and intimidate. She would certainly allow him to co.
Chen Lingng said, “That’s not what I an, I…”
She paused there, seemingly realizing that explaining herself was pointless. All she needed to do was to welco Pei Yansi’s arrival.
So, she laughed on the other end of the phone, “Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
Pei Yansi added, “Gather all your family mbers together. It’s a good opportunity to announce our business. I also want to declare to everyone about our marriage. I believe you’ve always wanted to do this.”
Chen Lingng nodded again and again.
She was being treated so attentively by Pei Yansi for the first ti and was overjoyed, too ecstatic to ponder whether there was any ulterior motive behind it.
She happily agreed.
Pei Yansi hung up the phone and looked at the darkening screen, as well as the family portrait of himself with Shen Heyu and their daughter on the desk. He sighed deeply.
He stretched out a hand and wearily pressed it against his forehead.
That evening, as it was getting dark, Zhao Jin had already prepared everything.
Pei Yansi got into the car and saw Wang Zhiqiang sitting in the passenger seat. He was dressed like a bodyguard, wearing a mask and white gloves, tall and broad in build, and he did seem to have the right look.
If one weren’t very familiar with him, they wouldn’t recognize him.
And the people from the Chen family who had approached him to do that job had only t him a few tis; they weren’t close enough to recognize him.
For sure, they wouldn’t recognize him.
Half an hour later, the three of them arrived at the Chen residence.
Since this was the first ti in his life Wang Zhiqiang was entering such a grand mansion, he felt sowhat uneasy.
With Zhao Jin constantly by his side, his discomfort was sowhat obscured.
At the dining room, the Chen family mbers had already arrived.
Chen Wenzhou and Chen Lingng sat to the side; upon seeing Pei Yansi, the latter imdiately moved her wheelchair closer, looked up at him with adoring eyes, and said, “You’ve finally co. I’ve been waiting for you for a long ti.”
Pei Yansi humd in response and gave her a brief glance—his gaze was detached, his expression impassive.
He took his seat, quickly scanning over those who had co.
There were Chen Wenzhou’s assistant, Chen Lingng’s assistant, and Grandpa Chen’s confidants.
After Pei Yansi surveyed them, Grandpa Chen, with his years of experience, sensed sothing amiss.
He asked Pei Yansi, “What are you looking at?”
Even when caught in the act, Pei Yansi was unruffled, calmly replying, “Just seeing how many people have co, to gauge the significance of my announcent.”
Chen Lingng said, “As long as you’re willing to announce it, we’ll bring everyone, no matter how many. I’m already so happy.”
Pei Yansi glanced at her and said nothing.
At the dinner table, Pei Yansi found ways to make everyone speak, ensuring they all said more than three sentences.
After more than an hour, the dinner finally ca to an end.
Pei Yansi left with Zhao Jin and Wang Zhiqiang. Outside, Chen Lingng and Chen Wenzhou ca to see them off.
Chen Wenzhou looked at Wang Zhiqiang, “Is he a new guy working for President Pei?”
He felt he looked familiar.
But he couldn’t recall where he’d seen him before.
Wang Zhiqiang was a bit nervous and lowered his head.
Pei Yansi said, “New bodyguard. He has a cold these days, so I had him wear a mask. Wouldn’t be good to pass it on to Ling ng.”
His ostensibly caring words made Chen Lingng beam with joy, too pleased to ponder further.
“You should take care as well.”
Pei Yansi nodded, got into the car.
Wang Zhiqiang followed, the car started, and Pei Yansi asked without delay, “Did you notice?”
Wang Zhiqiang nodded.
“It was that lady.”
