After being promoted to Hokage’s assistant, Yan’s workload increased a lot.

To be precise, Tsunade shifted so of the important matters over to him to handle.

Especially anything related to outside the village. Tsunade didn’t want to touch those things at all now.

She only wanted to focus on fixing the problems inside the village, hoping to fill the hole left by the Third Hokage as soon as possible, and get Konohagakure back on the path to stable growth.

Before taking the position as the Hokage’s assistant, Yan never imagined there would be so much work.

Tsunade even cleared out an office for him in the Hokage building, making it easier for him to handle official duties.

*Knock knock knock!*

"Co in," Yan called out without even lifting his head, still focused on the docunts in front of him.

The door opened, and Shizune walked in with a cup of coffee.

Ever since moving into the Hokage building, Yan had developed a liking for this energizing drink. Tea just didn’t seem to do the trick anymore.

Shizune placed the coffee on the desk and handed him another docunt.

"Thanks."

But as soon as he said that, the smile on Yan’s face froze. He rubbed his temples in frustration and asked,

"Why is Tsunade sending every docunt to ? I’m just the Hokage’s assistant, not the Hokage!"

"This one’s from the Land of Grass. Hokage-sama thought it would be better for you to handle it. Right now, you deal with external matters, and she handles internal ones."

Shizune joked playfully.

Yan couldn’t help but roll his eyes. External and internal? They sounded like a married couple.

Taking a sip of his coffee, Yan opened the docunt.

"What does the Land of Grass want now? Don’t tell they’re trying to form an alliance with the village again."

Honestly, the Land of Grass really lived up to its na. Both the country and its ninja village were incredibly frustrating.

They were the perfect example of being fickle.

Constantly swaying between Konohagakure and Iwagakure.

During the war, Kusagakure happily played the lapdog for Iwagakure, acting as guides in their attack on Konohagakure.

But once the war ended and Iwagakure had nothing left to offer, Kusagakure imdiately switched sides, bowing and scraping to Konohagakure, trying to make peace.

What was even more ridiculous was that after being backstabbed by Kusagakure multiple tis, the Third Hokage always welcod their attempts to make ands.

And the reason? To show Konohagakure’s goodwill.

Show goodwill, my foot!!!

Not wiping out that village was already a favor, and yet we still accept their so-called goodwill?

The most laughable part was that while Kusagakure publicly tried to cozy up to Konohagakure, behind the scenes, they were constantly working against them.

Leaking Konohagakure’s intel for profit, researching their Ninjutsu, undercutting prices to steal their commissions—there was nothing Kusagakure wouldn’t do.

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Shizune thought for a mont and added,

"The envoy from the Land of Grass is still in the village. Hokage-sama said you should handle the arrangents."

"Then just tell them to get lost! Konohagakure doesn’t need these fickle types who betray their own allies."

Allies, my foot!

When there’s sothing to gain, they’re allies. When there’s nothing, you’re worthless, and you’re lucky they don’t stab you in the back.

Kusagakure is like that, and Sunagakure is no different. Yan had no fondness for any of these so-called allies.

"Huh? You’re not going to et them?"

Shizune was startled.

"They say the envoy from the Land of Grass is really sincere this ti. They even made a special detour from the Daimyo’s palace."

"They sure know how to work the system."

Without this little trick, Konohagakure wouldn’t have given them any attention. But since they made a stop at the Daimyo’s palace first, currying favor with him before coming here...

Out of respect for the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, Konohagakure couldn’t just turn them away. Like it or not, a eting had to happen.

"Fine, let them wait in the eting room. I’ll be there soon."

Ever since Tsunade beca Hokage, she had managed to get a few grants from the Daimyo, easing the village’s financial strain.

For no other reason than that, the envoy from the Land of Grass deserved at least a short eting.

But as for any talk of alliances or cooperation, Yan had no plans to entertain those.

"I’ll take care of it," Shizune said as she hurried out in her heels.

Watching the door close, Yan couldn’t help but wonder:

Is she the Hokage’s secretary, or my secretary?

She’s got the Hokage secretary title, but she’s always running over here.

anwhile, in the Hokage’s office, Tsunade, who had been about to grab a drink of water, looked around and sighed in frustration.

"That girl Shizune, she’s gone to Yan’s office again, hasn’t she? Whose secretary is she, really?"

When she gets back, I’m going to have a serious talk with her.

Otherwise, she’ll end up counting money for the person who sold her out.

After muttering a few complaints, Tsunade went back to her calculations. But the more she calculated, the more worried and frustrated she beca.

"Ugh, this is so annoying!!!"

Scratching her head in defeat, Tsunade slumped over her desk, feeling the urge to scream.

"I’ve already filled in so much, but the hole’s still so huge! What on earth was that old man doing?!"

Since she took over this ss, she hadn’t had a single good day. Every day, she was drowning in problems, constantly trying to scrape together money to fill the gaps. But no matter what, the hole just wouldn’t get any smaller.

anwhile, the envoy from Kusagakure, after getting Shizune’s ssage, imdiately led his people to the eting room in the Hokage building.

"Sir."

As Yan walked into the eting room, everyone quickly stood up to bow.

Shizune obediently stood behind Yan as his secretary, taking notes for him.

"Let’s skip the formalities. You all are from the Land of Grass, not from the village."

I appreciate the kind gesture, but please keep your rituals to yourselves; they don’t work on .

Ignoring the uncomfortable smiles on the Kusagakure envoy’s faces, Yan took a seat at the head of the table and asked directly,

"The Land of Grass took a long detour to visit Konohagakure, charming the Daimyo before coming here. What do you want?"

"Hehe, Sir, you’re joking. Visiting the Daimyo first is the proper etiquette; there’s no other aning behind it."

Noticing Yan’s dissatisfaction, the envoy from the Land of Grass smiled nervously and explained.

"Enough with the pleasantries. Just tell your purpose. I’m busy and don’t have ti for small talk."

Yan made it clear he didn’t trust or like Kusagakure.

He was not like the Third Hokage, who enjoyed saving face and hearing nice things.

Nice words depend on who’s saying them, and when it cos to a white-eyed wolf you can’t raise, it’s better to skip them.

Yan didn’t want to do anything distasteful.

Hearing this, the envoy from Kusagakure quickly stood up and took out a docunt:

"Sir, I bring sincere greetings from the Daimyo and Kusagakure. We hope to establish cooperation and form an alliance with Konohagakure. This would benefit both villages..."

"Benefit you, Kusagakure, but where’s the benefit for Konohagakure? I don’t see it."

Yan interrupted sharply, criticizing without hesitation:

"Don’t say those nice words in front of ; I don’t like them.

All I know is that an alliance between Kusagakure and Konohagakure only profits Kusagakure, while Konohagakure ends up at a loss.

That’s not all; Kusagakure has been using Konohagakure’s support to undermine it and harm its interests.

I rember all of that very clearly."
