Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Embarking on the Journey (5)
Carolline didn’t say much more, anyway, it was a matter for three months later, so they could talk about it then.
The Village Chief’s wife soon brought a thermos full of hot water and handed it to Carolline wrapped in a clean towel. This gesture was truly thoughtful.
Carolline accepted it with a chuckle and thanked her. Not wanting to disturb the couple’s rest, the Village Chief and his wife soon took their leave.
Gavin, his face flushed, looked at Carolline and said, “I didn’t bring much cash with , so I’ll pay you back for the living expenses later.”
“No need, we originally got money from the governnt for going to the Countryside, so we don’t need to pay extra for living expenses.” Carolline shook her head in refusal.
Actually, Gavin knew this too, and that was why he didn’t bring cash with him.
But with Carolline paying so much cash all at once and shouldering the burden alone, he couldn’t help but feel guilty.
“But you…” Gavin felt like he’d taken advantage of Carolline.
“The Village Chief’s family isn’t in great financial shape, so the living expenses are just an excuse to ease their minds about accepting the money. It’s also ant to make our stay here more comfortable. I really don’t want to go back to our original accommodation, as it definitely wouldn’t be as nice as this place.” Carolline said with a smile.
“I see.” At this mont, Gavin thought that Carolline, as Henry Ruiz’s daughter, was truly kind-hearted. No wonder Andy Aguirre liked her so much.
“Alright, let’s go back to our rooms and sleep. I’m tired.” Carolline yawned, soaked her feet in so hot water the aunt had given her, and went to bed. Her sleep was quite comfortable with the thermos keeping the blankets warm.

The next day, the two started to work.
Not far from the Village Chief’s house, a temporary tent had been set up by the villagers in just over a month. The Village Chief had two vans that were used for taking villagers with serious illnesses to the nearest Town Hospital.
Now the vans had another purpose, to transport the dical equipnt and dicines that Gavin needed back to the village.
For common ailnts, villagers would typically endure the pain if they could. For example, if soone’s foot was injured by a rusty nail, they would simply use homade white liquor to disinfect the wound and forget about it. But after a while, they might start limping and not realize why.
Only when they went to the Town Hospital for a checkup would they find out it was infected. Now they had a doctor in the village, and it was much more convenient for everyone. Gradually, the villagers began to take better care of themselves, asking Gavin and Carolline for help whenever they felt unwell.
Under Carolline’s influence, Gavin beca very patient with the villagers, never bothered by their dirtiness or sll, and the two worked together enthusiastically to help them.
They were able to treat minor illnesses and injuries, but for more serious cases, they would have soone from the village drive the patient away. If the patient’s condition was severe and the family couldn’t explain it clearly, Carolline would accompany them in the car, take care of the patient on the way, explain the situation, and then return to the village.
In this way, the villagers beca more and more health-conscious, even seeking Gavin’s advice for colds and fevers, and then going back ho to work worry-free.
Ti passed quickly, and a week went by.
The villagers were extrely grateful to Gavin and Carolline, often sending them fruits and vegetables from their gardens. Sotis when a family had an event and invited the Village Chief and his wife, Carolline and Gavin would also be invited as honored guests.
