"And then what’s standing in your way? Ever since that engagent, you’ve gotten soft. Don’t tell you’ve fallen for her?" Zach yelled back.

Soft? I’ve gotten soft?

His words montarily struck a chord inside of . Since I was still struggling to get my mories back, I didn’t have a clear perspective on his accusation. My mind traveled to the recent monts I’ve spent with Leslie.

Could I be hesitating to go through with my plans because of Leslie?

A new kind of fear appeared in my mind. It was sothing that I’ve actively suppressed since falling for Leslie, for the second ti.

There’s no way, right? I wouldn’t simply give up on avenging my Mother...

No! No, there’s no way. My actions on the night of the auction house even prove it. I went to investigate on my own.

A flurry of mixed emotions coursed through , but Zach was currently staring at , waiting for my reply. "No! Of course I haven’t! She’s a Moresi for fucks sake! There’s no way I would ever catch feelings for her!"

I would never fall for Morgan, not in a million years!

"It’s just... It’s complicated, Zach," I said after a deep breath. My words ca out sounding strained, matching my internal turmoil.

While I’d never fall for Morgan, Leslie was a totally different story.

Even the way I feel about her currently, without all of my mories, was enough to tell that she’s soone extrely special to . Just seeing her smile at another man drove crazy with jealousy.

Thinking about her brought a sense of peace. Outside of being beautiful, she was caring and considerate. I always felt like I could be myself around her, not worrying about putting up so sort of serious front.

Since getting back with her, my sleepless nights have been almost non-existent, which has helped significantly in all areas of my life.

She’s also brilliant and able to co up with unique solutions to difficult business-related issues. Because of her, Sophia had grown to an even larger standard.

I glanced up at Zach with red eyes. While my heart was still set on unearthing the dirty secrets behind the Moresi family, taking this detour for Leslie’s sake was just as important.

"Fine, I get it. I’m just trying to help you. I’ll continue to push the court to do sothing, just promise you won’t give up on this," said Zach, finally cooling off.

"Thanks, Zach. You’ve been a great help in all of this," I said, leaning over to tap his shoulder. My words were honest; I was sincerely grateful for all of his help and good intentions.

"Sure thing, man. I just want this to be behind you so that you can find happiness. Let know if there’s anything else you need to do," said Zach with a slight smile.

Find happiness...

My thoughts once again drifted to Leslie.

He’s right. I need to get this done and over with already so that I can focus on my relationship with Leslie.

I really wish I had my mories back already.

The second part of Zachary’s statent put another thought in my head. I instantly pictured the golden boy who claid to be Leslie’s friend. My jealousy couldn’t keep from ignoring him.

"Actually, I do have a small matter. I need your help investigate soone. His na is Lucas Christaphori," I said.

"Investigate? What sorts of things are you looking to know?" asked Zach, raising his eyebrow.

I took another puff of my cigarette and looked straight into his eyes. "Just the basics for now. His family background, what he does for work...who he hangs out with. Oh, and dating history."

"Dating history?" asked Zach. He looked like he wanted to ask more about it, but after seeing the seriousness in my expression, he decided not to.

"Fine, I’ll get on it. Let know if there’s anything else."

I nodded and stood up, putting out the last bit of my cigarette. Leslie should be arriving here shortly, and I wanted Zach to be gone by then.

-

After Zach left, I lay down on the bed and waited for Leslie to arrive. Excitent began to brew inside of , causing dirty thoughts to flood my mind once again.

I also thought more about how I was going to go about continuing the plan of finding the evidence of taking down the Moresi family.

I still need to tell Leslie about it. As soon as I find proof, I’m going to tell her.

The thought of telling Leslie about the dark dealings her family’s business had been a part of since its start worried . There were a million different ways she could respond, and most of them weren’t good.

I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. For now, I just need to focus on getting the evidence.

The first order of business would be making it back to the auction house to investigate once again.

Maybe being there could help jog my mories?

While I didn’t have high hopes of actually uncovering any evidence directly, if being there could help rember what it was that I encountered, then that would help out a lot.

I rolled over on the bed, looking at the ti on my phone. The event should be starting any minute, aning Leslie should make her appearance shortly.

I tried to push the rest of my thoughts out of my head while taking a deep breath. All of the emotions and troubling thoughts still spiraled through , making it difficult to concentrate. Sothing felt off, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.

Once Leslie arrives, everything will be okay.

She had the magical ability of calming down. I realized it the first ti we hooked up in my office. I was full of anxiety about my mory loss, but just by being near her, I felt calm and collected.

-

"It’s been ten minutes."

I placed my phone back on the bed beside after checking the ti once again. The event should have started ten minutes ago, but Leslie still hasn’t arrived.

Maybe there’s been so delay?

It was quite possible that she was busy and couldn’t slip away.

I should give her so more ti. She looked as excited as I was about eting up.

Her smiling face appeared in my mind, only to be ruined by the image of a golden-haired man.

No, no. Surely she’s not with him still. The event started, and he should be sitting in his designated seat, participating.

But after another twenty minutes, I started to feel anxious. I didn’t know if I should go downstairs to check on her or stay here.

What if she arrives as soon as I leave? I don’t want her to feel like I stood her up.
