Wei Wei’s forehead felt warm, his limbs weak, and his spirit low. He lay on the sofa, lazily thinking about when he last fell ill. It was at the orphanage, when Father An treated him.

After leaving the orphanage, he dared not fall sick because he had to care for his siblings, ensuring they ate and stayed safe. Though he failed in the end...In the training camp, he couldn’t afford to be sick either, as it would an failure and death. He never thought he would fall ill now that he was back in Scrap Iron City.Feeling a bit amused, Wei Wei shook his head, trying to clear the haze. He reached for his shoes but found them missing. Looking down, he saw they were neatly arranged by the door. The lunch box on the coffee table had been blown into the trash can, though it wasn’t quite in place. The ghostly lady was squatting beside the trash can, puffing out her cheeks to blow the box further in.As soon as she saw Wei Wei awake, she stood up straight, her expression serious.“So, it was her who moved my shoes so far away?”Wei Wei rubbed his forehead. Ghosts couldn’t touch physical objects unless he covered them with his crimson power. So, while he slept, she must have blown the shoes into place and the lunch box into the trash, even trying to push it further in.This dedication to cleaning was impressive. Could it be that her constant blowing had made him sick? With a sigh, Wei Wei got up, picked up the lunch box, and threw it into the trash. He then walked to the door and picked up his shoes. The room was even cleaner than before he slept. Even the half-shaven head hanging on the wall had its hair blown neatly into place.“Sigh…”Wei Wei sympathetically glanced at the head, put on his shoes, and prepared to leave. The ghostly lady floated to the door, blocking his way, her eyes fixed on the nearly overflowing trash can. Wei Wei sighed, picked up the trash bag, and only then did she step aside, her hands clasped together as if seeing off a guest.Initially, he considered putting her back into the bottle, but seeing how much she seed to enjoy being there, he decided against it. She wouldn’t leave even if he did, so there was no need to worry about her escaping. Having a ghost to watch the house wasn’t unusual, he thought vaguely.Dazed, Wei Wei went downstairs, threw away the trash, and drove towards the base. Along the way, he felt dizzy and weak, his brain foggy. At a traffic light, he felt a tightness in his chest and suddenly coughed.“Cough, cough!”Just then, a woman in the car beside him also started coughing, covering her mouth with tissues. On the other side, a man on a motorcycle coughed while pounding his chest.“Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough…”Suddenly, a wave of coughing erupted from pedestrians crossing the road. They all covered their mouths, coughing incessantly. The coughing spread like a tide, engulfing the crowd.Wei Wei snapped to attention, looking around. He saw faces lacking vitality, people on the sidewalk looking lethargic, a street vendor yawning lazily, and a traffic officer sneezing repeatedly. In front of a pharmacy, a long line ford for dicine. Soone stumbled into a lamppost, but no one laughed or clapped. The city, usually full of life despite being sowhat remote, was now shrouded in gloom.Wei Wei realized sothing and quickly picked up his phone. Before he could dial, a call from “Wind and Rude Old Goat” appeared on the screen.Wei Wei answered: “Hey, Captain…”“Little Wei, sothing’s happened,” Captain Ouyang said gravely. “We’ve discovered an unusual high fever spreading across the city. Through hospital data and analysis by epidemic experts, we can confirm that this fever is spreading abnormally.”“So…”Wei Wei suppressed a cough, slowly looking up at the chaotic city before him: “A Plague Demon?”Of course, it was a Plague Demon, and likely a high-ranking one. Only a high-ranking Plague Demon could release a disease that would cover an entire city in such a short ti.“Is there a cure?”Wei Wei remained calm, asking softly.“They’ve analyzed the samples, and there’s clear involvent of supernatural power,” Captain Ouyang said solemnly. “Now, Scrap Iron City is definitely facing a second-type danger threat.”First-type dangers were threats caused by demon worshippers, wild superhumans, or a small number of degenerated monsters. Second-type dangers involved widespread disasters that could cause uncountable losses. The most severe events were third-type dangers, related to “demons” or “gods.”Even with his foggy head, Wei Wei instinctively asked: “Captain, I’m heading to the team now.”“No,” Captain Ouyang said abruptly. “Go back and pack your things. We et at the West Mine Airport in an hour.”“What?”Wei Wei was taken aback.“Little Wei, we’ve just received word from above,” Captain Ouyang explained, taking a deep breath. “They agree to our ergency evacuation.”Wei Wei finally understood. Facing a second-type danger, superhuman peacekeepers had the right to ergency avoidance. Their duty was to report and assess the threat, then let others handle it. They didn’t have to stay on site, as it was beyond their capabilities. Staying could even make them a target for unknown threats, increasing the enemy’s power. The Foundation never encouraged sacrifice or fighting spirit.“What about things here?”Wei Wei asked instinctively.“They say they’ve activated ergency asures, and soone will co to handle it soon,” Captain Ouyang replied. “You know from training camp how terrifying Plague Demons are. Once their power spreads, the entire city will beco a demon’s playground. Even superhumans can’t resist this disease. And this Plague Demon attack might just be the prelude...”“I suspect there’s soone even more terrifying hiding behind the scenes…”Captain Ouyang sighed deeply: “But that’s not our concern anymore. We’re evacuating.”His voice was cautious: “You promised you’d follow my orders, right?”“Yes, Captain,” Wei Wei replied. After hanging up, Wei Wei turned his car around, using the tactic of running a red light to provoke a chorus of curses as he sped back ho. Along the way, he saw more and more people looking ill, so vomiting by the roadside or squatting down, unable to get up.Perhaps due to his dizziness, Wei Wei looked up at the distorted sunlight and seed to see a demon smiling down at the city.“Crash…”Wei Wei drove his car into the building’s parking area, misjudging the distance due to his weakened state and crashing into the wall.He took a deep breath and rushed upstairs. The ghostly noblewoman was sitting elegantly at a table covered with a white tablecloth, like a hostess. Wei Wei ignored her, turning to the half-shaven head hanging on the wall.“Can you find the source of this disease?”The head seed to be asleep but shook slightly, as if saying no.“Cannot,” it said in a low voice. “This is a unique feature of Plague Demons. Once the disease spreads, everyone becos a source. You can only find it by locating the superhuman who spread the plague or related items from the demon’s forbidden artifacts. Only by forcing it to retract its power can you resolve this.”Wei Wei took a deep breath, closing his eyes due to dizziness.“So, I really should leave?”The head opened its eyes, looking at Wei Wei seriously: “How much power do you have left?”Wei Wei took another deep breath, his eyes clouding over with a layer of blood.“70%,” he whispered.“If you stay, your power will dwindle until you beco an ordinary person,” the head said gravely. “This is the terror of Plague Demons. Superhumans with demon powers are still human, and their bodies will be corrupted by disease. Even if you’re a Life Demon, the disease will consu your life force and grow stronger through it.”“This is why Plague Demons are considered the most dangerous and difficult to defend against.”“You really should leave,” the head said firmly. “And don’t forget to take with you!”
