"RĪZTILĀ NOVĀ !" (Burn them all!) Ryka shouted.

A low, subterranean rumble vibrated through Rhegalyion’s chest before the first spark ever touched the air. When the torrent finally broke free. It ca fast—a violent, expanding cone of orange that tore through the formation like a torch through a spiderweb. One mont, the air was a chaotic blur of screeching bats; the next, it was a rain of soot and falling cinders. The heat hit like a physical blow, carrying with it the sickening, sweet-and-charred aroma of burning hair that signaled the swarm’s total collapse.

But against the horde, it was rely a scratch.

For every bat that fell, ten more took its place. The swarm adapted instantly, spreading out to avoid the worst of the flas. They ca at Rhegalyion from all sides, latching onto its wings, its neck, its legs.

The wyvern thrashed, trying to shake them off, but they clung tight. Their teeth sank into its scales, drawing blood.

"Rhegalyion!" Ryka shouted.

Beside her, Svenja moved.

Her black orb shot forward, expanding into a wide disc. It spun like a violent disk as it tore through multiple bats like wet sheets for paper.

Yet, the swarm kept coming.

"There’s too many!" Ryka shouted over the chaos.

Svenja didn’t respond. Her pale eyes were locked on the swarm, analyzing their movents. Her orb moved faster now, shifting between shapes—discs, blades, shields in monts, adapting to the fend of the bats in their numbers, while she tried to find sothing that could give them a proper advantage.

The swarm was relentless.

They ca in waves, perfectly coordinated in their assaults. Whenever Svenja’s black orb pulled in a cluster, the rest of the swarm adjusted, dispersing around it intelligently. Soon, the swarm began to split and reform round about her orbs.

Voom, Voom, Boom.

Rhegalyion beat it’s large wings violently, sending the latching bats spiralling back wards.

Ryka mounted Rhegalyion, gripping the wyvern’s scales tightly. UZRĀDĪS! ("Ascend!")

Rhegalyion beat its wings hard, lifting off the ground. Bats clung to its body, weighing it down, but the wyvern powered through. It climbed higher, breaking through the worst of the swarm.

For a mont, Ryka could breathe.

She looked down and saw Svenja still on the ground, surrounded. Her orbs moved in perfect synchronization, creating a defensive sphere around her. Bats slamd into the barrier and disintegrated, but more kept coming.

Ryka’s mind raced.

They couldn’t win like this. The swarm was too coordinated. Too endless. Every ti they killed a section, the rest adapted. It was like fighting a single organism with a thousand bodies.

And then she saw it.

High up in the canopy, perched on a thick branch, the queen watched. Her red eyes glowed brightly, and her wings beat slowly, rhythmically.

The horde moved in sync with her wings.

"That’s it," Ryka muttered.

She leaned forward, shouting down to Svenja. "The queen! She’s controlling them!"

Svenja’s head tilted upward slightly. She’d already figured it out.

Ryka pulled Rhegalyion into a tight circle, bringing them back down toward Svenja. And with their descent ca a wave of flas that cleared that bat horde around Svenja. The rest dispersed montarily.

"I’ve got a plan!" Ryka shouted.

Svenja’s orbs retracted, pulling back into close orbit around her as Ryka landed nearby.

"I’ll take Rhegalyion and draw them off," Ryka said quickly. "Get their attention. While you go for the queen, and try to get one clean shot."

Svenja stared at her for a long mont.

Then she nodded.

"Alright." Ryka gripped Rhegalyion’s scales tighter.

"HĒRĀS HA, IĒN!" (Let’s go, now!)

---

RRRHHAAAAAAA

Rhegalyion launched into the air with a roar that echoed through the clearing.

Ryka leaned low against the wyvern’s neck, feeling the powerful beat of its wings beneath her.

The wyvern climbed fast, breaking through the lower swarm and launching a direct ball of fla to the queen, before bursting out into the open air above the canopy. Sunlight hit them for the first ti in what felt like hours.

And the horde followed.

They poured out of the trees like smoke, thousands of beating wings creating a sound like distant thunder. The swarm rose in a massive column, chasing Rhegalyion with single-minded focus.

Ryka risked a glance back. The entire swarm was airborne now, following them.

Good.

"ZŌVERĪS RHEGALYION!" (Fly Rhegalyion") she shouted.

"DŌRĪTZ PĒRZĀ!" (Keep them going!)

Rhegalyion banked hard, wings tucking close as it dove back toward the forest. The swarm adjusted instantly, following in perfect formation.

Ryka could feel her heart pounding in her chest. This was risky. If Rhegalyion got overwheld, and they got dragged down into the swarm...

She shook the thought away. Trust Svenja. Trust the plan.

Rhegalyion roared again, releasing another burst of fla behind them. The fire didn’t kill many, but it slowed them down, buying them a few precious seconds.

They circled wide around the clearing, keeping the swarm’s attention locked on them.

And below, hidden in the shadows of the forest, Svenja moved.

---

Svenja didn’t run.

She moved with purpose, each step calculated and silent. Her orbs floated beside her, barely visible in the dim light.

The queen was still perched on her branch. Through her shared vision with her minions, she observed Ryka and Rhegalyion’s aerial dance with what looked like amusent. Her wings beat slowly, altering the rhythm with each new command.

Svenja approached from below, using the thick tree trunks as cover. Her pale eyes locked onto her target.

Distance: forty-three feet. Elevation: twenty-two feet. Wind speed: negligible. Obstructions: two branches, minor.

She stopped.

Her black orb drifted forward, reshaping mid-flight. It compressed into a dense sphere no larger than a marble, its gravitational pull so intense it distorted the air around it.

Svenja raised one hand.

The queen’s head turned slightly, as if sensing sothing.

But it was too late.

Svenja’s hand dropped.

The Black orb shot forward like the bullet of a sniper’s riffle, crossing the distance in a fraction of a second. It punched straight through the queen’s chest, the impact so precise it didn’t even slow down. The compressed orb erged from the other side, carrying a spray of dark blood.

The queen’s eyes went wide. Her mouth opened, but no sound ca out.

The black orb returned imdiately, more expanded this ti, it slamd straight into the queen’s body and detonated with crushing force. The gravitational implosion lasted less than a second, but when it faded, there was nothing left.

The branch was empty.

---

The swarm froze mid-flight.

Every single bat stopped moving at the exact sa mont, as their wings went still. For a heartbeat, they just hung there in the air, suspended by montum alone.

Then they fell.

Thousands of bodies dropped from the sky like rain, hitting the forest floor with soft thumps. As they dropped, they didn’t move an inch.

Ryka pulled Rhegalyion into a hovering position, staring down at the carnage in disbelief. "Holy shit."

The clearing below was completely silent.

She descended, guiding Rhegalyion down slowly, and landing near where Svenja stood. The ground was covered in bat corpses now, layered so thick in places you couldn’t see the dirt beneath.

Svenja stood in the center of it all, her orbs floating calmly beside her. Her expression hadn’t changed.

Ryka dismounted, as her feet touched the ground, they quivered a bit. "That was... that was incredible."

Svenja said nothing. She just turned and started walking toward the far side of the clearing, stepping carefully over the bodies.

Ryka followed, recalling Rhegalyion as she went. The wyvern dissolved back into her seal, and she felt the weight of exhaustion settle over her imdiately.

They’d won.

---

They stopped just outside the clearing, far enough away that the sll of death wasn’t overwhelming.

Ryka leaned against a tree, catching her breath. She had scratches on her arms from where bats had gotten too close, and her shoulder ached from gripping Rhegalyion’s scales so tightly.

Svenja stood a few feet away, perfectly still. Her orbs hovered beside her.

Then the white orb drifted toward Ryka.

Ryka tensed slightly. "What—"

The orb stopped in front of her, then pulsed with a soft, warm light. The scratches on her arms began to close, the pain in her shoulder fading to nothing. It felt like warmth spreading through her body, the feeling gentle and soothing.

When the light faded, the injuries were gone.

Ryka stared at the orb, then at Svenja. "You... you can heal with that?"

Svenja nodded once.

"I didn’t know that."

Svenja’s lips twitched—the faintest hint of a smile. She gestured at herself, and the white orb drifted back, healing the few minor cuts and bruises she’d sustained.

For a mont, neither of them spoke.

Then Ryka let out an exhausted but genuine laugh. "We make a pretty good team, huh?"

Svenja’s pale eyes t hers. And for the first ti, Ryka saw sothing there. Not emotions, exactly. But recognition.

Svenja gave a small nod.

Yeah. They did.

Ryka pushed off the tree, rolling her shoulders. "Co on. Let’s keep moving. We’ve still got a tower to reach."

Svenja fell into step beside her, and they continued down the path.
