Seven Sins System Chapter 472. What Did I Expect?

Once I got out of the portal, I was back in my dorm, but my mind was still trapped in that playground.

I stood there like a statue, letting the portal close behind with a soft hiss. My gaze was fixed on the empty wall in front of , but my thoughts were elsewhere, tangled in the strange exchange I’d just had with Puriel.

I didn’t understand what I was feeling, and more than that, I didn’t want to understand. I felt relieved, of course, having given her the necklace.

I was certain it was enough to send her ho, to end her futile search and let her find so rest. But there was sothing more than that, sothing unspoken, sothing that felt heavier than the simple words we’d exchanged. More than a thank you.

But again, what did I expect? A kiss? To drag her into my arms and take her right there in the playground? Bang her? Or maybe a confession that said “Oh, Azrael. I love you so much. Kidnap . Take to the underworld.”

The thought almost made laugh.

Right… that sounded like the most wishful thinking I’d ever indulged in, more far-fetched than the idea of conquering the mortal realm against the agreents set by the angels. It was ridiculous, and yet, a part of couldn’t let it go, couldn’t stop imagining what it would be like if things were different.

“—Lord,” a woman's voice cut through my thoughts, pulling back to the present, startling with its suddenness. “My lord,” she called again, and I blinked, realizing that I was not alone in my room and that I had been standing there, lost in thought, for far too long.

I turned my head toward the voice, feeling a rush of embarrassnt at my lack of awareness. Red was already there, standing near , her expression one of concern. Her eyes were fixed on , searching for sothing in my face, sothing that might explain why I seed so distracted.

“Ah, Red,” I said, trying to shake off the lingering fog in my mind, trying to regain my composure. This wasn’t like . I was always in control, always aware of my surroundings, always ready for anything. And yet, here I was, caught off guard for the second ti today. It was… unsettling, to say the least.

“Why are you here?” I asked spontaneously, the words slipping out before I could think.

Red’s expression didn’t change, but I could see a flicker of confusion in her eyes. Tʜe source of this ᴄontent ɪs novel•fire

“I an, you are here,” I quickly corrected myself, realizing how foolish I must have sounded. I had expected her presence, had known she would co. This was planned, and yet my mind was so clouded that I couldn’t even manage a proper greeting.

“Are you okay? You seed… distracted,” she said cautiously, stepping closer to . Her voice was calm, asured, but there was an undercurrent of worry.

“Everything’s fine,” I lied, trying to sound convincing, but I could hear the hollowness in my own words. I wasn’t fine. I was anything but fine. The events had left shaken, confused in a way that I wasn’t prepared to admit, even to myself. “I just… had a lot on my mind,” I added, hoping it would be enough to satisfy her.

Red nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving mine. She could see through ; she always could. There was no hiding from her, no masking the truth. She had been with long enough to know when sothing was truly wrong.

“You’re lying,” she said, her voice calm but firm. “I can tell sothing is bothering you, my lord. Is it because of Puriel?”

I hesitated. It was always difficult to hide anything from Red.

“Kinda,” I admitted, my voice low, “but not in the way you think.” I said it quickly, wanting to dispel any assumptions she might have about and Puriel being at each other’s throats again. The last thing I needed was for Red to think I had just fought Puriel or that so altercation had led to my current state. It wasn’t that simple, and I wasn’t ready to explain the strange mix of emotions that had taken hold of .

Red’s gaze flicked down to my hand, her eyes narrowing as she noticed the wound. Without hesitation, she stepped closer and grabbed my wrist, her touch surprisingly gentle given the intensity of her expression. “My lord, your hand,” she said, her voice tight with worry. She lifted my hand closer to her face, examining the wound.

I could see the worry etched into her features. A rare crack in the stoic mask she usually wore. She had seen in battle, had seen erge unscathed from conflicts that would have destroyed lesser beings. I had never gotten a wound like this, not even during the brutal wars three hundred years ago. This was new for her, and I could see the unease in her eyes, the fear of the unknown.

“It’s fine,” I said, trying to sound reassuring. “I just made a bit of a mistake.”

But Red wasn’t buying it. Her eyes flicked back up to mine, a flash of anger crossing her features. “Is it because of her? That damn goddess?” she demanded, her voice sharp. There was a fierceness in her tone that surprised , a protective anger that I hadn’t expected.

“No,” I said firmly, eting her gaze. “It wasn’t her. It was my own mistake.” I didn’t want her blaming Puriel for this, and didn't want to feed into the idea that everything that went wrong between us was so deliberate act of malice. This wound was my doing, a consequence of my own choices.

Red’s grip tightened slightly around my wrist, her eyes narrowing as she searched my face for the truth. For a mont, I thought she might push further, demand more answers, but then she let out a sigh, her expression softening. “Let treat you,” she said, her tone gentler now, though still laced with concern.
