Before diving headfirst into the newly announced "Power Core Scramble," Ryan decided to check the loot box he’d gotten from the last Temporal Hound.

A "Minor Temporal Cache." It sounded promising. He tapped the shimring, ornate box, and it dissolved into light, leaving behind a new piece of gear in his hands.

They were a pair of sleek, dark grey boots that seed to absorb the light around them. They felt incredibly light, almost weightless. The god Interface gave him the details.

[Boots of Alacrity (Tier 3)]

Description: Advanced Precursor footwear designed for rapid movent and enhanced reaction ti.

Grants: 20 Agility

Movent Speed: 25%

Skill: "Accelerated Reflex" - Grants a brief, massive burst of speed and reaction ti imdiately after successfully dodging an attack. (Cooldown: 30 seconds)

Ryan’s eyes widened. "Plus twenty Agility? And a speed boost? Hello, gorgeous." He quickly unlaced his worn-out, basic footwraps, which were little more than tough pieces of cloth at this point, and slipped on the new boots.

They molded to his feet perfectly, as if they were made for him. He took a few test steps and felt an imdiate difference. He felt lighter, springier, like he could run a marathon and barely break a sweat.

The "Accelerated Reflex" skill sounded perfect for his fighting style, rewarding him for not getting hit.

He did a quick ntal inventory of his current gear. He was starting to look like a proper, high-tech adventurer, not just so guy who fell out of a pod.

He had the Weaver’s Interface Gauntlet on one hand, the Cloak of Shifting Umbra on his back, the new Boots of Alacrity on his feet, and a Neural Symbiote Map wired into his brain.

In his pouch, he had a Depleted Precursor Power Cell that he still hadn’t figured out what to do with, an Energy Cell Modulator, and his brand-new, very shiny Resonant Chronoter Key. He was ard, armored, and ready to go.

Just then, the god Warden made another announcent, its voice echoing in the minds of every mber of both Outposts.

"The ’Power Core Scramble’ will comnce in ten minutes. A rged CommNet channel for Genesis Outpost #7 and Genesis Outpost #3 has been temporarily created. Use this ti to prepare."

The CommNet exploded into life, a chaotic mix of ssages from the Blue Falcons and the Circuit Breakers.

Over on the Circuit Breakers’ side of the chat, Ryan could see their leader, Zara Khan, wasn’t wasting a single second. Her orders were sharp, efficient, and broadcast for all her mbers to see.

[Zara "Technomage" Khan | Outpost #3 | Circuit Breakers]: "All Circuit Breaker units, listen up! The Scramble is for 500 Power Cores. I have uploaded Labyrinth sector maps to all of you.

Squads Alpha and Beta, you are assigned to Sector-D7, the ’Automaton Graveyard.’ Intel suggests a high concentration of deactivated Precursor automata. Reactivate and scrap them for their cores.

Squads Gamma and Delta, you are heading to Sector-G4, the ’Sentinel Production Line.’ Expect heavy resistance from dormant security systems, but the drop rate for cores should be high. My second-in-command, Marcus ’Gearhead’ Cole, will coordinate."

A new voice, presumably Marcus, chid in.

[Marcus "Gearhead" Cole | Outpost #3 | Circuit Breakers]: "You heard the boss! Move out! We know this tech better than anyone. Let’s show these ’Falcons’ how it’s done. We’ll have this Scramble won before they figure out which end of a Power Core is up!"

The Circuit Breaker players responded with confident cheers and "Roger that!" ssages. They were organized, they had a plan, and they were arrogant.

They clearly believed their technical knowledge gave them a massive advantage in a place like the Labyrinth. They were probably right, in a normal situation.

anwhile, on the Blue Falcons’ side of the channel, things were a bit more... spirited. And by spirited, Ryan ant a lot more panicked.

"They have maps?! And squad assignnts?!"

"Automaton Graveyard? Sentinel Production Line? How do they know all this stuff?"

"We’re dood! They’re specialists! We’re just a bunch of randoms who are good at not dying!"

"Ace Striker here. I told you all this was a bad idea. We should have surrendered. Now we’re going to lose all our resources."

Scarlett, Emma, and Jennifer quickly tried to rally the troops.

[Scarlett "Red" Viper | Outpost #7 | Blue Falcons]: "Everyone calm down! Panic is a losing strategy. We beat the Crimson Banner, we can handle these tech-heads."

[Jennifer "Quake" Lee | Outpost #7 | Blue Falcons]: "Yeah! We’ve got grit! And we’ve got Ryan!"

[Emma "Sage" Thorne | Outpost #7 | Blue Falcons]: "Let’s focus. We may not have their specific maps, but we can adapt. Everyone, form up into your usual hunting parties and start sweeping the outer Labyrinth zones. Every core counts!"

The Blue Falcons, strengthened by their leaders’ confidence, started to coordinate. Their anxiety turned into a sort of stubborn determination. They might not be fancy, but they were survivors.

Ryan decided it was ti for him to say sothing. A little bit of hope could go a long way. He typed a ssage into the Blue Falcons’ channel.

[Ryan Stone | Outpost #7 | Blue Falcons]: "Everyone, listen to Emma and Scarlett. Stick together, be smart. I have a plan for a high-yield area.

While you’re out there, keep your eyes open. If you find any rooms with strange ’Temporal Anomalies’ or places that cause an ’Echo,’ mark them on your maps and send the location to . I will trade very, very well for that information.

Now let’s go get so Power Cores."

His ssage had an imdiate effect. The fact that their top player, the guy who had won the last challenge almost by himself, had "a plan" was all the reassurance they needed.

"Ryan has a plan! We’re saved!"

"Echo Chambers? Temporal Anomalies? I have no idea what those are, but I’ll look for them!"

"Let’s do this, Blue Falcons! For the Outpost! And for fair trades from Ryan!"

Ryan smiled. It was good to see their fighting spirit return. Scarlett, Jennifer, and Emma started leading their respective teams into the Labyrinth’s twisting corridors, ready to hunt for whatever automata they could find. They were the main force, the ones who would collect cores through sheer hard work.

Ryan, on the other hand, had a different idea. A much sneakier, much more efficient idea.

The ten-minute preparation countdown ticked down to zero on his interface.

"The Power Core Scramble has now begun!"

The Circuit Breakers instantly started reporting their progress, their squads moving like well-oiled machines toward their designated zones.

Ryan didn’t move. He didn’t run off to hunt down random robots. Instead, he turned his back on the Labyrinth’s main corridors. He walked calmly back to the giant, shimring, ti-locked door at the end of the chamber.

He pulled out the Resonant Chronoter Key. It pulsed with a soft, steady blue light, its rhythm a perfect match for the humming of the Chronal Barrier.

"The Circuit Breakers think this is a race," Ryan said quietly to the ancient, silent door. "But they’re running on the wrong track."

He lifted the key, its crystalline head gleaming in the dim light. "They can have their scrapyard. I’m going to the treasury."

He reached out and gently inserted the key into an invisible lock in the center of the shimring Chronal Barrier. The mont the key touched the barrier, the entire chamber humd with a deep, resonant tone.

The shimring energy field ford a glowing pattern of gears and circuits. The key turned by itself, and with a few loud, satisfying clicks, the ancient ti locks opened.

The Chronal Barrier dissolved into a shower of harmless blue sparks. The massive, sealed stone door before him groaned, and with the sound of grinding stone that hadn’t been heard in millennia, it began to slide open.

A wave of cold, pristine, untouched air washed over him. Inside the newly opened vault, the air was still and silent. And in the darkness, dozens of small, steady lights began to glow.

Ryan stepped inside, a grin spreading across his face. He had a ten-minute head start, and he had just opened the door to a Precursor treasure chest.

The Scramble was on.
