Just a few seconds after Li Changhe left the corridor, a crisp sound ca from the body of a nearby security guard who had fallen.
"Crack"
"Crack"
Then, like a puppet on strings, it climbed up in a strange pose.
His neck had been violently broken, and his head hung like a lantern. Li Changhe had glanced at him before, certain that he was very dead.
But at this mont, he leaned against the wall and took a few steps, reaching out to slowly twist his neck back.
"How unfortunate, Wildcat," his drooping head said in a low voice: "In this task, my greatest concern was you, the assassin. To avoid you, I made multiple preparations. Unfortunately, they were useless."
Wildcat did not respond; he was still pinned to the wall by an arrow, his face bearing the regret of his final monts.
Li Changhe had pierced his heart directly, killing him instantly without a trace of life - a quick and relatively painless death.
Corpse Puppet didn’t care, placing his hand on the arrow and gradually applying force.
While exerting force, Corpse Puppet spoke: "As a [Player], being controlled by an NPC is really pathetic... But don’t be sad, death is an inevitable path for all living beings. You and I, as [Players], must have long been aware of this. Let use your broken body to take revenge."
"Victory will ultimately belong to us."
Corpse Puppet pulled out the arrow, and Wildcat’s body slid down the wall, leaving a bloody trail.
What he didn’t know was that on the scattered flour on the floor nearby, a small footprint had quietly appeared.
...
The tallic liquid in the arrow lodged in Kneeling Warrior’s body began to surge.
He couldn’t wait much longer. His Contractor, Carn Jona, couldn’t be away from her life support device for too long.
This was a rare disease that even the dicine he brought couldn’t reverse, so from the beginning, he had asked Li Changhe if he could cure it.
When Corpse Puppet and the strange old man who had killed dozens of magicians appeared at the sa ti...
All defense asures had basically beco decorations.
The summoned Kneeling Warrior could only retreat with Carn Jona to the defensive barrier inside the laboratory.
This special barrier, made by Carn Heavy Industries to prevent magical experints from going wrong, was an incredibly strong material that even [Players] could not break through in a short amount of ti.
But watching Carn Jona’s breath grow weaker, Kneeling Warrior knew he couldn’t wait any longer.
"You must have received the ssage left by the previous champion. Do you still want to stop ?" Kneeling Warrior asked in a deep voice as he watched the magicians and security personnel outside the barrier die one by one: "Are you willing to join forces with the Caster Rank to take down?"
He knew that so [Players] had died or left the instance, but he didn’t know who had won. But from the ssages left by those champions, he could tell that the battles between [Players] could have been completely avoided.
"Stop talking, Cavalry. Now, I just want to try out my newfound strength. As for Norton...he just wants to acquire the body of whichever one of us falls. Since his main body isn’t here, there’s no point in taking action. Both of us ca here for sothing other than the task," Flamingo said with a laugh. "Co out and fight. Once your Contractor runs out of energy, you won’t have a chance. Of course, you can always use the [Escape Coin]."
"That’s a tough choice to make. I promised her I’d let her recover. I can’t go back on my word, I don’t want to go back on my word anymore."
Kneeling Warrior took a deep breath, ready for battle!
...
Elsewhere, Li Changhe’s body was covered in electric arcs as he moved quickly through the stairwell.
The situation was urgent as the fight downstairs intensified; Kneeling Warrior wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
His brain also worked fast, pondering the recently unlocked [Task Reward 5], Divine Gifted Grass, whose effects were currently unknown.
The unlocked [Champion ssages] had a wealth of information.
The Sixth Champion had evidently reached so kind of agreent with his opponent after realizing sothing was wrong. He also gained so benefits, which ant that the other party could be negotiated with.
Reading the ssages left by Champions seven and eight...
They probably found out about a certain existence too late—when they were in the stage of completing the task and about to leave the instance.
After fighting for so long and killing one opponent after another...
Neither ti nor their own exhaustion would allow them to face that opponent.
The Ninth Champion, a [Holder], had been surrounded and participated in the attack.
He must have discovered sothing wrong and gathered several [Players] together.
Unfortunately, an unknown change occurred.
Eventually, only he survived and beca the sole victor. He unleashed a full-strength strike just before being teleported out by the [Evolution Ga]. He failed to kill his opponent, but he did provide the information that his opponent was a divine creature.
Divine creatures...
Li Changhe wondered if the Demon God on the young girl’s body could be considered a divine creature.
Divinity...Authority...Divine Spirit Species?
Without much thought, he quickly pondered the following information.
The Tenth Champion failed to find the existence that started the Seven Kings War in the city.
This could explain why he had summoned the Flying Bull Cart to wander around the city aimlessly.
He was clearly prepared for this challenge, likely having received information from another champion. He probably brought many weapons and devices to deal with divine creatures.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t find his opponent.
The ssage from the Eleventh Champion, Chen Guang, was full of invective, which was rare.
Considering his character, it was usually others cursing him.
Combining this with his actions at the ti, he likely went straight to confront the mastermind behind the scenes and was counter-ambushed.
It was fitting; Chen Guang had sched against countless people, only to be outwitted in this instance. It was a humiliating defeat.
But he did provide information on how the mastermind could sense the [Players]’ specific goals through her mysterious ability.
It was from that point on that [Players] in the [Battle of the Seven Kings] began to have incomplete information.
Groups and individuals with task items kept silent about in-story events in order not to attract the sensing ability of the mastermind.
This also made the task more difficult.
Regardless of whether they discovered the mastermind’s divinity, the different timings of their entry and the limitations placed on their Contractors proved to be challenging enough.
Due to the lack of information, the Twelfth Champion returned to the situation of Champions Seven and Eight.
He found out too late, so he could only invest in technology at Carn Heavy Industries and leave so kind of backup plan.
"It’s clear that the mastermind has a talent for instigating conflict among [Players]", Yun Ting analyzed. "Each Seven Kings War has been going according to his plan. When [Players] discover sothing is wrong or becos aware of him, they’re usually in no condition to fight."
"Based on the information provided by Chen Guang, the mastermind should be ’The Monarch’. Since he can selectively manipulate Contractors, he can simply use their character traits to cause conflict."
Li Changhe thought: "However, now that our [Players] haven’t been ordered to commit suicide by their Contractors, it can be inferred that the mastermind’s choice of Contractors is also limited. After all, the [Evolution Ga] wouldn’t give out tasks that require certain death."
"He must have other ans," Li Changhe thought, as the electric arcs on his body surged and he rushed out of the stairwell.
At the sa ti, he saw two towering figures collide in the distance.
